I'll probably tune in for a few minutes and check it out. BTW, if the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is in Cleveland, why did they have the concert in NYC? Couldn't get enough talent that wanted to go to Cleveland?!

Well, it is the "Most Famous Arena in The World" and they could (and did) sell over 20,000 tickets per night.

Apparently tonight is the only time the full concert will air, as repeats of the show will be a shortened version of the show. I wish HBO posted what time each artist showed up

uh oh, Mick Jagger, Fergie and U2 doing Gimmie Shelter.

Jagger actually doesn't look too scary in HD as i thought he would

Jeff Beck is on now w/ one of the guys from ZZ Top covering "Foxy Lady". I assume they are giving Springsteen the final slot.

Each act has gotten about 30 minutes or so give or take

I really want to see Billy Joel singing Born to Run.. That's got to be awesome... Who did Sting sing with? I don't have HBO....

This is "DVD Talk" afterall... Anyone have a clue if this concert will come out on DVD? I imagine licensing will prevent that from happening.

Sting did a song w/Jeff Beck (don't know the song), and did 2 songs with Stevie Wonder (one was "Roxanne", and he sang some of "Higher Ground")
Springsteen is up now and Sam Moore is up with him singing "Soul Man"

there is a possibility. Its a 4 hour special, but this was a 2 night affair, and i think each act got about 45 to an hour, as I saw Metallica's setlist, and they played more songs then they aired.

Billy Joel is up now, doing "New York State of Mind" w/Springsteen, I assume "Born to Run" will be the closer to the show

Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th anni. Concert HBO 11/29 8-12:10

Couple of observations (IMHO):

Lou Reed doesn't look well physically at all. He looked like he could hardly move to his spot at the mike.

Ozzy Osborne is a joke. How could anyone put him onstage to perform (especially with a band like Metallica).

Darlene Love was awesome. What a great voice and presence.

Stevie Wonder with Jeff Beck on 'Superstition' was great.

Simon? Still Great. Garfunkel? Nice shirt. No Voice Left.

Bruce was high energy (as usual). His duet with John Fogerty on 'Pretty Woman' was terrific.

I'm one of Billy Joel's biggest fans, and while his piano playing is still top-notch, his voice is pretty much shot. Almost 20 years and counting since he released new material. Him and Bruce are the same age, and Bruce remains vital, while Billy just looks and sounds old. Genuinely makes me sad.

I was going to come on here and defend him...but on second thought I really can't. That's what makes me sad....

Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th anni. Concert HBO 11/29 8-12:10

Concert was great, my highlights
- CSN w/ Bonnie Rait doing Love Has No Pride - Just beautiful
- Stevie Wonder w/ John Legend doing The Way You Make Me Feel - Stevie breaks down in the middle and can barely continue
- Simon and Garfunkle doing Bridge Over Troubled Water - Art can still nail that ending
- Metallica with Lou Reed doing Sweet Jane - rocking version
- Metallica with Ozzy doing Iron Man and Paranoid - Ozzy reminds the audience what rock and roll is
- U2 with The Boss doing I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
- The Boss doing my second favorite e-street song, Jungleland.

I missed the first hour of it (Tuned in on "Enter Sandman") liked what I saw from there. Favorite moments were Beck's "A Day in the life" and "Soul Man" Sam. Sam still sounds great. I'll keep a look-out for a replay.

Noticed that HBO is only playing a shortened 2 hour and 10 min replay from now on, so it will just be highlights(i think HBO 2 will do the full 4 hour version)

And i think Ozzy was the only reason that this special got a TV-14 rating for Language

Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th anni. Concert HBO 11/29 8-12:10

I heard they played over 5 1/2 hours the first night so this really can't be the complete two concerts. The replays might be cut into two parts at two hours each. The descriptions say concerts. Bruce played for about 104 minutes. Here is his setlist:

Tenth Avenue Freeze-out
Hold On, I'm Coming (with Sam Moore)
Soul Man (with Sam Moore)
The Ghost of Tom Joad (with Tom Morello)
Fortunate Son (with John Fogerty)
Proud Mary (with John Fogerty)
Pretty Woman (with John Fogerty)
Jungleland
A Fine, Fine Boy (with Darlene Love)
Da Doo Ron Ron (with Darlene Love)
London Calling (with Tom Morello)
Badlands (with Tom Morello)
* * *
You May Be Right (with Billy Joel)
Only the Good Die Young (with Billy Joel)
New York State of Mind (with Billy Joel)
Born to Run (with Billy Joel)
Higher and Higher (with all, plus Jackson Browne and Peter Wolf)

Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th anni. Concert HBO 11/29 8-12:10

Here was Metallica's full setlist. They only played one song w/Ray Davies on the final show.
01. For Whom The Bell Tolls
02. One
03. Turn The Page
04. Sweet Jane (w/ Lou Reed)
05. White Light White Heat (w/ Lou Reed)
06. Iron Man (w/ Ozzy Osbourne)
07. Paranoid (w/ Ozzy Osbourne)
08. You Really Got Me (w/ Ray Davies)
09. All Day And All Of The Night (w/ Ray Davies)
10. Stone Cold Crazy
11. Enter Sandman

If you have HBO2, they are showing the full 4 hour concert (U2 just ended, so if you have HBO2 west, you can catch the full thing.

According to my schedule, the HBO replay will essentially be a 2 hour highlight show, that version is on HBO at 9pm thursday

and U2's full set
Vertigo
Magnificent
Because The Night (with Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith)
Because The Night (repeated in full due to missed cues)
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For (with Bruce Springsteen)
Mysterious Ways
Where Is The Love? / One (snippet) (with the Black Eyed Peas) (i really wanna see that, mainly since One is prob one of my top 5 fave songs ever)
Gimme Shelter (with Mick Jagger and Fergie)
Stuck In A Moment (with Mick Jagger)
Beautiful Day

They also have a two hour block scheduled for Friday at 9PM which is why I think they are splitting it up into two parts.

I'm watching this on my DVR currenty, you gotta love the jarring cut from Aretha Franklin and Annie Lennox, straight to Metallica

Agree with whomever said Darlene Love was great. Bruce was clearly having a good time playing A Fine, Fine Boy. I love how sweaty Springsteen gets when playing.

And Clarence is getting pretty old. I saw the E Street band a few years back, but it seems as though he has aged a lot with the latest tour. His eyes seemed tired...but his Sax solo on Jungleland was bliss.

Love Metallica, but they sounded like trash. Guitars seemed low, Lars's feet can't keep up, even Kirk's fingers were dragging on the solo part of For Whom the Bell Tolls (pre lyrics). I'm sure the live setting with heavy bass and volumn covers up a lot of problems...but they haven't sounded good on tv in a long while.

Poor Clarence is almost 70 and recently had double knee replacement along with a hip replacement. Thats why there's a stool near where he stands.

Anyone know if the dvd will have unreleased clips? I'm sure they will. Just curious what it may be.

People have been saying that about Lars for years. Go on youtube and look up Metallica w/Dave Lombardo, and you can instantly hear how much better of a drummer he is over Lars.

I don't know what the hell HBO is doing with the replays. I just flipped it on for the hell of it, and U2 just finished "Beautiful Day" and now its credits, so they're probably litterally playing out of order highlights for 2 nights, unless tomorrow is the same show

never mind, they said "part 2 is tomorrow" but i don't know how they're gonna run it
