Offer valid thru January?

Don't these other sales usually end before the semi-annual DD sale? Does this mean no sale in November?

With all the crabbing here I wouldn't be surprised.

The true sales do... This is another of their "non sales" where they just gather a assortment of similar titles meeting the "sale" criteria and put them up with a "sale" banner. Lots of people bite on these but those of us who watch prices closely see them for what they are. Retail stores do this type thing all the time. Put a "sale" banner on something to increase sales. People see the "sale" banner and make the purchase thinking they are getting a bargain when it's really the everyday price (or at best a few cents off) with a sign. All the "valid through January" means is there should be no price increase on these titles until then... and probably not even then.

If you look at any DVD sold by DD, you'll see "Why pay $xx.xx?" followed by the DD price. The "Why pay" price is the MSRP, which is discounted by virtually every B&M or online retailer. The only question is how much. As long as DD offers their item for anything under the MSRP, it's technically a sale and legal.

I used to work for an electronics retailer (I won't name names) and we often had "99 cent" sales. We would take some item that had a good profit margin and that we had a bunch of in stock. If our regular price on the item was, say, $499.99, we would give it a prominent mention in our weekly sales flyer showing the "sale" price of $499.00. Since we were, technically, putting it on sale for 99 cents off, it was a legitimate sale, just not a very good one. However, we'd get a number of people to come in during the week to ask about the sale item, which we'd happily sell them for virtually full price.

With DVDs and any sort of merchandise, you have to know what's a good sale and what isn't. DD's real sales will end before their 25% off sale. If any of these titles interest you, wait until the sale to get them at a lower price.
