Baseball analyst Steve Phillips has been fired by ESPN after admitting to an affair with an assistant at the cable network.
ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said Sunday night the network determined Phillips' ability to be an effective analyst was "significantly and irreparably damaged."
Phillips took a leave of absence Wednesday after acknowledging the affair with 22-year-old production assistant Brooke Hundley.
According to a police report filed in Wilton, Conn., Hundley began calling Phillips' wife, Marni, on Aug. 5 and sent her a letter graphically describing their relationship and Phillips' birthmarks after he broke off the affair.
Prior to coming to ESPN, Phillips was general manager of the New York Mets from 1997 to 2003.
Correct move by ESPN. I had feared that any future telecasts involving Phillips would cause me to reflect on his inappropriate relationship with a stormtrooper.

It will be interesting to see if MLB Network, TBS or Fox Sports eventually picks him up to do analyst work. After all, Harrold Reynolds was fired by ESPN and is now working for MLB Network as an analyst.

The problem is that he also had numerous affairs when he was a Mets GM according to the NY Post report. BTW, the Post also has the letter that the assistant sent to his wife.
The Phillips live in town. I have not met the wife (Marni) but by all accounts is that she is lovely, quick with a smile and personable. This poor woman (twice) has had to deal with camera crews on her street, the whole town knowing the intensely personal and the fallout and its effect on their kids.

Actually Steve Phillips' wife is smoking hot from what I hear. I'm glad they fired him. After the debacle with Harold Reynolds, nobody should get a free pass.

my guess, given the fact that she seems to be a psycho, is that she probably was a complete freak in the bed. He has a reportedly good looking wife, so he was probably looking for "attitude over appearance" as the saying goes.
