Music From The Elder, especially the track "Odyssey".

The first 3 albums are their best in my opinion. Then you have ALIVE which, studio processed or not, is a rock and roll legend. After those 4 the albums seemed to get a little too slick and polished although I enjoy quite a few of them.

Might I direct people to Here's a gargantuan Album by Album thread: KISS (http://forum.dvdtalk.com/music-talk/536970-heres-gargantuan-album-album-thread-kiss.html)? Trust me, the gang goes into GINORMOUS detail on each album. I miss that thread. I miss it more than my own family. :(

Plus a cameo shoutout reference to Adrienne Barbeau's boobs not once, not twice, but thrice!

Creatures of the Night. It's the only one I can imagine ever owning now and I used to own several of their albums in my younger days.

hahahahha =) you have to be a true kiss fan to get that. for better or worse...

Odyssey is the worst song on ever recorded on any KISS album. Absolutely horrendous.

But I still like "The Elder".

1. Revenge
2. KISS
3. Carnival Of Souls
4. Rock and Roll Over
5. Sonic Boom
6. Hotter Than Hell

So - Revenge, but not by much. Hell, it may as well be a tie - Revenge/KISS

But if you add in the ALIVE albums then ALIVE has to be at the top.

Revenge and Carnival of Souls are in your top 3?? I knew you were a crazy Kiss fan, but I never knew you were a crazy Kiss fan.

I'm constantly re-evaluating, but here's my overall list:

1. Alive!
2. Kiss
3. MTV Unplugged
4. Hotter Than Hell
5. Ace Frehley
6. Love Gun
7. Revenge
8. Creatures Of The Night
9. Paul Stanley
10. Alive III
11. Dressed To Kill
12. Destroyer
13. Rock And Roll Over
14. Sonic Boom
15. Lick It Up
16. Kiss Symphony
17. Dynasty
18. Unmasked
19. Carnival of Souls
20. Alive II
21. Music From The Elder
22. Animalize
23. Asylum
24. Gene Simmons
25. Crazy Nights
26. Psycho Circus
27. Hot In The Shade
28. Peter Criss

If you remove live albums and the 78 solo albums from the mix, my list would be:

1. Kiss
2. Hotter Than Hell
3. Love Gun
4. Revenge
5. Creatures Of The Night
6. Dressed To Kill
7. Destroyer
8. Rock And Roll Over
9. Sonic Boom
10. Lick It Up
11. Dynasty
12. Unmasked
13. Carnival of Souls
14. Music From The Elder

(the follow albums I *never* listen to. I might hear a single cut that i like on a box set or live album/bootleg, but they represent KISS at their most unlistenable)

15. Animalize
16. Asylum
17. Crazy Nights
18. Psycho Circus
19. Hot In The Shade

4. Love Gun
5. Kiss
6. Destroyer
7. Hotter Than Hell
8. Dynasty
9. Rock and Roll Over
10. Creatures of the Night

These are Crazy Crazy Nights...

But there's not really anything crazy about rating Revenge so highly - that album just smokes! Now, COS? For half of the KISS fans that may be crazy, but for the other half it makes perfect sense.

(By the way, my two least favorite KISS albums are Hot in the Shade and Crazy Nights, just for further context...)

As good as they are, I wouldn't count the live albums for the same reason I wouldn't count a "greatest hits" compilation, so they're out. Also, a bit of the same for (most of) the solo albums. That said, mine would be....

1. Kiss
2. Destroyer
3. Hotter Than Hell
4. Creatures Of The Night
5. Revenge
6. Rock And Roll Over
7. Love Gun
8. Sonic Boom
9. Dressed To Kill
10. Lick It Up

If you like those two, you might wanna give Unmasked a try. It's a lot in the same vein, although perhaps with even more of a early 80s pop sheen.

Hotter Than Hell. This was the first one I bought (in Dec. '74) so it will always have more sentimental value. Saw them live for the first time in Aug. '75 opening for Black Sabbath (w/ Ozzy) and they blew me away!

^ I was surprised and thrilled when they included it in the unplugged set.
