Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that the next two titles in their Sapphire Series Blu-ray releases will be individual releases of 'The Godfather: Sapphire Series' and 'The Godfather: Part II - Sapphire Series'. Original only available as part of the 'The Godfather Collection: The Coppola Restoration', the discs will be identical to those original releases.

Notably missing from the announcement is individual releases for 'The Godfather: Part III' and the fourth disc from the set which features a ton of bonus material. Many collectors were waiting for individual releases due to the inclusion of 'The Godfather: Part III' in the original set, which is generally seen as the weakest of the three films.

Both 'The Godfather' and 'The Godfather: Part II' Sapphire Series Blu-ray individual releases will be available on February 2nd

Cool! The first one is the only one I would want. I found the second one too long and boring.

Wow, it only took them three releases to lessen their new label (though I guess some people will say they tarnished it immediately based on Gladiator's poor video quality).....
I'm glad there are no new features or anything to double dip with, but these seem like lesser releases to me than deserving of their "Sapphire Series" name....I mean, just reissuing previously released discs from a set as standalone titles? Don't get me wrong, both Godfather 1 & 2 are some of the best films ever made, but the three current SS releases are all fully loaded two disc special editions that were making their BD debut....
IMO, I don't care how much somebody hates GF3, it just makes a lot more sense to buy the trilogy set and throw out Part 3 then to buy these two standalones and miss out on all the extras expect for the commentary tracks....

throw out My Fair Lady looking like it does from the recently released Paramount Home Video edition and that reputation will stick.

Lame. And that means American Beauty and Titanic get pushed back again so we can get two re-releases. The freakin' trilogy can be had for $50 or less and these will be $20-25 on Amazon each.

Very lame, indeed. Although I am amused at how Paramount makes it blatantly obvious that even they don't like GFIII.

Well the Sapphire line is for movies that received awards so Godfather III would not be one of them. They are re-releasing a handful of movies in gold slip covers as well sometime in February. I'll have to check through my e-mails, but I remember seeing a There Will be Blood one that was the Theatrical poster with a gold border around it and '2007' towards the bottom.

Nah, this has nothing to do with Paramount's critical opinion of the third movie. It's all about marketing and Part III does not offer an "academy award winning" tie-in.

Lame. I have the box set already (both on Blu and standard DVD, the latter packaged in a steelbook), so it's pointless.

I'll just keep waiting for Titanic and American Beauty.

I wonder if Sapphire means "Best Picture Winner" It makes sense so far.
