Based on those H2H standings, the Angels have proven they can beat the Yankees 3 times in a row.

^ yes, but those 3 were a sweep in Angel Stadium and prior to all-star break. little different story for Yanks after break and @ home.

Haven't we already learned our lesson about premature celebration.

I won't be upset if the Yanks end up winning, but I'd love for the Angels to take game 6 and cause a little NY anxiety.

Huge advantage for the Phillies if this goes to game 7. Sabathia or Lackey will not be available for game 1. The best is game 2 on 3 days rest. I hope the Yanks can close the series tomorrow.

I don't think either of them could possibly go in Game 2 if this thing goes 7 -- it's really 2 days rest, not 3. If this goes to 7 and the Yankees win, they're probably forced into going Burnett in game 1 and Gaudin in game 2.

Come on WS on Thanksgiving!! :)

Rumor has it for maximum TV dollars Bud Selig will have Game 1 and 2 of the WS will be on the Thursday and Friday Night of Thanksgiving Weekend, and then Game 3 and 4 will be Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, then games 5, 6, and 7 will be New Years Weekend.

CC can then still pitch games 1,4,7 if the Yanks make it;)

I agree, but it's not like the Yankees have been immune to the boneheaded plays on the bases. There's been a lot of sloppy play this postseason by most of the teams involved.

huh?

McCarver just said Oliver is wearing earplugs, then they zoom right onto his face and you can't see shit in his ears.

Anyway, Oliver is pitching great. He's really keeping the Yankee hitters off balance. Onto the top of the 6th.

I think that's why he swings so much, and that's why pitchers can get him to swing at balls way outside. He has a killer reach, though. If he connects, he can drive it.

Someone was mentioning the other day they had a normal strike zone that most hitters look at and then there's the "Vladdy Zone" which is like 3 times the size. I'd love to see that graphic. It works for him though, so I can't see him changing especially at his age. I still kick myself that the Yanks didn't sign him and instead chose to sign Gary Sheffield. Cashman wanted Vladdy, but King George wanted Shef.

VinVega
10-25-09, 10:58 PM

10-25-09, 11:01 PM
I can't say I'd be bummed if the Angels lose. I expected it, and if they do lose, my picks for the playoffs sans the Boston-Angels series were spot on so far.

Besides, the Lakers open the season on Tuesday. Nothing like going from losing in the playoffs with the Angels to seeing a team get it's championship rings two nights later

cardsfan111
10-25-09, 11:04 PM
So, I'm intentionally getting ahead of things....if the Yanks close this out tonight, who's the LCS MVP? A-Rod? Sabathia? Tim McClelland? Kidding on the last one, of course.

nickdawgy
10-25-09, 11:04 PM
I guess it's safe to say barring a miracle, A-Roid gets the MVP? What a turnaround for him. He is known for his suck factor in the playoffs, admits he doped up, and then goes on a tear after he (allegedly?) quits.

nickdawgy
10-25-09, 11:05 PM
So, I'm intentionally getting ahead of things....if the Yanks close this out tonight, who's the LCS MVP? A-Rod? Sabathia? Tim McClelland? Kidding on the last one, of course.

I think A-Roid easily. His game tying homer really took the morale out of the Angels, and he went from a sure out to a threat when he steps to the plate.

zuffy
10-25-09, 11:06 PM
I should had switch over to the OTA tuner sooner. No more friggin hiccups here and there with the DISH tuners.

zuffy
10-25-09, 11:08 PM
I would give it to A-Rod. While Sabathia pitched great, A-Rod is there for every games helping the Yanks.

VinVega
10-25-09, 11:08 PM
Posada hits into another double play.

Just once in a while I wish the Yanks would part form the Earl Weaver school of baseball (which is to sit back and wait for the 3 run HR) and hit and run or do some things to move the runners around. If that was a hit and run, A-Rod makes it to 2nd with one out.

cardsfan111
10-25-09, 11:10 PM
I haven't caught enough games to see Morales play the field, but he's really flashed the leather tonight. That was a smooth double play and he's picked several throws out of the dirt tonight.

zuffy

Rivera wasn't hit hard by any means, but he gave up two bleeders and had another couple of balls that looked they could have been hits off the bat. Win or lose, I hope it can stay a 1-run game going to the 9th...love to see some more drama.

Don't know why the play with Cano is singled out as being extraordinary. He was shading Hunter toward second, more because of defensive positioning. Fielded a one hopper and threw to first. The bigger play was the diving stop and out from Tex.

Sabathia a worthy choice, but the voting for these awards is always a little fishy to me. I think MLB (Selig?) dictates things a bit. You can see the desire to give the award to someone other than A-Rod. When the Cards won in '06 and they gave the WS MVP to Eckstein despite a couple of others having better stats...almost like they wanted to give it to the "little guy" who hustles. Oh well, a couple of years go by and you forget who won the postseason MVPs.

After seeing Rivera give up a run on a bloop hit, a broken bat grounder to get the runner to 2nd, and a ball not hit that hard through the right side of the infield, I'm still absolutely stunned that Rivera has given up just 11ER in 126 postseason innings. When you think about the jam shots that drop in, it's amazing to think that he hasn't given up more 'cheap' runs.

As well as Sabathia pitched - ARod should have gotten the MVP... he had an impact on every game, hit over .400, had an OBP over .550, and had an RBI in every game but one. In the last 3 games he reached base an absurd 12 out of 14 times...

Do we really have to put up with McCarver... man he is awful. Is he legally required to make the 80/20 speech every freakin game? Thanks Tim, didn't realize the pitcher splitting focus between baserunners and hitters might be a bad thing... thanks for spelling it out... every... damn... game.... And did he really say something to the effect of the Angels 1st base coach playing it "better safe than sorry" when he yelled 'back' to the Angels baserunner when Pettitte attempted a pickoff? What the hell does that mean, better safe then sorry - isn't that what the coach is supposed to do? I could almost understand the comment if he was yelling back and Pettitte threw a pitch to homeplate but it made no sense whatsoever on a pickoff attempt.

What the Phillies have accomplished in regards to the studs they've produced has been remarkable. The argument about the system in place would point to the Phillies ability to keep/pay those players, where other teams are forced to watch their superstars leave for greener pastures. The Phils are paying Howard, Utley and Lidge more than 3 major league clubs are paying their entire roster in '09.

I have been arguing for a Salary Cap for years, but I just don't see it happening for many reasons:

1. Players union is too strong, they don't care about big market/small market, they want guys like A-Rod to be able to make as much as he can.

2. I think deep down Selig and Co. want the Yankees/Sox/Cubs/Dodgers in the World Series every year because they know that means bigger ratings. Last years ratings were terrible, I am anxious to see this years numbers.

3. The only way to get a Salary Cap is to shut down a season like the NHL did making the players union cave, and I just don't see Baseball doing anything that stupid or they could lose fans forever. Trust me, 1994 and the cancellation of the WS will never forgotten, and both sides don't want to goto war like they did that year.

What are you, on drugs? That's just not possible. I mean, the NFL has revenue sharing and salary cap!!!!!!

Yeah, that game really proved that Baseball is king

The Yankees-Angels game had an 11.4 rating to the Giants-Cardinals’ 10.4. If the New York market were not included in the national calculation, the football game would have won, with a 10.5 rating to baseball’s 9.8.

Ever since the Expos moved to Washington and changed their nickname, Paul Reubens has had little choice but be a Yankees fan.
