Safeway Blowout!

My local Safeway just set up a bargain bin with a ton of good titles at near-Big Lots prices. There are some The OC and Dukes of Hazzard box sets as well.

I bought
Iron Man-Single disc for $7.99
Bubba Ho-Tep: SE $3.99
Scary Movie 4 $3.99
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull $6.99
Code 46 $3.99

Re: Safeway Blowout!

Mine had a Cinema Greats 4-pack with newish-looking pressings of Dr. No, Magnificent Seven, Pink Panther, and Fistful of dollars. This release:

http://www.amazon.com/Artists-Collec...808219&sr=1-26

For $7.99.

I wanted to buy it, but my wife wanted to buy Premonition and I didn't dare try rationalizing my purchase while still being able to avoid buying Premonition.

Wonder if these will be at Genuardie's as well since they are the same company?

At the local Safeway I saw season 3 of The OC, season 3 of Six Feet Under and two different seasons of the Dukes of Hazzard, each for $7,99.

Re: Safeway Blowout!

Hrm. I'll have to check Randall's tomorrow (same company as Safeway here in TX) to see if the deal applies there too.

I need some eggs anyways.

Re: Safeway Blowout!

For all Houston/Austinites I can confirm that this sale is going on at Randall's (which is what Safeway is called in the area). I went to the Austin Arboretum location (Braker/183) and right near the end of the checkouts is a big display box that's rainbow colored and says stuff like "BLOWOUT!" all over it.

I picked up Get Shorty: Collector's Edition for $4.99 but I also saw...
Flintstones: Season 2
TMNT: Season 5
Full House: Season 1
Adventures of Superman: Season 2
The OC: Season 1
The MGM Movie set noted above
... all for $7.99. Along with a bunch of movies priced from $3.99 to $7.99.

Good stuff, check it out.

Re: Safeway Blowout!

I also the display in Houston. I was surprised to see a Disney movie in there. Kronk's New Groove for $6.99. Also saw most of the above stuff. Nothing major unless you missed out at some of the Big Lots sales.

$7.99
Veronica Mars S2
Dukes of Hazzard S3 S4
Full House S1
Lois & Clark S2
The OC S2
MGM sets

Re: Safeway Blowout!

Went to 2 Safeway Superstores near my home in Tacoma, Wa. One store had the display mentioned, but it was about 1/3 sold, no box sets of note. The 2nd store did not have the display, they had 15 mediocre titles in quantity at $6.

One thing I found interesting is that the price tags in the display at the 1st store are identical to the price tags I've seen at Albertsons. I suspect a one stop is selling to both chains & pre-pricing for them.

Re: Safeway Blowout!

I picked up some DVDs I have been looking for to finish off some series...
- Richie Rich's Christmas Wish (1998) $3.99
- A Dennis The Menace Christmas (2007) $4.99
- Looney Tunes: Reality Check (2003) 4.99

I know... Pretty lame titles but if there is one thing I have learned over the years is that a lot crappy sequels & prequels that nobody wants tend to stay regularly priced and very little do they ever go on sale or get marked down. So to find these titles that I thought I might never find or have to wait forever to get (for my standard DVD buying price of no more than $5.00 a title) was awesome! I'll have to hit up a few more stores in the area to see what they have.

Albertsons seems to have restocked also, no box sets, though.

Found the Cinema Greats collection of '12 Angry Men/Judgment at Nuremberg/Paths of Glory/A bridge Too Far' among some others. This was at the Vons store in Garden Grove, SoCal for those interested. There are a coupla more sets still remaining at around 3pm.

Re: Safeway Blowout!

I had to go to 5 Safeways to finally find a Veronica Mars. Most stores around me have very few sets and very poor ones like dukes of hazard.

Re: Safeway Blowout!

For those of you who have a Price Chopper (Northeast US), it appears these bins are in some of those as well. Saw one in Torrington, CT today. Only TV set was Tracy Takes On, which was $7.99. Nothing really great of note, lots of kids stuff, specifically Barney & Bob The Builder.
