Wow, all I've ever seen at my local Dollar Tree are public domain crap, oh, and anime...not interested in either. Gonna have to check it out again, were they in a special display or mixed in with the old junk?

Wow - Dollar Tree may be come the new Big Lots!!! (Many of those titles have been in the $3 BL bin).

Like supermike07, I've rarely seen anything at DT beyond public domain stuff though last year they had a handful of music DVDs - Shania Twain, Janet Jackson, Johnny Cash, Jewel, a few others - but they had the same ones at every store. I definately will be hitting DT every few days in search of this sale!

It is the end of the year...chances are you will see a fair amount of MGM everywhere as they try and bring their taxable inventory down/4th quarter profits up.

I think you will see better releases than this stuff too....though this is damn good at 1$.

Haven't been to mine in such a long time.

They had a very tiny selection and worse yet... they have the movies postioned right next to the exhaust of their Coke mini frig. Hot air blowing over the DVDs 27/7. I didn't even bother with the ones close to the vents.

I did however pick up "The Kentuckian", it scratched. But it's a dollar. If I like I'll pursue it mint later.

Usually my DT has public domain crap, but I was in there recently and they had CDs from Barenaked Ladies, Phish, and a slew of Tony Orlando and Dawn [blushes] special editions. Bought 'em all. Usually it's off label classical music or kid songs.

I hope these MGM titles show up too! Last time I looked the DVDs were public domain crap. I don't remember those music DVDs being at my DT either though.

It's those extra 3 hours that cause the most damage. ;)

I've picked up several books at the Dollar Tree store in recent months. I haven't been in a few weeks, but now I'll have to make the occasional stop.

I just visited 2 Dollar Trees south of Boston and Nada for DVDs in fact the cashier told me she knew that the other 3 stores in the area didn't carry DVDs either!...so YMMV.

Checked the store on Burnet Rd in Austin - nothing but a few PD titles. Thanks for the heads-up, though, it's worth a stop if I'm passing by.

My Dollar Tree had many copies of:

Smooth Talk
Barbershop 2
A Guy Thing
Madison
Thunderbird 6
Dance with Lisa: Red Hot Salsa Made Simple
Hello Kitty

And then there were many other movies, mostly from the early 80s, that they only had 1 or 2 copies.

Thanks for the heads up here. Just checked a Dollar Tree and saw a bunch. I picked up some copies of movies that I didn't want to pay $3 for at Big Lots:

Hi Mom
That Championship Season
Bad Influence
Be Cool
Bandits
De-Lovely

Also saw both copies of Barbershop, though only 1 Barbershop, but plenty of Barbershop 2. Lots of BL titles there as well.

bandits is not a great film, but certainly not bad, quite entertaining. de-lovely on the other hand, is very good, its the biography of cole porter, one of the greatest songwriters of the early 20th century.

Nothing at my store here in Thomasville, GA. This reminds me of searching Dollar Tree stores for the music DVDs a while back. I finally managed to find some at one of the locations in Tallahassee, FL. None of the other stores in Tallahassee had any at all. So I wonder if they are selective about what stores get certain items.

I'd advise checking every few days - my local DT didn't have them earlier this week at the start of the thread but I went there tonight and there were approximately 100 dvds so they were likely just put out today.

I bought
Fuzz - Raquel Welch
Daddy's Dyin' Whos Got the Will - Beverly D'Angelo
Love Field - Michelle Pfeiffer
Smooth Talk - Laura Dern
Hello Kitty Goes to the Movies
Illegally Yours - Rob Lowe
Solarbabies - Jason Patric

Saw - (several copies) Barbershop 2, Delovely, A Guy Thing, Thunderbird 6, Madison, A Guy Thing, Dance With Lisa

Emperor's New Clothes w/ Sid Caesar, Kart Racer, a John Larroquette/Lesley Ann Warren movie, a Michael Caine war film, a John Corbett romantic comedy, an early Dennis Quaid movie

Want to add half were near the register, half were with "electronics" near the p.d. ones, dvd empty cases, etc. The ones I listed with several copies dominated, the rest had only 1 or 2 copies.

I hit up the store in La Habra and they had a decent size display. I ended up grabbing the following:

http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/764/dollartree02.jpg

I was also totally psyched to find this title:

http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/4472/dollartree04.jpg

I got so excited that I started to jump up and down and shout: "Oh man, oh god! Oh man, oh god! Oh man, oh god! Oh man, oh god! Oh man, oh god!!!"

Hit up one of the two Dollar Tree stores in town today. I didn't see any DVD's so I asked the manager on duty and she said, "Oh, I'm glad you reminded me! We have two boxes that just came in." So she grabbed them from the office for me and let me go through them. They were small boxes and a few were already missing from each box, which probably means the employees were getting first dibs. I picked up:

Bad Influence (Rob Lowe & James Spader)
Kansas (Matt Dillon & Andrew McCarthy)
The Rachel Papers
Nobody's Fool

I'll probably hit up the other store later this week.

For some reason they were all just sitting in a box by the cash register.

Hit the four stores in the next town today and all of them had them in smallish quantities.

Store #1 had around two dozen mixed in with their p.d. crap - I suspect they didn't put everything out and just opened up these two boxes and stuffed 'em in there. The only dvd bought here was
PIECES OF APRIL - Katie Holmes

Store #2 seemed to have the same amount and as always the same titles over and over.

Store #3 is kind of a junkier DT - they just opened up the boxes of 15 dvds and stuck all seven of them on the floor by the pd stuff. Less than two boxes worth were sold when I got there. Here I bought
NOBODYS FOOL - Rosanna Arquette
NOBODYS PERFECT - Chad Lowe
HEART OF DIXIE - Virginia Madsen

Store #4 was the smallest and when I saw they didn't even carry pd titles and a lot of regular stuff at DT I wasn't expecting to find them but there on an endcap by the registers there they were and the best titles yet in besides the ones at every store:

BE COOL - John Travolta
BABY BOOM - Diane Keaton
THE WILBY CONSPIRACY - Sidney Poitier
THE YOUNG IN HEART - Janet Gaynor
NEVER LET GO - Peter Sellers
JACK AND THE GIANT KILLER - Kerwin Matthews
THE GIRL WITH GREEN EYES - Peter Finch

I't appears each store may get about 100 copies and at least 70 percent of them you are going to find at every store: DELOVELY, BARBERSHOP 2, MADISON, A GUY THING and a couple others in large quantities.

Can anyone confirm seeing these in any of the N.J. Dollar Trees? I hit 4 of them today and there wasn't one MGM to be seen (and the workers there had no idea what I was referring to). The stores I hit were Clifton (2), Fairview, & E. Rutherford.

Stonebrook
De-Lovely

Success! I checked out my nearest Dollar Tree and there was one box of DVDs at the end (beginning?) of every checkout line. I got "Be Cool" and the 1967 Sonny and Cher movie "Good Times" which I saw on TV back in the 70's and remembered as being pretty silly even then, like an episode of the Monkees. I was surprised to see it was directed by William Friedkin, so it was a must buy. Cheaper than renting. I'd love to find "Tough Guys Don't Dance". Thanks OP!

You're right cinemaphile, I think he misread my post, I didn't see SAW, I saw the movies I mentioned after that saying "saw" :) although it did cross my mind after reading the post someone might easily think I had seen SAW.

Also want to point out I bought THE YOUNG IN HEART which is a different movie than YOUNG AT HEART which you list. The one at DT is the 1938 comedy with Janet Gaynor, Douglas Fairbanks Jr, and Paulette Goddard and I believe is the only pre-1950 "classic" to show up in this sale to date.

So waitaminute, you didn't see Saw? What you saw were the movies you saw after you said you saw Saw, but you didn't see Saw even though someone thought you saw Saw, because it looked like you saw Saw, but you meant that you didn't see Saw, but you saw movies other than Saw and not Saw itself?

Got them to open boxes at two of them (so I got the pick of the litter). and I think I was the first on the third -- as I was going in a stocker was going to lunch and (I guess my reputation precedes me) -- he informed me that there were a bunch of DVDs that he just put out.

VERY hit-and-miss here (Sacramento, CA)- last week I checked 3 stores, one had a few though they were going fast (one guy was walking out with a ton) and the other 2 had nothing. I got She's Gotta Have It (which has a MovieMoney ticket for What Happens In Vegas, rented that for free from Redbox a while ago) Saddest Music In The World and The Chateau- the last 2 I've turned down several times at Big Lots for $3 but $1 is my buy-anything point.

I checked all the stores in the area multiple times a few months ago when the Eagle Vision music discs were being reported, but never found a single one. I've seen MGM VHS tapes at Dollar Trees in the past, so possibly more of their stuff might show up occasionally.

Finally hit the jackpot today in north Jersey. 4 of 5 Dollar Trees I hit today had MGM's: East Rutherford, Fairview, Clifton (2), & Lodi. Lodi store had just put them on the floor and I had first pick. Here's what I grabbed:

Here's a short clip;

Not sure if the rest of the movie lives up to that quality, though.

Is this sale regional because I've stopped into two of my local Texas Dollar Trees and only find the public domain crap that I'm used to seeing. Maybe it's taking time to dribble this way?

I'm in Louisiana and I've seen some of these DVDs at eveyr DT although the quantities varied at each store. (I don't think any store ever had more than 100 pieces which is not that muchf or a store). I don't think this sale has ever made it into a DT flyer so it may not be at every store and it appears quite a few stores take their time putting out new stock as some members have finally found them weeks after they were first announced here.

It appears that about 10 titles - Madison, Delovely, A Guy Thing, Thunderbird 6, Barbershop 2, and a few others dominate this sale. Those movies are always at least half the quantity of the stuff on sale. Were these perhaps used in a Kelloggs or some other company's promotional giveaway at one point?

I found many titles listed on the master list. I'm still missing some, but I'm not finished looking. There are several DT in my location (Philly), so I have time and several location options. I found one title that doesn't appear to be on the master list of titles.

Hidden Agenda, with Brian Cox, Brad Dourif and Frances McDormand (1990). Need I say more? Very cool find for me.

Thanks for everyone who posted their finds throughout the weeks and the heads-up I've gotten about this sale.

Picked up Shalako. Saw quite a few on the list Ned Kelly, was almost sucked in by Love at Stake again, I love Barbara Carrerra but sold my laserdisc years ago because I didn't like the movie, but passed. I keep missing the day they put the shipments out.

Still haven't been able to find my #1 & #2. 1. Who'll Stop the Rain 2. Good Times

I've never seen Who'll stop the Rain, but have been intrigued since I saw the poster framed in Nick Nolte's Office in his home years ago. It was the only poster that I saw framed there. The artwork is really cool, I don't know why they didn't use it for the DVD cover.

Hit the DT's in the neighboring town yesterday; the biggest BL stil has not gotten around to putting them out, they still had the same handful from before MADISON, KART RACER, etc. mixed in with their pd junk; BL #2 had a smallish new shipment but nothing of interest; BL #3 had a huge new shipment but nearly everything was multiples of familiar titles, the only thing I bought here was ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE; BL #4 the smallest one where I got the best titles last time had basically the same stock as #3 with the exception of SHALAKO which I bought and finally my local BL had a modest number of new copies but again the same stuff as before with a few exceptions. The only thing I bought was ROMANTIC COMEDY.

Never saw THE AVIATOR before locally but everyone had it in surplus this time around; other titles I saw for the first time locally included BILLION DOLLAR HOBO, BUSH CHRISTMAS, SINBAD, SOMETHING SHORT OF PARADISE.

It's kind of amazing the BL hoarders of the past aren't wiping out DT but then with most of these movies are rather obscure plus the fact many of those BL hoarders probably discovered just how hard it is to resell DVDs at a profit.

How many stores have you hit if you've bought 91 titles in this sale? I shop at five and if I'd bought every different title I've seen I don't think it would be but around 40-50 - in every store I've seen at least 85 percent of their stock is the same 5-10 titles - some stores maybe a dozen copies or more of something like MADISON - and the remaining 15 percent are singles or 2-3 copies.

To date I've bought 20 dvds in this sale and from the master list have seen 41 of the titles on it that I recall.

Also add to the list COPS AND ROBBERS, I saw it at two stores yesterday.

The two I tried in the Seattle area had exactly none of these. Sigh.

Andover Shoppes... Lexington, KY. Big selection at that location. Picked up...

21 Hours at Munich
Wild Bill
Warm Summer Rain
Prick up Your Ears
Manic
Hidden Agenda
S.F.W.

I didn't notice S.F.W. on the master list... That, or I'm blind.

Anyhoo... There's another Dollar Tree down the street from one of the Big Lots here. I'll check there the next time that I stop at that store.

abintra, thank you. your breakdown is very helpful.

Is anyone interested in trades? I didn't see a thread in the exchange area. I have picked up about 15 of these titles and have access to another 30 or so. I really want 2 copies of Solarbabies.

Neither of the two stores here has had a restock and they are down to less than a dozen DVD's at each store. I grabbed Attention Shoppers...never seen it, but it has Kathy Najimy in it, so SOLD!

I went back today and bought..

Prick Up Your Ears
Some Girls
Breaking In
Making The Grade

I saw Kill Me Again and would've bought this however even for $1 it's not worth it because it's fullscreen. Fullscreen isn't worth a dime to me.
