BUT - it appears that the older (larger size) package is what's on sale at this time. They're probably trying to get rid of the old packaging. If you search for "six feet under" and find the newer set you'll see that it was just released on Oct 6, 2009 and that there are only 5 left in stock and that the price of that one is $114.99.
Bummer! Shelf-space is at a real premium for me - wish I could get this new thinner version!!
WOW! When it was last on sale at Amazon (January 22nd; when I picked it up) it was $59.99!!!

I will wait for that new thinner version to go on sale. That huge box was just annoying imo. Amazing show though.

I could be wrong about this but I don't think the new packaging includes the two soundtracks which the collectible packaging did have.

An excellent series. Highly recommended viewing. One of the few series I've seen from start to finish that was near perfect from start to finish (along with The Shield).
But you should be able to hunt down a better deal with a little bit of patience.

I paid $59.99 for mine back in January. I'd gladly pay this price for it if I had to. Fantastic series, very highly recommended.

I paid over $100 a few years ago and it was worth it at that price too.

I paid $143.91 for it at the DDD sale in 2006. At least I watched the whole thing through two times since then, so I guess I got my money's worth.

I want this, but would rather wait for the slimmer pack to go on sale.
My shelf space is now at such a premium that it's worth paying extra or waiting for smaller packaging or compact box sets.

A couple of people have mentioned waiting for the slimmer pack to go on sale - it is on sale now, what I mean by that is that it is available to purchase. Although the officially announced release date was Nov 9 I guess that was changed because Amazon indicates that it was released on Oct 6 and they have it available for purchase.
Maybe you meant on sale at a discounted price and not on sale as in available for purchase??
on sale?
for sale?

On sale.
My reasoning for this:
1. Individual sets can be had for ~$16 a few times a year.
2. With five seasons of SFU, that comes out to $80.
3. So my buy price for the complete series is about $80 + $10 premium for a smaller size.
Edit: The physical size of the individual seasons is massive. I would just buy them all at Costco when they go on sale, but I don't have 18 inches of shelf space to devote to a single 5-season series. I think even my 10 seasons of SG-1 would take up less room than the 5 seasons of SFU.

I initially bought this series at the original pricing (which ended up north of $200), but in all honestly it was worth every penny. $88 is a steal.
