The Simpsons -- "Boy Meets Curl" -- 02/14/10

"Boy Meets Curl"
Spoiler:
Homer takes Marge out for a romantic evening of ice skating and handholding, but upon entering the rink, they encounter a curling team practicing. Marge and Homer take to the ice and discover their love for the sport, and soon after, join the curling team and compete with them in the Olympic trials. Team Springfield claims the win and moves on to the 2010 Vancouver Games where Bob Costas covers the action. Meanwhile, sleazy vendors introduce Lisa to the world of collecting Olympic pins, and before long, Lisa is hopelessly addicted.

Another good episode.

I always thought curling was a ridiculous "sport".

A good episode.

Bob Costas should host SNL.

Re: The Simpsons -- "Boy Meets Curl" -- 02/14/10

This show has definitely been on the upswing lately. It helps that the emotional aspect of The Simpsons is making a comeback; Homer and Marge standing by one another, Bart helping out Lisa in her time of need, etc.

A lot of good jokes in this one too.

Homer telling Marge they came to enjoy a movie, then seeing the movie stars Ben Affleck and him giving up and leaving.

Milhoose and Canadian Nelson's "Hoo Hoo"

Marge: "Let's give the Olympics a miracle!"
Homer:" But this time, on ice!"

Homer chanting USA with the Swedish Flag, then realizing his mistake and tossing it aside.

"Without my necklace I'm just a big Maggie!" - Lisa

"I'm left-handed; I've just used my right hand all these years to seem normal." - Marge

Good episode, hope the trend continues.

One of the best Simpsons episodes in a long time, I loved the new Russian Olympic mascot.

Actual quote: "I should be; I'm left-handed. I've been using my right hand all these years because I didn't want to seem unusual in any way."

I agree that "The Simpsons" has been on an upswing lately. They must have added some talent to their writing staff.

Come on, if you weren't chuckling when Homer was picturing "Santa Ice Diving" as a Winter Olympics event, then you weren't breathing.

I was hoping for some swipes at the Alberta tarsands and seal clubbing. There's plenty more comical critques to be made at Canada that's more cutting edge than referncing "eh" or whatever.

I really do hope The Simpsons do a 2012 Olympics ep... It can really only go in one direction all things considered.

Was it just me or did the animation seem odd? Like everyone was off model.

It's like they used slightly less refined character models to counter the ultra-sharpness of HD and digital animation. I actually liked the look even if I can't explain what is different

What it reminded me of was a coloring book. Everything was rounder and simpler, almost "cuter".

Re: The Simpsons -- "Boy Meets Curl" -- 02/14/10

Yeah I noticed that a couple of episodes ago. It seemed more cartoonish. I think it looks great in HD. I gotta say I've really been impressed with the show lately. Some of last season's episodes were unbearable. It's like the show's had a rebirth.
