Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (May 2010)
This is a "Sands of Time" sequel.
http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/30/pr...sands-of-time/
Ubisoft has just announced a new Prince of Persia -- but it's not a sequel to 2008's polarizing adventure (if desired, add unhappy emoticons to sentence). Instead, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands will continue the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time trilogy series, complete with "many of the fan-favorite elements" and "new gameplay innovations that gamers have come to expect from the Prince of Persia brand." Oh, and an accompanying film!
You can catch the game's premiere trailer on Spike TV's Video Game Awards on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 8 p.m. EST. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is scheduled for release on "consoles and handhelds" in May 2010.

I'm disappointed that this isn't a continuation of Prince of Persia 2008, but I also LOVED the Sands of Time trilogy. I say bring it on...

I loved the way the 2008 game played. One of my favorites of last year. Sands of Time was good as well though so hopefully this will be a great game and not a movie tie in.

I love the Sands of TIme trilogy and I love the 2008 game. So I'm both delighted and dismayed by this news. So bring it on but also make sure to follow up the last one. That horrible ending needs to be recitified with a great sequel.
I'm really looking forward to the movie but I hope this new game is not a tie-in. Those are never good.

I LOVED the original Sands of Time. Didn't like the sequel at all (it was more fight game and less puzzles/acrobatics, if I recall correctly), and never played the 2008 game. Still, I'll give it a shot.

You recall somewhat incorrectly, Hokeyboy. Warrior Within had more acrobatics and deeper puzzles than The Sands of Time. The problem is that they included an excess of combat, the tone looked like what 13 year old would consider "mature", and the "extreme" personality of the Prince was grating. The two Thrones remedied the tone, simplified the combat with stealth kills, but dumbed down the puzzles.
The trilogy was great overall but the first is definitely the best. If it weren't for the tonal shift and excessive combat, the second would be the best by far.

I don't get the hate that Warrior Within gets. I wonder how many of the haters even played the game. Warrior Within still had a lot of acrobatic stuff, but it seems like most of the haters claim that it was removed in favor of the "extreme" nature. It really makes me wonder if they even played the game.
The first game had one major problem, and that is that combat was boring as heck. Basically you just tapped the same button over and over.
Warrior Within fixed the combat by including combos and making it more interesting like a fighting game. Warrior Within still retained all the acrobatics and puzzle elements though. It just fixed the combat and made it more exciting, so that is wasn't just an incredibly boring chore in-between acrobatic and puzzle scenes.
The Dahaka chase sequences in Warrior Within were my favorite parts of the entire trilogy. They were purely acrobatic and were very intense.
However I do agree that the "extreme" swearing Prince, the scantily clad women, and the heavy metal music did not belong it the game. Those were the only real problems of the game, but yet those were surface problems only that did not effect the underlying gameplay at all. The gameplay was still very much Sands of Time at its core, only with better combat.

For what it's worth, Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones and POP 2008 were both better than Warrior Within. I think Ubisoft learned from that one...

My only beef with Warrior Within is that the atmosphere was missing out on that whole POP feel from the first one, and it seemed to have a few bugs.
However, I LOVED how Two Thrones was able to bridge everything together and rectify the story.

Sands of Time felt like a fairy tale, I think thats why I like it so much. Warrior Within felt like it was designed by an X Games analyst. The Godsmack music was ridiculous, and the combat was tedious and forced.

Re: Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (May 2010)
Well, I decided to bust this out before getting into Red Dead Redemption. I loved the Sands of Time trilogy, so it wasn't really a question of whether I was getting this or not. While I feel it lacks a certain level of polish, it's already way better than Warrior Within ever was. True, the fighting is more similar to Sands of Time than it is Warrior Within, but the atmosphere and platforming more than make up for it. Enjoying it so far.
