RIP: Edward Woodward
Very shocked there wasn't a thread for this.
Edgar Wright does a great personal tribute to a man he only worked with once, but grew up admiring.

I'm very sad to hear of his passing as McCall is one my favorite TV characters. I can only think of himself and Ian McShane as being the toughest men to ever grace a TV screen, despite being in their 50s-60s.
He was great on the big screen too, most notably in The Wicker Man, Breaker Morant, and Hot Fuzz. Unfortunately, some of the films Wright references in his tribute are MIA on DVD.

For me he's probably best known as a TV actor on The Equalizer and I noticed on his bio that most of his other work is in British TV rather than film.

The kick-ass Equalizer intro promised more than the show delivered.

Re: RIP: Edward Woodward
I remember him as Callan on TV in the 60's. Terrific series, that was made as a one-off, but was so popular it became a series that ran for years. He was brilliant in both Breaker Morant and The Wicker Man. The Equaliser was okay, but he was probably past his best action roles by then. A tremendous presence on screen and a very forceful actor, likened IMHO to the late Rod Steiger in his roles.

Wow, sad news . I remember how cool The Equalizer was back when I was a teen watching it. Universal get off your ass and release some more seasons of it.

Sad news.
I just listened to Edgar and Quentin's commentary track on Hot Fuzz and they did speak at length about Edward Woodward. As part of the DVD Talk October Horror Movie challenge I watched The Wicker Man a few years ago -- the 2006 remake certainly did not do the original justice.
Nice tribute by Edgar.

I totally missed this, I guess I need to edit some preferences in Google news to remove the media whores so I can view stories that should be listed.
A nice body of work and to have The Equalizer come at a time when many actors are retired was great.
