Heroes -- "Brave New World" -- Season 4 Finale (Maybe Series?) -- 02/08/10

Heroes

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
In the Season 4 finale, Peter joins forces with an unlikely ally to rescue Emma. Elsewhere, Noah and Claire fight for survival while trapped underground with depleting oxygen; Hiro reviews his past choices and takes action to stop a catastrophe.

Could end up being the final episode of the series. Boy, I can't wait to see the trash talk at the end of Monday night.

I posted an idiom that came to mind in the last thread, this time a certain quote comes to mind:

"this is the way the world ends, not with a bang, but with a wimper."

Just like every Heroes finale.

Ahh c'mon, S1 wasn't that bad =) I mostly agree unfortunately, so many things could've been done better.

No season 1 was good, it was the finale that was bad. Everything they built towards was wasted. There was no battle. Sylar got knocked out dragged into a sewer and Nathan/Peter flew off into the night sky while Claire, Nikki and Parkman stood there dumbstruck. zzzzzz....

Kind funny going back and rereading the Season 1 finale thread: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/tv-talk/501...21-2007-a.html

Full of disappointment but high hopes, expectations and predictions for season 2. All unfulfilled.

An 11 page Heroes thread?

Good times. Barely gets to 2 pages now. I guess we're the stupid ones that stuck with it.

I'll probably watch this Wednesday. I'd rather watch Life Unexpected.

Sounds like these threads might give CSI a run for their money next year for fewest replies.

I won't lie. I thought this show went off the air after fans were screaming bloody murder over S3 apparently sucking as much as S2 (I never watched either).

I just want Samuel to die already. Sick and tired of the actor and the way his character speaks with that stupid action. Gonna watch it just cuz my wife and I have followed since day 1. Not expecting anything great.

Oh come now people..with the exception of a few stumbles, this season has been miles better than the past two. It's just unfortunate that it came too late and most of its' audience has already moved on...

If you really want to be annoyed, read this interview with Tim Kring by the AV Club (a site that pretty routinely rates Heroes D+ week in and week out):

http://www.avclub.com/articles/tim-kring,37975/

It's your fault the show's not good. YOU! Or the network's. Or an actor's agents. Totally not his or the other writers, though. No way.

I actually do agree with him that this'd be a better show if there were 13 episodes a season instead of 20-something.

/\ Thanks for posting that, it was a pretty funny read.

AVC: Have you thought about killing off any more major characters?
TK: Not really. We’re down to a real core group right now.
A core group? You've still got about 4 or 5 characters too many.

TK: ...We’ve got so much story to tell, best idea wins. We’ll take an idea from the guy who gets our coffee, you know?
Yeah, no shit.

That's not saying much. And even those of us who have moved on seem to be continually disappointed.

In my case, I'm convinced it's because I usually marathon the show. The show just doesn't hold up if you watch even four or five episodes in the span of a few days... it probably works better if you watch them one a week, so you don't question all the continuity gaffes as much. There are whole subplots and even whole episodes that ultimately went nowhere, seemingly because the direction of the plot changes with the wind. That said, I haven't watched the last three or four episodes, just wanted to comment in the thread because by the time I get to the end, this thread will be long, long dead.

From that interview:

AVC: Are there things you would have liked to do that NBC kept you from doing?

TK: Yes, I would have done fewer episodes. Thirteen a season is fabulous—you can really control the quality and the way you craft them. The sheer number of episodes has been a real struggle for us.
NBC will likely give Heroes a 13 episode 5th season. Maybe they already have, and just not announced it hence why he is saying he is happy with it, knowing that his only option.

Skip to around 21 minutes in to hear Stephen Tobolowsky explain what a trainwreck production was:
http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/01/29/...#disqus_thread

...although he doesn't really trash the show, exactly.

I probably fell alseep the whole season. Why does Samuel need to surround himself with people with power for his power to work? It makes no fucking sense. He wasn't near people with power when he took down the police station or the whole town. God, these fucking writers, especially Tim Kring, are the shittest writers in TV network.

I thought Cello girl had to focus and think about it for people to come to her when she played.

Am I crazy, or did it sound like a portion of "A Day in the Life" by the Beatles was playing when Samuel fell on his knees at the end?

I haven't watched a single minute of this season (watched the 3 prior), but now that the season is over I'd like some opinions if I should even bother - I have them all saved.

Without getting all spoilery, can someone tell me if there was an actual conclusion, or was it a cliffhanger. In other words, if the show doesn't get picked up will whatever fans are left be okay with that?

Worst season ever! It started out OK and I thought it was going to be the best since season one but now even I wish this series would die. The carnival plot was the worst idea of any season. The quality of this season is perfectly exemplified by the here one second, gone the next accent that Samuel butchered over and over. There were moments that you could actually tell what accent he was supposed to be using just like there were moments the show came together and shined. Then there were moments where you thought "hey, didn't he have an accent last week or even a few moments ago?" and "didn't I used to like this show?" The biggest sin was it just became boring. At least the crapfests of the previous two seasons were entertaining even if it wasn't the good kind of entertainment.

No, it doesn't wrap up. It ends with something happening that has so much potential that you think could really help the show. The trouble is you know it'll just be another disappointment. I'd be fine if this were it.

For me, this was the series finale. I watched it every week and every week I wished I had never started the season - stuck with it hoping against hope that it would improve. I don't think I'll be back, even if it's on the fall schedule.
