I've just started to notice that almost all of the DVDs are OOP now, so surely something must be coming eventually. Has anything at all been said yet about the possibility of anything Chaplin hitting BD in the near future?

Rumor has it that Criterion just obtained the rights to the collection, so it's probably in the works now.

Like biglou said above, Criterion seems to have acquired the rights and will probably released them. The good thing about this is that they will probably fix the huge ghosting issues that the WB releases had.

OMFG..YESSSSS. I've been holding out for soooo long now cuz of the sets' fuck ups. Fucking awesome. Chaplin in BD woohoo!!! Hopefully we get the original versions too before Chaplin cut some down or changed his stuff a bit. I just want it all.

I have to thank this thread. I was about to buy the OOP sets of the Chaplin Collection 1 and 2 from WB and didn't know that Criterion had acquired the rights for Chaplin's movies.
My only "dilemma" is whether Criterion will release his films on a box set or individually. If they release his movies individually, it might be cheaper to go ahead and purchase the WB sets.
What are the issues for the Chaplin Collection WB sets? Please enlighten me.

Warner's were either not allowed to or didn't pay for a PAL-to-NTSC conversion when they obtained the rights from MK2. Most of the films suffer from some form of ghosting.

Thank you. That's a big "issue" for me. I'm just going to wait and see what Criterion will do with the Chaplin's films.

And for some reason, they won't play correctly on my Blu-ray player.
