Things have been running smoothly for my HD-A3 but now I've hid a crazy block. No matter what I do, my HD-A3 always hits me up with an error code of 10004050. When I try and turn it off, that code. When I try and change the settings, that code. I discovered the issue when my remote started making beeps every time I pushed a button. I went to the settings to change it, exited the settings and boom. Error code.
I can watch a DVD or HD-DVD but it doesn't output the audio correctly (everything's coming through as stereo). I go to try and update the firmware through the ethernet, and it tells me to update to a version I thought I already had 1.3/1.1. I have downloaded the new updates and burned to an ISO disc, but when I try and VERUP it gives me that code after a little while.
Anyone have any suggestions?!

Dumb question, but have you unplugged it from the power for a while and tried it again later. There's a very small likelihood that doing so will make a difference, but it couldn't hurt to try if you haven't already.
Also, I believe all of the Toshiba HD DVD players have an option in the setup menu to "Initialize" everything back to the factory defaults. Try that, if you can.

I second both of Josh's recommendations.

I would also call Toshiba. They were very helpful when my A35 STB even though the format had already been abandoned

Thanks for the replies.
Will try unplugging it for the night. I had already tried to initialize it, but that results in the error as well. I was able to go into my persistent storage and delete everything, but once I came out of that... error.
I will also try calling Toshiba next day or two. I'd really hate to lose the machine, as it plays my remaining HD-DVDs and upscales like nobody's business.

I plugged it back in today and same old stalling out problem.
Let's see what Toshiba has to say.

I finally spoke with Toshiba and they had no help other than to exchange the item for $90. That didn't sound like too great a deal to me, but unless I can figure out how to fix this thing I guess I'll be selling it as-is on ebay.

Just buy another A3. It'll cost you like $50.

That's what I've planned on. But now I'm wondering if it'd be worth bumping up to the 30 or 35, since they're all fairly cheap on ebay now.

A30 does 1080p and has analog outs...if that matters to you.

I never really noticed much of a difference between my A3 and A35. I'm sure there was some difference just not a huge one.

if the A35 doesn't break every 3 months like the A3, thats a plus

I did have trouble early on with mine but Toshiba replaced it free of charge.
