the most pathetic part is the lame ass apology with about 4 people probably still watching the game with 10 seconds left. That was even less sincere than the standard "I apologize if I offended anybody" line that people usually use.
My favorite "Bob Griese is probably a dick" story is one told by his son, Brian. They filmed some of the scenes from the early parts of "There's Something About Mary" in Griese's neighborhood. While on the set, Cameron Diaz had to go pee, so she ran to the closest house and knocked on the door. Griese answers, she says who she is and asks to use the bathroom, he says no and shuts the door in her face.

Wait, so the fact that she's Cameron Diaz is supposed to affect in some manner whether someone will allow them into their home to use the bathroom? Hell, if a stranger were to come to my door I'm uncertain I'd be any more or less willing to let them in regardless of whether they were a well-known and famous stranger or not. Poor planning on their part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Griese might be a dick, but not letting someone into your home because they claim they have to pee isn't an accurate measure of his dicktitude, and reacting the same way to a "famous" person is even less a measure - if anything, it's a measure of his consistency.
BTW - she "asked" to use the bathroom. That implies that she acknowledged that Griese had the option to say yes or no. He said no. Big deal.

I was watching this game and heard the initial comment live. I'll admit that it did perk up my ears. I didn't think about it past a minute or so, but I did think it was uncalled for. It wasn't even funny, just unnecessary.
I wasn't offended, but then I'm not Latino, so what does it matter if I was offended? I'd say he probably had some sort of disciplinary action coming. Not sure if the punishment fits the crime here, but ... I can see where ESPN had to make a gesture here. It shouldn't have been said.

I was watching it live too being a Buckeye fan. I was in the kitchen but could still hear the TV and I couldn't believe he said it because it come out of nowhere and had nothing to do with auto racing. After I heard, I said he's going to get in trouble for that whether he meant it to be funny or not.
