Re: Leave it to Beaver

I've taken the liberty to pre-order this gem of a series. ANOTHER Classic TV Series has been freed from the tyranny of the TV Networks who insist on hacking and slashing this show so they can stuff the time slot with Commercials for products I do not wish to purchase!

Here's hoping that Shout Factory pick-up other tv series that the studio's have disregarded. Green Acres would be at the top of my list plus All In the Family and One Day At A Time.

Bought Seasons 1 & 2 the days they came out. Been waiting for the rest for years. Very happy.

Haven't paid more than $15 each for the first two. I'll wait for the inevitable price drops on the remaining season.

That seems strange. I assumed Seasons 3 and onward had been released since I added them to my Netflix instant queue last year. I believe the entire series run with the exception of a few individual eps. per season are available.

Currently have my Netflix on hold so this may have changed since December.

The remaining seasons that aren't out yet have been available for streaming on Netflix since they first started streaming.

Re: Leave it to Beaver

I hope it is available to wholesalers at ebay so you can get it for around $50

$179 is pricey

Usually if you wait a year or two, it will be that price.

I wish I could have pre-ordered it at that price but it is now $179.00 at Amazon. I'll definately wait for a lower price than that-

Re: Leave it to Beaver

It's great they are finally releasing the full series - it is way overdue.

But - what is the logic of not having a BluRay release too?

Is it a marketing ploy so they can get people to double dip on the BluRay version in a year or so?

What's the point of doing a 'hi def' remastering for a DVD (as oppose to BluRay also) release?

Or is there a legitimate (i.e. not related to double dip motivations) reason why it's not coming out on BluRay too at the same time?

I could imagine several reasons:
- Cost of BR production must still be a fair amount higher then DVD.
- Classic TV isn't going to support the volume in production or sales as current titles will.
- From a demographic standpoint I would bet classic TV enthusiasts are a lower percentage of the BR owners.
- Many already complain about the cost of TV seasons so increasing the price tag won't help.
- This is being distributed by a small independent (Shout!) so if the big studio's wouldn't risk it, how could a small shop.
- The remastering effort done by the studio will support future syndication as well as potential releases at no risk to them so why wouldn't they license it out instead.

There are probably more but that is my quick take.

Re: Leave it to Beaver

Thanks for the very informative reply, bsmith.

If they wanted to, would they be able to easily put the new transfer that is coming out on DVD, onto BluRay? Or would that require that an entirely new transfer be done?

What would your best guess be as to when this set would come out on BluRay?

The reason I ask is because I want to purchase this, but I would have buyer's remorse if a BluRay version came out a year or two later. If that is likely to be the case, I'd rather just wait for the BluRay.

And in addition, they actually speed it up to play way faster than it's supposed to, which makes the entire presentation ridiculous.

I'm with you though, it's wonderful that Beaver is finally getting a modicum of respect and will now be presented similar to how it originally was.

Oh yeah, that brings to mind, when would they announce if the pre-episode previews will be included in this set?
