I was hoping some could provide some suggestions on the must have Wii games. I haven't been keeping up with video games for a few years, but decided I'm going to finally pick myself up a Wii mainly because I want to get either Rock Band or Guitar Hero and likely DJ hero.

I know everybody's likes are different but was hoping to have a list of must have games to review and decide which would prob matchup to my likes.

Thanks for the help.

I don't want to come across as bashing the Wii, but why not get a PS3 or Xbox 360?

must have games for the wii are in this order

1: Super Mario Galaxy

2: Metroid Prime Trilogy

3: Legend of Zelda Twilight (though you might already have this one for the Game Cube)

yeah, any discussion about must haves for Wii starts and ends with Zelda and Mario.

Got to admit if all you wanted was to play the Hero games a ps3 would be better choice. I don't think you can buy songs on the wii and if you can where are you store them. The wii's storage is really small.

But anyway must haves
1. Super Mario Galaxy
2. House of the dead overkill
3. Will Sports Resort = The sword game is the best
4. Excitbots or Super Mario Kart Wii
5. Okami if you didn't play it on ps2
6. Animal Crossing City Folk if you didn't play the DS version
7. Super Smash Bros Brawl = I really liked it but many don't

Monster Hunter Tri comes out this year which will probably be a dead one buy for me if it doesn't have a monthly fee. The new super mario bros game that has four player co-op is said to be good. Some people think the wii has the best version of ghost busters. That game is completely different from the ps3 and xbox versions.

Plus, the 360 has Rock Band Nation, which will open up more songs. I would seriously consider 360 or PS3 for Rock Band. You can't export the songs from the first game to storage either. Nintendo doesn't allow patches, so you wouldn't get the recent update for RB2 either. (Even though those of us with PS3 are still waiting, we'll get it eventually.)

Another minor point to consider with these specific games (RB/GH) is the cost of DLC (if you are planning to buy extra songs obviously).....the Wii does not offer any "track pack" discounts, as each individual song must be purchased separately for $2 each....with PS3 and 360, three packs for artists or full albums are discounted anywhere from $0.50 to several dollars less than buying them individually....it may not seem like that much at first, but over time if you buy enough DLC, it could really add up....

seriously, from the owner of a Wii and 2 360's... for the games you stated, buy a 360. If you want blu ray as well, get a PS3.

I would not buy a wii for the games you mentioned.

I'll give you Mario, but Zelda was probably the worst Zelda to date and wouldn't even crack my top 10 Wii games list. If I could come up with a top 25 I doubt it would make that list either.

1. Super Mario Galaxy
2. Rock Band
3. Okami
4. Boom Blox: Bash Party / Boom Blox 1
5. Metroid Prime Trilogy
6. Wii Sports Resort
7. Pikmin
8. ExciteBots / Excite Truck
9. Mario Kart Wii
10. (placeholder) New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Runners up
11. Zack & Wiki
12. MadWorld
13. Resident Evil 4
14. Punch-Out
15. Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga

As mentioned though, if you are mostly getting a system for Rock Band and/or Guitar Hero, the Wii is the wrong system to get. If you are leaning more towards Rock Band then the 360 would be the clear choice with Harmonix supporting MS more(Rock Band network)than Sony at this point.

Two games that have yet to be mentioned:

Muramasa the demon blade

Klonoa

Klonoa can be beat in about 3 hours. Great game, but it's more of a rental.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.

In addition to those games I really like the niche controls of the wii. I will likely play this a few hours a week max, so I just want something sorta different othrwise I would totally probably but a PS3 or Xbox.

I'll be sure to check out some of the recommendations here...

Must have Wii Games? Hmm... :)

I guess Mario Galaxy if you liked Mario 64, or Mario generally. RE4 is the best version of that game. If you like light gun style games you're spoiled for choice. Dip into either of the HoTD games, or RE: Umbrella Chronicles if you're an RE fan. Also, Dead Space is meant to be awesome.

I've only played about the first two hours, but I'd highly recommend Dead Space if you're thinking about either a rails shooter or more adult type of game. I'd easily put it over RE: Umbrella Chronicles, either of the House of the Dead titles, No More Heroes or Madworld.

Williams Pinball collection, Ghost Squad and House of the Dead and Blastworks. And maybe Samurai Showdown collection, although it's alot harder than I remember as a teenager.

I noticed that Gamestop is offering multi-colored 'classic' controllers to play the new Mario game.

i don't necessarily agree with that. i thought the controls were very well done for RE4, Zelda and Super Mario Galaxy.

I don't agree with the statement either. While I don't want every game to have motion control, there are games that (like those mentioned, and Metroid, and others) that I wouldn't go back to old controls.

FOr me, many of the must haves have been mentioned. However, I've been on a buying freeze for months now with all systems, so I'm not up to date on anything recent.
