So in about month here I will be able to pick up a new tv. We are currently using an Olevia 37 , and have convinced the woman that we should get a new tv and she agreed but better picture quality is not enough it has to be bigger was her reasoning. We were thinking maybe 46" or more if we can get a good value. I will have a budget between $1000-1500 and that number might be able to go higher. I've been hearing a lot about LED's and they are coming down but the things people are saying seems a little more hype and the answer usually seems to be more of like "there better" but other then a higher refresh rate don't get much else. So right now I have no preference to style and brand yet . I will be sitting about 9-11ft away from the tv (we rearrange the room a lot ) and watching comcast hd, xbox 360, and blu-ray (possibly PS3 if the tv is more around the 1500 range and not in the $2000 range :) ) I am able to get discounts on some for example something that caught my eye early on in this is the Sony Bravia 52"KDL52S5100 for as low as $1440 not sure even if that is a good price or is there better picture quality there for a little more cash or less maybe. Any help appreciated thanks.

I've liked the panasonics I've seen. I could get the Panasonic 50" 1080p Plasma 600Hz TV (TC-P50U1) for about 1000 which seems pretty reasonable or is there better quality out there for maybe $500 or so more that I should be looking at *

The answer to every TV recommendation thread is always Panasonic Plamas. They are great TV's. I will admit the quality of the SONY Bravia is first rate. My uncle has the 46" (48"?) which I helped set up and the picture is stunning. I've never had tremendous longevity from SONY's but he has and swears by them. There was no talking him into any other brand.

I too would recommend the Panny. I would not go under the G series though. You can get the G series for just a little more than the 1K and it's a much better TV. Take a look at vann's,they have a good sale going on the 50"G15 which includes the Panny 60 BD player! That player is a very nice player.
If you can afford the 58" I would go that route also.

I'm intrigued by the s1deal the 42" not so much because all the gf is thinking is bigger and there isn't a huge difference there. The only bad thing is if I get the bliray I know I won't get a ps3 not that it's all that bad of a thing

I was all set on buying one of those Panasonic plasmas after my Mitsubishi DLP gave me the BGLOD this weekend, but then I read that thread over at AVS about the black levels rising dramatically after a certain amount of time and quickly changed my mind.
I normally wouldn't buy an off brand but after hearing that the Insignia Plasma is pretty much a Samsung, I picked up the one on sale at BB this week for a grand.

We have two Sony LCD's, a 40" V4100 and a new 52" Z5100. The "Z Series" is as solid as they come. It's more like a XBR Lite.
Check at Crutchfield as they have last years 40" XBR7 at $1000.00 with free shipping, almost 1/2 off last years price.
When we were looking for a set I must say I was impressed with the Samsung new LED's. The picture was just stunning but it wasn't hard to decide on the Sony 52" Z5100 since BB had it $1000.00 off that week.

Hum I've seen the G10/15 50" for just a little over that and IMO I would the extra $100 for the Panny but again those are my eyes.
