Sony has released the street date to the Jean Claude Van Damme/Dolph Lundgren reunion, The film itself was considered for a possible theatrical release after some very good reviews at film festivals. TimeCop/Sudden Death director Peter Hyams shot the photography for the film while his son, John Hyams directs.

The following content was provided by the publisher.

A deranged Chechen nationalist named Basayev has taken control of Chernobyl, site of the infamous nuclear disaster, and threatens to release radioactive clouds unless his blackmail demands are met. Luc Devereaux (Jean Claude Van Damme) joins a group of re-animated soldiers held in a secret army installation. Their mission: to take back Chernobyl and disarm the explosives set to release the radioactive clouds. Devereaux is however surprised to find that one of the soldiers is a clone of his former sergeant, Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren), who has no recollection of him. The two soldiers are however captured by Basayev's troops and using mind control technology Basayev turns the two soldiers against each other. Wounded and isolated Devereaux must fight Andrew to save the world from cataclysmic ruin.

That's right, "Command Performance" comes out next week, "US3" in Jan/Feb, "Icarus" sometime after that and "The Expendables" hits theaters in Aug!!!

Van Damme has "The Eagle Path" (No US Distributor yet but the film is in the can) and "Karate aka The Pit Bull"l some time at the end of the year.

Wasn't there a DTV Universal Soldier 3 released in the late 90's?

isn't this part 4?

Nope. This series got a bit convoluted in terms of sequels. In 1998, there were two made for tv sequels titled Universal Soldier II: Brothers in Arms and Universal Soldier III: Unfinished Business. In 1999, the "official" sequel came out theatrically. Universal Soldier: The Return had Van Damme whereas the others didn't. So, this is the third of the Van Damme movies and 5th overall.

I was at Blockbuster a while back and spotted "Universal Soldiers", a shitty ripoff. I also spotted "Transmorphers" LOL!

I really liked the original UniSol. Its still holds up pretty well.

YAY! Another Universal Solder 3! Yea... I'm sorry but that title has already been taken. Whether the original 2 & 3 count or not, do not reuse a title. This crap gets way too annoying. Fit it wherever you want in the "timeline" but just don't call it by a name already used in the damn "series"!
Wanna see something funny on this topic? AVGN does a whole rant about it... http://www.screwattack.com/AVGN/2006/Sequels

Thank god! I guess Sony woke up and finally realized that there was already a Universal Solder 3 and that The Next Generation should only be used for Star Trek. This is a much better title!

Didn't I hear that Van Damme and Lundgren will only appear in about 20-30 mins of the movie?

/\ Not sure about Van Damme, but I did read somewhere that Dolph's role wasn't a large one.

 for the new title!

Didn't I hear that Van Damme and Lundgren will only appear in about 20-30 mins of the movie?

Jean Claude IS the star of the film, the film starts with a big car chase and the Andrei Arlovski's character taking over Chernobyl, Jean-Claude's character shows up 20 minutes into the film and then he takes over the film. Sadly its Dolph that is not in the movie that much until the last quarter of the film and then the big fight between Jean-Claude and Dolph.

From the reviews I have read, its that the film was way better than Sony Pictures anticipated and that it is a sub par straight to DVD effort.

Here is the synopsis:
When a team of former Soviet radicals seizes Chernobyl and threatens to unleash a lethal cloud of radioactive gas one hundred times deadlier than Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined, the US military brings in a bio-mechanically enhanced super soldier, Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme), to foil the plot.

As Deveraux fights his way into the plant, he faces off with his now revived former nemesis, Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren), and a newly ‘updated’ Next Generation Unisol (former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski), in a battle of battles, and must save the day.

So much for the proposed 'theatrical' release in February...
