According to Deadline.com -- so much for some saying "This Is It" would do "Titanic" numbers.... Not that most imagined that really. Still it's basically free money for the Jacko estate, isn't it?
Estimates:
1. This Is It (Sony) New $7.5M Fri [3,481 runs] $20M Wkd 5 1/2-day $31.5M
2. Paranormal Activity (Paramount) Week 6 $6M Fri [2,404] $16M Wkd
3. Couples Retreat (Universal) Week 5 $2.4M Fri [3,026] $6.8M Wkd
4. Law Abiding Citizen (Overture) Week 4 $2.4M Fri [2,764] $6.6M Wkd
5. Where The Wild Things Are (WB) Week 3 $1.9M Fri [3,645] $7.0M
6. Saw VI (Lionsgate) $1.9M Fri (-73%) [3,036] $5M Wkd
7. The Stepfather (Sony) $1.1M Fri (-47%) $3.5M Wkd
8. Astro Boy (Imagi/Summit) $1.0M Fri (-42%) [3,020] $4M Wkd
9. The Vampire's Assistant (Uni) $1.0M Fri (-55%) [2,754] $3M Wkd
10. Amelia (Fox Searchlight) $900K Fri (-36%) [1,070] $2.7M Wkd
I really hoped Where the Wild Things Are would be doing better.

I guess Sony paid them 50 or 60mill for the footage, so the box office take is Sony's. Prob make 50mill here, 100 overseas.... still good for a documentary.

Why is everyone surprised with Saw?
What is the last horror franchise to have a Part 6 that did really well compared to what its previous installments made? I'm honestly shocked that Part 5 made as much as it did. With the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street Series, both of their Part 5s were where their box office started taking a dip.

Because the other ones all performed similarly. I think a small drop was expected since Saw V saw a dip, but I don't think anyone expected this bad. I think Paranormal Activity really helped.

Gee, thanks. I don't go see the movies I'm not interested in. But I'm tired of the Hollywood assembly line. Here another enstallment is already in the works even before they knew if the most recent one would be a hit. Which it is not. Not sure if it's going to make a profit since I have no idea what the budget is. But it will be the lowest grossing chapter in the series.

You can voice your dislike for a movie or series without insulting those who enjoy the series. Comments like that are senseless, like those that week in and out continue to cite the state of the movie going public because another Tyler Perry movie is #1. And with budgets of only 10 million, it's going to make money regardless of this grossing the lowest of the series. Sorry, but I guess you're just going to have to complain for a few more years.

Best advice. Avoid it. Funny enough I haven't been stuck watching a movie of a franchise I didn't like.
Besides that, why would another movie in the FRANCHISE piss you off so much? It's a Halloween tradition to some, get that stick out of your ass. It's dirt cheap and they turn a profit, no matter how much they sink from week to week.
Besides that, horror movies in general are films no critic can really sink. No matter how bad it may be, people will watch it that have stuck with seeing them.
While you may not like it, much like a burger king burger, it may not be healthy but it's something those who want a cheap meal can get.
On a related note, glad that MJ-Porn didn't do gangbusters or anything.

Jesus, people. The Deal with it at the end of NickCrush's post seemed a jibe, I reacted. Not a big deal. In regards to Boondock Saints II, Sony only released advertising material less than a month ago. Nobody knew what kind of theatrical release it was getting until a week and a half ago.
If it opened on 500 locations this weekend and maintained the same PSA, it would've pulled in a $3-4 million opening weekend. Not impressive, but for a sequel to a film that got a one week release in 5 theaters a decade ago? I could see Sony expanding it into a few more markets, but not many. Too bad Black Dynamite dropped like a fucking rock in it's second weekend of release. :(

Sure, if you're subscribing to the idea that just because you don't care for a movie the people that do have bad taste. Meanwhile, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day debuted at 68 sites and delivered a modest estimated $462,000. A recent interview I read with Eduardo Sanchez said that with post-production work and additional tweaking, the final budget of BWP was closer to $500-750k. That quite a big leap from the $60k everyone thinks it was.
