Well, if it does turn out to be online only, I'll just have to use it on something other than groceries like I was intending. Not a huge deal, but I can see how it would be a deal-breaker to some. Even if you just get a couple of games or accessories. Year of live, some XBLM points, wireless controller, whatever.

I'm worried about in store availability. My store only has maybe 1 or 2 arcade units on any given day. I wonder if they plan to bring in a large supply for this sale. I don't want to have to stand in some line only to find out they were sold out in 10 seconds.

I would buy one now. Go back at 8am (or as close to it as possible) and try to get the deal legit. Three possibilities:
1) You get the deal and have 2 Xboxes, return the first one. You just wasted an extra trip on insurance.
2) You don't get the deal, but have the first Xbox. Return it and rebuy it at Customer Service. You might be able to talk your way into a $100 gift card without that process, but return/rebuy is worst case.
3) All of the above fail and you simply return the one you pre-bought and walk away.

If you are out of warranty, paying to get a non-Jasper fixed would be the worst possible decision here, unless you would never use a $100 Amazon promotional code. It would cost you $100 just to get it fixed, and it still wouldn't be as reliable or quiet as a Jasper.

I asked and they admitted they didn't know. I didn't expect them to let me keep it, but the receipt didn't seem to indicate they'd want it back. They did, and that's ok.
I ended up returning both 360s I bought this week and the Lego Rock Band placeholder since I didn't want to wait for Amazon to ship it to me. I got a refund of $486.11 in cash because LRB was bought on my check card and the total return of everything (though the 360s were on a different credit card) was applied to my "debit" card and they're required to give cash.
I seriously was afraid I was going to get jumped with $500 cash in my wallet on the way out of there!

You can buy a 120gb hard drive brand new from Amazon for $134.99. A headset right now for $17.49. Now you have the Arcade with everything I think except the Ethernet cable for $252.48. You can get 12 months live right now for $39.49 (+1 month with the system?). Now your total cost is $291.97.
Benefit = Free 1 year Xbox LIVE over Elite price.
If you don't want to add any extra money over the $100 promo code, and don't need the whole 120gb, Amazon has a 60GB LIVE Starter Pack for $89.49. It includes the 60GB Hardrive, an Ethernet cable, a Wired headset and 3 Month subscription to Xbox LIVE (maybe 4 months if the system comes with one?). Your total for all this is $189.49 (you still have $10.51 to put toward a game :)).
Benefit = $110.50 less than an Elite + the 3 months LIVE (or like paying $110 less for 60gb of hard drive space, and you can get 2+ years of live free).

OK, but let's keep this all in one Walmart trip.
$200 - Arcade system
$150 - 120GB HD
$20 - Headset
$10 - Ethernet cable
-$100 Gift Voucher
$280
...but, and I'm not sure if they still do this, with the last Elite I bought I also got Kung Fu Panda & Lego Indy with it, so at $20 for each game, an Elite really cost $259.99+$40 in games.
I'm not ripping on anyone that grabbed one, I just didn't see what the big deal was. When an Elite was $399, the arcade upgrade would've seemed like quite the deal, but not so much anymore, IMO. :)

Yes, you're right. My example was for Amazon.com which had the same deal as Walmart on the same day (it was the Lightning Deal of the day twice, the 1st and I think the 3rd or 4th). So this deal could have been a little better at Amazon than Walmart if you bought accessories with the $100.
I'm not a big gamer like a lot of you here. I bought an elite and I know that the 120gb is way more than I'll ever need. If I didn't have the Elite I purchased for $300 (+$18 tax) when the price dropped a couple months ago (and accessories left in the basement after my kids moved out), I would have got the Amazon deal in one of these configurations (all available today on Amazon at these prices):
Setup #1
=========================
$199.98 -Arcade system (all Arcades are Jaspers)
$49.99 -20gb Starter kit (refurb hard drive with headset & 3 month Live)
$76.49 -Xbox 360 wireless network adapter
$37.49 -extra wireless controller
$39.49 -12 months Live Gold
-$100 -Promotion
===============
$303.44 total shipped
Wow, I really like this 2nd one!
Does anyone know if this would total 16 months Xbox Live (12 + 3 in starter kit + 1 that comes when you buy the system)?
I don't really have anyone to play with here at the house, so I could leave off the extra controller and charger and insert any game.
I'm not trying to bust your ba!!s Steve. I'll agree that this deal may not be that good for some but for others I think it's real good (at Amazon).

i just need a 20 gig. I won't be downloading any demos on the 360, in fact I won't even have it connected to the internet. I will temp hook it up to get any content locked to my id, and hook it up when I want to buy something, but that's it. I am not buying a wireless adapter for it. So that saves me the live membership, and a big hard drive. I will use my ps3 if I want demos or such. I don't have a router close so it's kind of a pain to move it every time I want to buy something, but meh, sure beats spending 70 - 80 on a wireless adapter. Unless of course 3rd party ones work now lol. I have a netgear wireless adapter sitting here that I got from newegg for like 8 bucks that I never ended up using at all.

Actually you spent $200 + 14.

If you figure that he would have bought the $100 worth of groceries whether he bought the 360 or not, then it is $100 + $14.

I found two arcades today. Purchased them both for coworkers. There was a sign on the case advertising the $100 gift card and that it runs through 11/15.

That's what I'm saying... I was thinking that if i bought this then I wouldn't have any money left from my check for food for the week, then I thought, well shit. I will have a 100 dollar card to use for food at walmart lol.

Stopped by yesterday morning and they had arcades in stock with the sign. If I hadn't just dropped $400 on a COD:MW2 250 gb unit, I would've picked one up just for the thrill of finding the sale.

You right about the thrill, they weren't even for me and I was getting a rush...which is sad.
