I'm having a weird problem. It seems like almost every DVD from Magnolia does not show a picture when I play it in my relatively new JVC player (prog scan, upscaling, non-blu) but they play fine in my several-years-old Toshiba player (prog scan, non-upscaling). (I move cables and hook them both to my Toshiba widescreen rear projection TV, so the only variable left is the player.) I don't have this problem with anything other than Magnolia company DVDs. At first it was mostly Netflix movies where I noticed it, but this weekend I noticed the same thing with "Let the Right One In".
Has anyone else noticed anything like this? Does Magnolia use some different encoding variant or some protection scheme that might be flaky?

I used to repair JVC DVD players & recorders and after we fixed a unit we had to run updates for different problems. One of them was for Sony discs not playing in JVC units so maybe their is an update for Magnolia discs or they might not even know their's a problem with them.
When I worked in the JVC Customer Service dept. I would be on this board and others, like Videohelp.com, & as soon as I saw a JVC problem I would report it and we would start working on getting the information to the engineers. Now that the customer service dept. is down in Texas and they have mostly temp help that comes across the border I doubt they're on top of things like they were then. I would suggest giving them a call to let them know and see if the have an update to solve the problem.
