This special episode will showcase each of the dancers in their own style and genre and will feature group numbers choreographed by some of America’s favorite choreographers. Enjoyed the Mandy Moore number, though Billy is going to have problems with female dancers his own size if he has to throw them around or do lifts with them. (Update - Billy left the show due to illness. Poop.)
Tap is little exhausting to watch and Nigel was right about it being an uphill journey for them.
The Jazz trio was odd, mainly due to the size differential between Pauline and the other two, Elinor and Mollie.
I think Legacy was running out of gas in the hip-hop routine, which was not all that memorable.
The Tice contemporary did a better job at highlighting the dancers, better than Mandy's, but Mandy's was better choreographed.
The Latin trio was a strong finish to a good intro show.

I was expecting 20 solos, -and I really get tired of their solos, -so the special was much better than I expected.
I really enjoyed the Wade Robson piece, as I like a little more structure in a routine. I also enjoyed the Hip Hop, Tap and Ballroom numbers. Tice's routine seemed more like loosely choreographed histrionics.
Sonya's routine was definitely "Sonya", though it played a little too close to her "Super-Heroine" number from last season. And really, -any sexiness that was there, -at least for me, -was killed by the tutus they were wearing.

Here's the full story:
This is Brandon...
Billy Bell drops out of 'So You Think You Can Dance'

Top 20 finalist Billy Bell, 19, is a Contemporary dancer from West Palm Beach, FL. (Joe Viles/FOX)
We're not even fully recovered from last week's news that our favorite "So You Think You Can Dance" judge/choreographer, the amazing Emmy Award-winning Mia Michaels, has left the show, and now there's another "SYTYCD" bummer.
The show's Top 20 perform for the first time tonight (7 p.m. Fox), but there's one guy who won't be up on stage. Contemporary dancer Billy Bell had to drop out of the competition due to illness, according to a Fox press release. For "SYTYCD" fans, you'll remember Bell as the dancer who took an elbow to the nose while dancing with his partner during auditions. But more importantly, he's the guy who had judge Adam Shankman in tears after he performed a stunning solo that certainly helped him score a spot in the Top 20. Hip-hop dancer Brandon Dumlao will replace Bell. — Amy Carlson Gustafson

He's got one huge advantage - he's not a tap dancer. Unless those tap dancers have a lot of talent in other areas or charisma that I haven't seen, cannon fodder.
And at the end of tonight's show two people will be cut by the judges, there is no results show until the third week if I remember right. But anyway, the judges aren't going to let somebody onto the show and then cut them in Week 1, Brandon will survive this week.
I also agree that tutus should be banned, really distracting.
Karen Hauer was the latin dancer at the end, good job dancing with a married couple which had to be awkward.

For some reason my DVR didn't record this. I guess it's not the actual performance show, so there's probably not a really huge need to go back and find it.
I didn't know that Mia Michaels had dropped out of the show. That's really disappointing. I know some people around here don't like her, but I usually enjoyed her routines. Sad to see that guy had to drop out because of health problems.
