RISK - The Movie (Hasbro, Sony Pictures)
In more "board games turned movies" news, Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner announced via his earnings report that Hasbro has struck a deal with Sony Pictures to turn the board game "Risk" into a movie:

First Monopoly, now this. When will we get "hungry hungry hippos - the 3D experience"?
“In motion pictures, with more than $1.1 billion in box office revenue between Transformers and G.I. Joe, and strong product sales in 2009, we are working with Paramount on Transformers 3 and G.I. Joe 2. In addition, we are pleased to add Sony as a studio partner as we reached an agreement to develop Risk as a major motion picture.”

Interviewing Brian Goldner on Sunday. Movies to talk to him about: Stretch Armstrong, Risk, Ouija, Battleship, Monopoly, GI Joe 2, Transformers 3, Clue, Candyland, and...I think that's it?

I actually had to check to see if that was in development and doesn't look like it yet. I'll certainly ask though! I'm going to ask about Hungry Hungry Hippos too. I could see that as an animated kids flick or something. Even though hippos kill more humans than any other animal on earth.

I'm sure a lot of people are also clamoring for MASK, COPS: Central Organization of Police Specialists, Bop It!, and of course, CROSSSSFIAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! to make their big screen debuts.

MASK could actually be good if done right.

I have no faith in Hollywood to make a MASK movie that isn't completely awful. In my head it seems cool with all the transforming vehicles, but then I think about the kid riding the robot around the desert and I know it'd just be an embarrassment.

Wouldn't Risk just be...a war movie?
Edit: Besides, we all know what's going to happen. Europe and the US will duke it out, and then Australasia will sweep in unannounced and take it all.

Well, Battleship could've just been a war movie but now it's apparently some giant battle to the death against aliens. So who knows what they'd do for Risk. Maybe they'll have kids playing and their moves control international politics. A few ways they could go.

I'm looking forward to seeing how they cinematically handle the dice-rolling: CGI or practical effects.

No, because like every other game of Risk, everyone in the party dukes it out trying to claim Australia until one asshole takes over the rest of the board and fucks everyone else over in the process.

M.A.S.K. the movie would be so fuckin' awesome. It's basically a superhero movie mixed with a transformer movie. Why would Hollywood not want to touch that? And there is a good chance that the movie version would be better than the original cartoon (one of my all-time favorites) because the cartoon lacked interesting characters, no depth, no continuity. There is no Storm Shadow/Snake Eyes storyline in M.A.S.K. There is no Megatron/Starscream storyline in M.A.S.K. The stars of M.A.S.K. is the concept. The movie could have brand new characters, brand new vehicles, and brand new mask powers, and it wouldn't be an insult to the cartoon. Sure, they will have Matt Trakker w/Thunderhawk and Miles Mayhem w/Switchblade, but they can change everything else around and it wouldn't be a big deal. Even if they made T-Bob act like Jar Jar Binks, that wouldn't be an insult because in the cartoon, T-Bob acted like Jar Jar Binks. And for the kid, Scott Trakker, no actor could be more annoying that the cartoon version. It may not be a good movie, but I can't believe that it would be a bad adaptation of whatever Hollywood does.
