I got some new speaks and need some 'best of' CDs for Jazz, classical, etc. I'm not looking for Amazon deal-of-the-day mp3 downloads, I want CD quality sound. There are a ton of compilations out there, so I just need a few suggestions so I can listen to them and narrow down what I like to make recommendations based on that easier.

I like the Ocean's 11/12/13 soundtracks, too, if there are any suggestions for music like that.

Do you have SACD capabilities? Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs have done several excellent SACD's of several classic pieces and jazz albums. List is here: http://www.mofi.com/productcart/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=2

They also have several gold CDs and vinyl reissues that may interest you. Audiophile quality sound.

If that's a little too rich for your blood, I suggest checking out the company Naxos. They do budget line classical CDs that are of very good quality for the price.

No, I'm using a Blu-Ray player and a PC for CD/.wav files.

If you are serious about sampling what classical music has to offer, I would suggest the "Norton Recorded Anthology of Western Music, vol. 1&2".

Even though it's out of print, I would recommend tracking down a copy of the "Smithsonian Collection of Classic Jazz', which is the best overview you will find.

It doesn't get any finer than this:

http://www.amazon.com/Great-Summit-Master-Takes/dp/B00005614N/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1257232075&sr=8-1

Two giants that basically shaped Jazz and made it a true American art form. This is a historical match-up and an unbelievably clean, detailed recording from 1961. A must have in any collection and great to listen to on a great system.

I previewed a few tracks, I'll pick one up. I found a pretty cool sampler, too:

Beethoven at Bedtime (http://www.amazon.com/Beethoven-Bedtime-Gentle-Prelude-Sleep/dp/B0000041CN/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1257232868&sr=8-1)

For me, that kind of CD will be good for cooking/dinner music, holiday background music and maybe even at bedtime.
