Arthur '81 remake coming! Remember Arthur? Sounds awful!

Sorry, didn't know this was a double thread!

Just found out the news today...

You can delete! Tried to find an option to do it myself, but don't see one.

----------------------------------------------------

Here we go again....

I'd give Arthur 1981 an 8/10, so this remake doesn't sound very appealing. Plus, Dudley Moore is dead. Let's let his character rest in piece. No need to dig him up!

----------------------------------------------------------

When the news came around that Russell Brand would be filling the shoes once worn by Dudley Moore in the ARTHUR remake, most of you were appalled. Mainly by the fact that you had to see Brand in another movie.

While the guy isn't exactly too funny when doing his stand-up or hosting the VMA's for MTV (which never plays any videos, so the idea of a music awards show is now pointless), he was funny in FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL. At least in my own opinion.

Back to the news at hand, THR is reporting that Jason Winer, who I know better as an actor (VAN WILDER) than a director, will be helming the remake. Currently, Winer is directing the ABC series, MODERN FAMILY. So does this increase the chances that you'll want to see this? Probably not, unless you're a fan of FAMILY. I've actually heard it's a pretty decent comedy.

I'm sure I'll give it a watch to see what spin Brand puts on the iconic character. While it might seem easy to play the role of a rich, alcoholic playboy, Moore displayed class as well as charm. I can only hope that we'll get a new song from Christopher Cross.

Source: THR

Extra Tidbit: Who's going to play Linda Marolla in the remake? Liza Minnelli originally played the character in '81.

Probably because it's old news. Wasn't he talking about this back when he first hosted the MTV awards?

I will simply say that it is hard to imagine this remake being good.

If this helps make Russell Brand go away any faster, I'm all for it.

As a fan of the original I don't like it already.

I agree that today this movie has zero brand recognition, its rarely shown on cable so I have no idea where this would have gained an audience today.

Its a horrible idea.

I've never heard of Russell Brand, so I googled him and ... okay, I can understand wanting to remake Arthur. It's a terrible idea, but I can totally understand how an egomaniacal asshat would want to do it. But Drop Dead Fred? What are you people, on dope?

I don't even know who Brand is but the idea that he or anyone could even attempt to portray the character of Arthur as well as Moore did is laughable.

Who are they going to cast as Hobson? Gielgud shines here as well.

No actor/s today could recapture the essence of this film.

I'd never even heard of Russell Brand until I saw the VMA's. I wish I still had never heard of him.
