John Birch Society’s “Exposing Terrorism” speaking tour?

So a friend of mine wants me to go see this, as it's coming to town this week:

I've never really heard much about this John Birch Society. Has anyone here gone to this lecture series? Or have an opinion about the JBS?

Every time I hear of John Birch I think of The Smothers Brothers. Tom Smothers is introducing everyone and he says, "First, to my extreme right, is John Birch."

Meaningless if you don't know the bit or the Smothers.

Birchers are slightly more libertarian versions of Pat Buchanan. They opposed the Civil Rights movement and think NAFTA is part of a UN conspiracy to take over the United States.

I had a chat with this same friend on the phone this morning. He described to me how George W. Bush and Barack Obama are "Luciferians" and are part of a "New World" that is coming to subjugate all the people in the world to the plan and will of Satan. Turns out that my friend is also an unflinching disciple of Glenn Beck and Cleon Skousen.
