Arnold Stang - RIP 1918-2009

USA Today

Arnold Stang, a character actor known for his nerdy looks and nasally voice, has died at the age of 91.

Stang appeared alongside comedian Milton Berle on radio and TV and with Frank Sinatra in the film Man with the Golden Arm.

He was also the voice for the cartoon character Top Cat and did a widely known commercial for Chunky candy bar.

The diminutive actor appeared in movies alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bill Cosby and continued acting into his 80s, playing a role in the 1993 movie Dennis the Menace.

He died of pneumonia in a Boston-area hospital.

One of the great ones. I'll always remember him best as the gas station attendant who (along with the great Marvin Kaplan) takes on Jonathan Winters in It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Stang.

That's the character/role of Mr. Stang's that I thought of first, as well.

To this day I sometimes say, "IRWIN, WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO?" in his nasally voice when it fits.

He gave us a memorable performance in the timeless classic "Hercules in New York".

"Got a letter from a lady in Yonkers, NY wants to hear more Arnold Stang."
-- Albert Brooks, "The D.J."

A memorable character actor and a recognizable name. He was a true classic.

Wow, RIP.

I was thinking about how my earliest memory of him was when he voiced, "Nurtle the Turtle" in "Pinocchio in Outer Space"

He paved the way for Eddie Deezen.
