DVD Talk Reviewers...How about a little more love for SD owners?
Lately, to me, it seems that all the new releases that get reviewed here are for the BD releases and not there SD counterparts. I have looked to DVD Talk for my reviews of discs for many years now and am dismayed by this trend of leaving us SD owners out in the cold. Could you please show us a little love and review more SD new release reviews...There are some of us that do not want to convert to BD-
Much appreciated and no disrespect intended!

Yeah, in a perfect world they'd send out both versions, and we'd get more reviews.
The general public may still be at 80-90% DVD, but this forum is probably closer to 50/50 now.

Re: DVD Talk Reviewers...How about a little more love for SD owners?
I'm the one who deals with the studios for DVDTalk, and if they are releasing a film on DVD and Blu-ray I request both. Unfortunately some places are only sending one or the other. I've explained to the reps that sending a copy of each will get their release two different reviews and twice the coverage on the site, but in most cases their hands are tied. More than one rep has told me that review copies have been limited (severely in some cases) and that they're sending us as much as they can.
I'll continue to try to get DVDs and Blu-rays, and I'll point to this thread to let the studios know that there's a demand for covering both formats.

Thanks John. How many review copies do you think the studios send out? I know that there are only a few major websites doing DVD reviews, but do a lot of magazines and newspapers and 'famous' critics get stuff too.
I know it's variable and you probably couldn't know specifics, but i'm just curious as to your best guesses.

I really don't know how many copies are sent out, though I'm sure it differs from studio to studio. I know one studio used to (I'm not sure if they still do) send out review copies to a lot of 'mommy blogs' to get the title promoted by word of mouse, umm I mean mouth. Others are more picky. I have heard that some big ticket complete series (that DVDTalk received) were very limited with less than 10 being sent out for review.
There's more than just web sites though. Newspapers and magazines (as you mentioned) get review copies too, so I'd think a regular release from a big Hollywood studio would have upwards of 100 copies sent out. That's totally just a guess on my part and may have no bearing on reality.
