Texas Killing Fields w/ Sam Worthington - Directed by Mann

No, not Michael... His daughter.

"Worthington Heading To Texas Killing Fields
Source:Variety,Production Weekly February 8, 2010

Sam Worthington will star in Texas Killing Fields, the new murder mystery directed by Ami Canaan Mann according to Variety. Her father Michael Mann is producing.

The script (written by Donald F. Ferrarone) focuses on the true story of a pair of police officers who undertook to solve two decades of disappearances and homicides -- totalling as many as 60 victims -- in the industrial wastelands surrounding Gulf Coast refineries.

Worthington will portray a local homicide detective who works with a New York transplant to wage a war against the unknown but fierce killers. Shooting begins this April in Louisiana

Worthington is also in talks for Dracula: Year Zero with director Alex Proyas, which we reported on here."

Great, now I get to hear Worthington stumble through a Texas accent while his natural accent bleeds through off and on throughout the movie.

For such a middling talent he sure gets a lot of A-list starring roles.

Me either. He acts fine for the roles he's been in....

What A-list starring roles? He's only been big in action/adventure flicks here in the states.

Well since he's only been on the scene in the states for less than 2 years...

Terminator Salvation
Avatar
Last Night
Clash of The Titans
The Debt
Dracula: Year Zero

I'd say those are pretty big A list feature films, Last Night and The Debt aren't action films, but feature top notch casts and behind the camera talent.

Not to be confused with The Killing Fields with Sam Waterston.

See....his roles here aren't meant to be Daniel Day-Lewis caliber acting. He's a Terminator film by McG...check (and he acted fine for what he was), Avatar...check, he seemed to work well in that one too for what he was, and Clash...another Action/adventure flick...which I'm sure isn't calling him to put in an award winning performance. MAYBE this new one might be something to show that he can act in a drama sense but....I dunno.

Sommersault and rogue - good films with him acting. Sam Worthington is 100 times better than Orlando Bloom.

I'm not really a Worthington fan but I'll wait for a trailer to judge. So far they have me interested.

In that case he can be a visually strong leading man to kick ass and act?

I can't say I'm a fan (too soon) but he's been good in both films in which I've seen him:Terminator Salvation and Avatar. I'd like him to tackle some dramas and maybe a few comedies to gauge what his range might be.

he seems to be staring in all the flicks arnie would have been given were he available and younger. when looked at in that light his acting talents don't seem anywhere near as limited as you might initially suspect.

I don't think he's a bad actor, per se, I just think he doesn't have a terribly exciting screen presence. But I have no issues watching anything he stars in.

As for this film, if the directing talent doesn't fall far from the tree (as with Lynch and his daughter), then I'm game. But this would've been an instant must-see if Mann himself were directing.

It's better to have Sam Worthington in all the upcoming action movies rather than having ape boy Channing Tattum in those roles.

I read an article, where Danny Boyle was attached to this and said it was one of the best scripts he's ever read, but, would never get greenlight because the subject matter was too dark, so he left the project.

Yeah, so... is Hollywood in such a talent drought that those two guys are the best young actors? I'd much rather see some of those Worthington roles go to Chris Pine. He has a bit more charisma and personality.

Re: Texas Killing Fields w/ Sam Worthington - Directed by Mann

Not a talent drought, a demographic one. Movies are so expensive that the studios need to make sure the women are buying tickets too. As a result, more and more films are either starring or rumored to star Channing Tatum, Sam Worthington or Taylor Lautner, "proven" box-office attractors.

This of course assumes that people come to see films for just the stars and not an interesting story, and (the rather sexist notion) that women don't like action films.

It's sad, but it's not much different than the way the business has always been. Unless the three fellas I just named get something lined up that's both high-profile and a statement of how they've improved their craft, they won't have careers in a few years, joining the ranks of "proven" box-office attractors like Paul Walker and Orlando Bloom.

I like Pine, but he's like a shrimpy Tom Berenger. I would prefer to just see Sam Worthington in everything, until he becomes the next Jude Law or Collin Ferrel.

I like Sam. He's got a laid-back style, but isn't boring. He's great to look at too, but he must work on the accent. It was horrible in Terminator: Salvation and I'm one of the few who enjoyed the movie as a whole.

Re: Texas Killing Fields w/ Sam Worthington - Directed by Mann

I just watched the Killing Fields again yesterday with Sam Watterson.

When I seen the title of the thread I thought, what are they doing? Killing Fields 2? haha

Seriously though, Sam Worthington=pretty lame actor who was in one of the shittiest films (Avaturd). So he has to go along way for me to pay any real attention to him.
