Firstly, I'll mention I very rarely order online, but in the handful of times I have, it's been from Newbury.

The first time was last year when the single disc remastered edition of 'You Only Live Twice" was selling for $20+ from other sellers. Newbury had a copy on the marketplace for less than $10 and I received it within three days, no problems.

The second time was ordering the "Ultimate Superman Collection" (for $15) after another seller I tried, didn't bother to email an out of stock notice until a week after ordering. Once again, the item was delivered in under a week, mint condition.

The third and most recent time, was an order of the three-disc Hot Fuzz DVD. Sadly, the USPS destroyed the case, but the discs survived without a scratch. I emailed Newbury to mention that bubble mailers might not be the best idea for DVD, but I was still happy with my order given the price ($8) and the DVDs surviving.

To my shock this morning I got an e-mail from them saying they apologized for the mishap and they would sent a replacement copy and that there was no need to return the damaged copy, just throw it out.

Absolute class in my book.

Newbury Comics is one of the reasons I'm happy I live in the Greater Boston area. Growing up I took the stores for granted, but when i got older and realized that every city didn't have an equivilant chain I started to appreciate them more.

Newbury Comics can be hit or miss on pricing and new release availability (at least with respect to more obscure releases), but their (now heavy) selection of used, obscure titles and weekly new release pricing are all great. Service and staff are usually excellent all around. Most seem to give a hoot about the product which they sell.

High props to Newbury Comics and its continued success. At least 30-40 of my collection is from one of their stores; and I've been to most. The rest of the collection was mostly purchased online - if that means anything.

I love Newbury Comics. I can't walk out of there without dropping obscene amounts of money.

I make it a point to stop in to one of the locations whenever I'm up that way visiting my friend in college or relatives. They always have something for me to drop $$$ on and I don't mind.

Yeah ..and couple that with having one within 5 minutes walking distance from work = dangerous.

Dear lord, that'd be the death of me. Closest to me is in North Attleboro...probably about a 15 minute drive or so.

Whenever I traveled up to the Boston area to visit a friend, I would always go to Newbury Comics. I've made some really spectacular finds there. I was really happy to see them turn up as an Amazon vendor, so I try to support them even if they are a little more price-wise. I just received the 3-disc Hot Fuzz set from them yesterday.

I've ordered from them a few times, mostly for preorder specials. Everything has always gone smoothly.

I've ordered from them a few times and have been very pleased. But can somebody explain this "storefront" link to me? Common sense would make it seem that it takes you to a listing of all the items they have listed with Amazon, but it just takes you to a blank search page. Is there a way to browse thru the listings of just that store?

Is there any way to browse their inventory on Amazon? It only gives a search box when I click on that link.

I'm not sure. I've always found some of the storefront's clunky, although I do recall the link I posted at one time having a list of items.

Did you contact them, and have them give it to you for the lower price? Newbury seems to have excellent customer service, and I would think they would have taken care of this for you.

of course..they refused.said they reserved the right to change the price or some bull crap like that
All they could do was to cancel the sale for me

I too ordered the "Ultimate Superman Collection" (for $19.69 because of the thread in "DVD Bargains"). Note the sidebar and you'll see that I'm in Japan. They mailed it out practically immediately and I received it within 10 days of my order. I was very pleased, especially considering that so many sellers won't bother with the hassle of international orders and very often those who will deal with international orders really rip us off on the shipping charges. Newbury charged me $12.29 for shipping - a fair price!

They have their own website http://newburycomics.com, but I can't find any of the items from Amazon.com marketplace on their website.

That's unfortunate, Deke. A less flagrant hit or miss pricing problem casual shoppers might not be aware of in the B&M stores relates to new versus used. Some times the new version of an identical title will be marked down lower than the used title; the latter obviously and commonly lower priced than the new. Strange practice but it happens frequently.

No real reason to ask for price matching, but I still wonder why they do this. With the markup they get on used stuff I can't imagine why an equivalent drop won't make up for the huge loss on the drop of a new title price. Whatever really ...just something to keep the eyes open for.

The economy must be hitting them hard. Their legendary service has declined in the past six months or so in multiple dimensions. They used to be my number one option on the Amazon marketplace. Fast, efficient service and the item was always in flawless condition. Not anymore based off my recent experience. Items that used to be shipped and delivered within three days now take weeks. It has happened to me on multiple and distinct orders, so it is not an isolated problem on one specific item. Their used stuff is also being graded differently than it has in the past.

I would still consider them a respectable seller, but clearly not worth seeking out anymore unless they are pricing an item significantly below the market.

That's strange...I've placed five orders from them on Amazon Marketplace, including two in the last month. Got the usual lightning-fast shipping from them, and received the items in perfect condition for a ridiculously low price.

I'll watch their feedback carefully. Hopefully a decline isn't starting.

I ordered a boxset from them that they described as very good and it was missing some contents and was in bad condition.
