Attention DVD buyers, what film NOT YET released on Blu would convert you?
I don't plan on changing to Blu-Ray anytime soon, but I would seriously consider converting to Blu-Ray if these movies were released on Blu-Ray either due to the fact that these films currently having poor-quality dvd releases, no dvd releases, or the foreign movie Blu-Ray having English subtitles (while the DVD does not):
1. Emir Kusturica's Time of the Gypsies (no English-subtitled DVD exists)
2. Jodhaa Akbaar, Devdas, and Dil Se (the DVDs of these Bollywood masterpieces are sort of crappy)
3. Original pre-screwed up Star Wars movies (for example, Jedi with old man ghost, and NOT with Hadyen ghost)
4. Emir Kusturica's Underground (the dvds are not bad, but if this was DTSed or 1080ped on Blu-Ray, I would convert)

Argento already has a few movies released on Blu, couple that w/ Halloween and I've started buying Blu before I even have a player.
But to answer the question, If Suspiria got released on Blu today I'd be out there buying a player right now. As it is I'm waiting for holiday deals

I think someone needs to change the title of this thread to "what film NOT YET released on Blu would convert you", as the current title using the past tense "released" as such would mean it has already been put out on Blu-ray....

PTA's films
Jackie Brown
Pulp Fiction
Scorcese's films
Cameron's films
Indiana Jones
The Sopranos
any of my favorites. This is why I haven't been as eager to buy one, as only a few of my favorites have even been released.

Well, considering that I don't really have a proper display, not to mention an audio setup to really take advantage of it, I can't help but interpret the question as what release would I be willing to pay a thousand dollars for. Quick answer, none.

Same situation here. Although the announcement of the upcoming Network/A&E Prisoner box set really got me thinking about an upgrade.

Well, my favorite film (The Seventh Seal) has hit Blu-ray and I still haven't converted. Suspiria is a good answer though.
I think I'll convert only because I might get a PS3 eventually. That said, I don't know how many Blu's I'd buy or rebuy. DVD's upconverted look good enough for me right now.

Re: Attention DVD buyers, what film(s) released on Blu would convert you to buy Blu-R
I have the proper set-up (besides a blu-ray player) so it's not that. The biggest problem for me is the incredible lack of pre-1960s titles or even pre-1980s for that matter. My interests are geared towards classic comedies and pre-1960s films and there is almost nothing out there besides the biggest of the big titles like Wizard of Oz or Casablanca. I love the Die Hard films and Jurassic Park but those alone aren't anywhere near enough for me to switch over and I am generally content with the SD editions.
Now if they started pumping out big collections of restored classic screwball comedies in batches of five or ten to a disc, I'd break speed limits to go to Best Buy and buy a Blu-Ray player. Heck, if they even had twenty five pre-1960s titles that I wanted then that might raise my interest.
As it stands, most of those titles make very little money for the studios. If it weren't for the Warner Archive collection, many of them would never even be on any disc format. I can't imagine the studios catering to the classics crowd for HD content in a serious manner anytime soon.
Oh, and those awful 'degrade the DVD edition to make the BR look better' practices and the omission of extras from SD releases? Yeah, that also leaves a really bad taste in my mouth and makes me think there isn't any real reason to upgrade.

Magnolia was just announced for January 19, with Boogie Nights to follow soon after that....plus There Will Be Blood is already on BD....
Both of these were at one time scheduled for this year, and may still be released around the date of Inglourious Basterds...
Huh?? Goodfellas, Casino, The Departed, Raging Bull, Gangs Of New York, and The Aviator are all already on BD....
Terminator and T2 are both on BD, and Aliens will be out next year as well...Titanic is also rumored to hit the "Sapphire Series" on BD, and I am sure Avatar will be a day and date BD with the eventual DVD release...
Well, there is KOTCS at least...
More good news for you...the first season is being released on BD on November 24...and the two parts of Season 6 are already available as well...

Re: Attention DVD buyers, what film(s) released on Blu would convert you to buy Blu-R
Well, the Digital Bits indicates that Standard DVD has 103,304 R1 titles released.
Blu-ray has 1,629 Region A titles released.
Neither of the above numbers includes discontinued & adult titles.
When Blu-ray begins to make a MUCH bigger dent into the number of released titles I might consider switching, but not even thinking about it yet, just getting tired of all of the Blu fanatics who insist "no Blu = no sale" and such as that in every announcement of a new title.

If both Buffy and Angel were cleaned up so they don't look like complete shit and released on blu-ray only then I might upgrade. Since I don't see that happening I doubt I ever will.

It's not the software, it's the hardware for me. Once a few really good players hit the $150 level, I'll start considering going blu.

i realize the numbers above do not factor in a lot of oop and adult titles, but mmm states 167,397 dvds as of right now. in either case, i would have thought those numbers seem a little low.

When digital 3-D hits the Blu Ray market then I will seriously consider upgrading. I am all about wanting to see/experience the movie the way it was shown in the theater, and only Blu-Ray is going to bring that new technology into my home.
