That E.W. list is ludicrous, even for them. RS is a bit better, but still pretty weak. Evidently no films were released outside of America the last decade.

Because the movie falls apart about 1/3 of the way through (it's pretty damn nifty before). The protagonist stops being an active heroic figure and becomes a passive, near nihilistic dolt. He does nothing, he only reacts to things that happen around him, plans that OTHER people set into motion or through the actions of others he finds himself faced with opportunity or adversity. The lack of forward motion sucks all the energy out of the movie and makes it a glum, stagnant affair. The movie looks great, has some nifty action sequences, but it's a big beautiful car that doesn't run or go anywhere.

And that idiotic, contrived, GEE I WONDER HOW THIS IS GOING TO TURN OUT plot convenience for a final scene (spoilers just in case) -- -- steers the entire film into MST3K territory.

All IMO, of course. And if being "a man" means lobotomizing yourself to elevate a POS like Gladiator, I'd rather grow a pair of Double Ds; at least then when I get drunk I can feel myself up.

Well, get used to both of these titles, because you will see one or the other (possibly both) on most critics best of the decade list. And I think they are both worthy.

Somebody will have to explain the appeal of Wall E and Moulin Rouge to me someday. Moulin Rouge was a painful experience and Wall-E was a bore.


Cool to see Children of Men and Mulholland Drive get some love, though.

Ya I'm seriously shocked to see Wall-E landing on all these Best of the Decade lists. Ratatouille, Incredibles, and Monsters Inc. are all far superior to Wall-E.

I wouldn't have it there, but it's nice to see The Incredibles on the Rolling Stone list.

Considering how ridiculous their list is to begin with, I'm surprised EW didn't throw Twilight in there somewhere.

Hell, EW's mainstream list is more appealing to me since I loved Gladiator, Dark Knight, Wall-E, and Moulin Rouge. It helps that I disliked Mulholland Drive and No Country strongly.

Funny, I watched this for the first time last night after seeing this list. I thought it was a decent movie but nowhere near best movie of the decade.

Hilarious to watch people get bent out though. I always find these lists interesting, never anything to get particularly irritated about though.
