For real? How can they justify new parks for the FL with their attendance performance?

I was wondering the same thing! They should make the park smaller!

I also was wondering the same thing and the Twins who have much better attendance then both those teams actually went smaller then what they get in a soldout dome if I remember correctly although I've heard there is a way to expand Target Field for special events if they need to.

The Marlins' new stadium actually will be smaller (in terms of capacity) than Joe Robbie is, and it's about damn time they got a park of their own.

EDIT: Sorry, Land Shark Stadium. I grew up down there; old habits die hard.

Target Field will be host to more 30 degree playoff games like tonight.

I don't think that Rays field is happening for a long time, if ever.

Not a Marlins fan (go Phillies!), but I work in downtown Miami only a couple of miles from where they're building the new stadium. The new Marlins stadium is probably going to help things immensely here (though they shouldn't be building it with public funds).

1. The roof is going to be a huge part. If you've never lived in Miami, you don't know what it's like weather-wise in the summer. Even at night, it's sweltering hot, the humidity is just stifling, and there's thunderstorms every afternoon and evening. It's difficult to justify going to a game in those conditions. Put on the roof, you can open it up in April and early May, and after that the roof's closed, and things are comfortable.

2. Location. The location of LandShark Stadium is godawful. It's difficult to get to (about 45 minutes+ in afternoon traffic from downtown Miami, and half an hour from Fort Lauderdale). The new stadium is right downtown with easy public transportation. I drive by LandShark Stadium on my way home from work, but with the new stadium, it will still be a whole lot easier for me to go to weekday afternoon/evening games when they play the Phillies (for instance).

3. Have I mentioned the roof?

4. LandShark Stadium SUCKS as a baseball stadium. It was never meant for baseball at all. The sight lines are horrible.

5. The capacity of the new stadium is much more manageable (37k) than at LandShark Stadium (which, as above, was never really meant to be a baseball stadium, and even when you get good attendance it feels half empty). One of many problems the Marlins have had, $$$ wise, is that they really get no revenue from attendance/skyboxes/etc.

A lot of those same complaints (except for the roof) could be rightly made against the Sam's Club the Rays play in.

Yep. Target Field is 40,000. Metrodome would hold 46,000 for baseball (55,000 for playoff games when they took down the stupid white curtain in the outfield). Not sure if the new place expands.

Agreed (especially as relates to the location of the stadium)

Here's what the new soccer stadium for NYRB looks like:

Target Field is going to be a great spot for an upcoming Winter Classic game.

That's what I was thinking. TCF Stadium would work pretty well too.

There is a rumor going around that the Blues will play the Wild there either next year or the year after.

That would be so cool I would probably cry . I do think Target can expand because there has already been talk that since the Vikings do not have a deal in place for a new stadium it is too late to have one ready before the Dome lease runs out. So if they needed a temp home or if they tore down that shithole that they would probably need to play at Target Field because there is not way they are playing at TCF. If that were happen they can expand with minimal effort to accomodate football.

I've never heard that. Why wouldn't they play at TCF? It's bigger and is, you know, a football stadium.

It's not that much bigger, if I remember right someone asked the U about it and they sort of said no/made backhand comment about the vikings, plus with no alcohol there would be more money to be made at Target Field then at TCF

They said no to sharing the stadium full time, as a temporary rental they'd have trouble turning it down.

As far as the beer sales, I think they could change the rule for the Vikings. They'd have to spend a lot of money to upgrade Target Field to be able to handle football, and the seating would set up terribly for it.

I think the Marlins' stadium looks pretty cool. I like how the Florida parks are getting away from the retro look, for the most part.

Although, that video board is a bit big. I think a board that's just too big detracts from the look (Dallas' new stadium, for instance).

Is someone building a new football stadium in LA? If so, who is likely to move in it? A new team or a team from another NFL city?

I think there has been talk, but nothing's official yet. I don't think they'll expand any time soon, as they have enough teams as it is, and they seem to really like the 8-division format with 4 teams in each. My guess is either the Jaguars or Chargers would move to LA if a stadium is built. However, there's an outside chance the Rams could move back, and the Vikings have been mentioned as a candidate (although I doubt it would be either of those two).

So, when do the Blue Jays and White Sox start begging for new stadiums? I figure we've got to just about everybody by now, might as well start over again.
