Ok, heres my thing. i watched the Blockbuster IFC version of Gomorrah, and was disappointed that it seemed like alot of the dialogue was not subtitled. I was wondering if that was intentional or if the Criterion subs most if not all of the dialogue. Also, i was watching 8 1/2 last night on TCM and noticed the same thing. Where there'd be a stretch of dialogue that wasn't subtitled. I noticed the print that TCM used was in pretty bad shape and had alot of hissing in the sound, so i assume the Criterion version is much better.

The Criterion for Gomorrah does have subs for all of the dialogue, but there are more than a few occasions where the subtitles are VERY hard to see. They are white subtitles, and they do not contrast well at all.

Yes there are subtitles.
I watched my dvd once and tried to sell it right away and didn't watch disc 2.
This guy watched it and didn't want to buy it.
I sold it by selling as a 2-disc dvd with a book for $10 to this co-worker.
He bought it and didn't like the movie and wanted his money back.
Be sure you like this movie. If money is tight wait for THE KILLER dvd in a few months. Now that is worth your money!

Are you new to the Internets? There is a place called ebay where you could have gotten at least 80% of what it cost you. There is also Amazon.com that would have worked even better.

thank you. the ifc dvd had pretty easy to read subs. Does the 8 1/2 criterion have white subtitles as well? Next time there is a big criterion sale, i'll prob pick both up

I love gangster movies of all types and years.
So here's what happened.
I saw the 2 movie critics on t.v. praise this movie in 2009.
I couldn't wait for the dvd. So I see it's on Critierion for sale and there's no video store i know that rents it. So I decide to just buy it.
I watch the dvd and didn't like it. I let a co-worker watch it and tell him I'll sell it to him for $10. He didn't like the movie and won't buy it. So now I know I have a dud movie on my hands to sell. I tell another co-worker I sell used dvds to that I have a dvd for sale and he asks what is the movie about. Now I'm on full car salesman mode.
I show him the dvd and tell him it's 2disc dvd,gangster movie, and a booklet comes with this dvd.
He's sold!
Watches it and doesn't like it.
Wants a refund and say no you watched it.
He asks if he can trade it for another movie.
I said no.

I offered the 1st guy who wanted to buy it to watch it first and then he doesn't buy it.
So the 2nd time in order to sell the dvd I use the approach business people use.
It's American for good or bad.
