Hamlet (Kenneth Branagh) BD Digibook -- August 17

No date yet, but an Amazon pre-order has shown up. Update: now scheduled for August 17

Extras will include audio commentary with Kenneth Branagh and Russell Jackson, an introduction by Branagh, the To Be on Camera: A History with Hamlet documentary, a 1996 vintage Cannes Film Festival promo and the film's theatrical trailer. (This appears to be everything from the DVD.)

Holy shit. Nice. So for upcoming digibooks we now have Doctor Zhivago, A Star Is Born, and now this.

Does Sony have any more planned for the near future?

Uh.....this is from WB. Sony as far as I know don't do digibooks. Those films are from WB.

No, Sony does them as well:
  • Dr. Strangelove
  • Silverado
  • Midnight Express
  • Easy Rider
  • A River Runs Through It

It's about time. We were supposed to get this in 2007 alongside the DVD.

I keep hearing about this 2 1/2 hour version, but I've never heard from anyone who's actually seen it.

My understanding is that the shorter version was planned but, after the 4-hour version was successful, these plans were scrapped.

Did anyone ever actually see the 2.5-hour Hamlet theaterically?

It looks like the short cut was only released internationally, after backlash in the U.S.

I have indeed seen both versions of the movie in theatres.
the the 4 hour version here in L.A. and the 2.5 hour version at the tampa theatre
when i was vistiing back home.
while for obvious reasons the entire 4 hour version is preferd, it would be nice to have the 2.5 hour version as well, they did a pretty good job with editing it down to a shorter running time

Aaaaah, this is good news.

A favorite of mine, and one which is just made for HD...not to mention, I am a sucker for digibooks!

I really wish they'd do a side-by-side in a regular case, too. Not a fan of the digibook packaging.

Finally. I don't like digibooks at all but, much like I did for Silverado, I'll gladly purchase this without hesitation.
