I'll be the first to admit it - I saw it. I thought the first was harmless and cute. This one was more of the same but tried a little too hard with the cuteness. Still, harmless and light.

The sight of David Cross sort of grosses me out.

You left out 'Squeakwel' from the title.

I just saw that they had Christina Applegate voice one of the girl chipmunks. WHY THE FUCK would you need her if all you're going to do is Chipmunk her voice and make it sound like every other chipmunk?

I was subjected to this on Christmas ... it doesn't suck. I'll agree that the tone and quality were similar to the first one without over-referencing the first film. If you enjoyed the first, you'll enjoy the second.

My question is: Was Dave originally intended to have very little screen time or was there something going on with Jason Lee that he was "written out"?

BTW the other Chippettes were Anna Ferris and Amy Poehler. I do agree -- why?

Sorry -- one more comment edited in -- Why do I still find Wendie Malick oddly attractive?

So Lee wised up and avoided being part of this?

no he's still in the movie with full credits. he's in at least three scenes, at the beginning and the end. he probably had limited time to shoot

funny, i can't see him now without thinking of My Name is Earl

Probably just meeting some contractual agreement or there was less money for this one than the first so they limited his role (probably to his liking).

Re: "Alvin and the Chipmunks 2" - Review Thread

btw, why the heck did they need name actresses for the voices of the female Chipmunks? when the voices are sped up you can't distinguish male from female, let alone recognizable actresses

i guess the studio can afford it, just because of how much money these family-oriented holiday movies make. my nieces dragged me to it the day after Boxing Day, the theater was packed with kids and bored adults

Saw the first 15 minutes and then snuck out to see Up in the Air. From what my wife and daughter say I missed a classic.

I just cringe when I see these clips, seriously....a good kids film is so fucking rare now. Seems that it's getting harder as time passes.

Re: "Alvin and the Chipmunks 2" - Review Thread

One of my mother-in-law's friends (yes, an adult female) recommended this movie to us in a non-joking manner and said we would love it.

If I ever find her, I will rip her eyes out of her head and piss in the holes.

David Cross has officially lost all my respect.

And I also had the same reaction as above to seeing the "famous" voice actresses, for all the Chipmunks. Why?

I took my six-year-old niece to see this. She ate it up. Me, at the end my ears were bleeding.

The CGI characters were obnoxious and annoying, and their interaction with the with the human characters was unconvincing.

Re: "Alvin and the Chipmunks 2" - Review Thread

as of right now it's made $178 million in 3 weeks

for sake of comparison, Disney's latest cartoon the Princess and the Frog has only made $92 million after 7 weeks

why does Hollywood make this crap? because it sells.

no doubt Alvin & the Chipmunks 3 is already being planned

Re: "Alvin and the Chipmunks 2" - Review Thread

It was a forgettable kids movie, raised a little by Jason Lee and David Cross. Those two made me laugh ten-or-so times. The akward, unexplainable plot was similar to a Saturday morning cartoon. Didn't hate it. Won't buy the DVD.

Maybe it just angered you DVDTalkers because it makes fun of guys who live with their Grandma and play video games all day. You know who you are.

Were there any poo-poo, pee-pee, and/or fart jokes in it?

I recall one fart. I laughed.

I did not laugh at the Taxi Driver impersonation. That was very offensive.

Not only a fart joke,
Spoiler:
but a bona fide Dutch Oven joke.
