As we all know, Best Buy has had more than a few "limited time/early release" BD exclusives, like the last two catalog Bonds, Children Of The Corn, and most recently the Simon Pegg double shot of Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz....
Anyway, on blu-ray.com a poster who claims to have seen Target's ad for next week says they will be exclusively carrying both Gremlins and a cheaper version of The Wizard Of Oz....he says it doesn't state what exactly the stripped down WOZ contains, but that the price is listed as $36.99....
Another poster in the same thread at that site who says he works for Target also states that he does have Gremlins listed for release next week at a price of $24.99....
I hope an ad scan leaks really soon, as I am VERY interested to see if this is true...I also wonder if Target (or another store) will also get a cheaper/stripped down version of Gone With The Wind when that one is released...

Yeah, we've been semi-discussing this in the Oz thread.
Its possible Target used some of its retailer muscles and told Warner they wanted a cheaper version of Oz for the holidays. It may just be the two BDs and NOT the 6 hour MGM Doc DVD. It may be all 3 in a Casablanca package. It may be the normal set at a fantastic price. We should know soon enough!
And Gremlins...oh hell yeah.

I just want the movie. I don't know that I could even pay $37 for it.
$25 for Gremlins also feels like it's too much.
I hope they're not using exclusivity as an excuse to inflate the prices...

Target has a 90 day return policy. If it shows up cheaper just go back, buy the cheaper version and return it with the more expensive receipt. They only price-match for 14 days but you can return for up to 90 days.

Preaching to the choir on that one, Gizmo ;)
What's the wide release date for Gremlins, anyway?

But if they get a specific Sku/UPC then throw that idea out the door. It has happened to me a few times and I just had to eat the price and gift the other copy.

Well, the title was originally slated for Feb/March of 2008 and got pushed mid 2008 and then into 2009. Summer came and went and no announcement. Gremlins has now popped up on Amazon.co.uk for October 13th and Canada has the same date as well. Its very possible Target really did secure exclusive rights to the film...or Warner post-poned the title and Target couldn't edit their weekly ad (its happened before, Blades of Glory BD etc.). It was supposed to come out with Goonies (which did arrive in the UK last year, Gremlins disappeared).
Personally, I'm hoping its true and $25 is fine for a film I want to watch. It may have a special UPC making returns from a different store impossible, but if Target lowers their own price you can still do the buy cheap and return with more expensive receipt.
As for Oz, I'm gonna grab another set from Amazon. I have it at $49ish with a goldbox discount and Targets price (with tax) means $10 more for a really nice looking box. It's a sweet set and most fans will really enjoy it. I've bitched enough about this BS tactic with Warner, but this is really an awesome set.
Also, I don't know if anyone knows this, apparently the 6 hour DVD doc is included with both the Oz and GWTW set.

If the Wizard of Oz is the complete package, or includes both Blu-ray's and the DVD Documentary, I'm in for it! I want Gremlins too, absolutely, but $25 seems to expensive. When does it come out everywhere else? I would love to watch it in time for Halloween.

Gremlins was never officially announced...so we don't know WTF is going on with it. I got an October 13th date tossed to me a while back but still nothing.

All I want for TWOZ to be is the three discs from the stupid boxset in a regular sized plastic BD case....no digipacks/digibooks/cardboard foldout crap....just give me a release in a standard Blu case with the flap in it, just like the one they used for Watchmen a couple months ago....
I love Gremlins but not enough for a $25 price point....I could wait for a general retail release on that one, though as Gizmo mentioned, the 90 day return policy there really does help cover yourself for later sales....

That's the first I've heard of a U.S. Gremlins BD release. It's showing up at Amazon UK with a release date of Oct. 19. It would be a little bit cheaper to import it at today's exchange rate than it would to pay $24.99 plus tax at Target.
The Wizard Of Oz is in my Netflix queue.
Edit: Sorry Gizmo, I missed your post above with the Amazon UK release date.

I'm pretty skeptical of this whole thing so I'll wait to see an ad scan before getting too excited.

I had no clue about Gremlins. Is this really coming to Target next week? If so I'm definitely picking it up.
Although there was a preview for the Deluxe Edition on "Scooby Doo: The Mystery Begins" though all it was, was the theatrical trailer; and nothing more.

I don't think anyone knows for sure. Guess we'll see.

The ad doesn't say, but the picture looks just like the cardboard digipack cover/sleeve that is included inside the big UCE box that holds just the three discs in a foldout/gatefold package....I'm betting that is what it will be, the two BDs and the double sided DVD with the MGM documentary....at least that is what it SHOULD be if they're charging $34.99 for it!
The plot thickens even more for OZ now though, as someone at AVSforum now says they picked up an early copy of OZ on BD at Walmart for $19.95 in a regular Blu case! :scratch2:
Maybe Walmart used their muscle to demand a "regular" BD edition for them, much like how they carried a plain version of Woodstock...

Fuck yes! Gremlins! I'll gladly pay $23 to have this on BD.

The poster at AVS has now provided a cell phone pic of the Walmart edition for proof:

I hope they do this with GWTW too! I know a lot of people hate Walmart and how they can flex their retail power to get their way, but I think this is one of those instances where I am pretty happy they made Warner produce them a cheaper version...

Yep...way to go Wal-Mart! This was all them. I had a feeling this might happen with such a high-profile catalog release. Wal-mart won't have any way to store those $50 sets and wanted to have the title available to consumers for Q4. Good job! Le the CE sets for fans/collectors and the normal edition for everyone else.

So is getting it at Wal-Mart right now a YMMV thing? The thing doesn't come out officially until next week, right?

Only if your local Walmart screws up and puts it out early (like what happened for that guy at AVS)....all Walmarts should have this out next Tuesday on shelves as that is the official street date for the title...
Speaking of more exclusives....The Digital Bits just posted that Target should also be getting an exclusive less-trinket-filled version of Gone With The Wind in November and will also get an exclusive sales window for GOONIES on BD just like they are with Gremlins!
I am starting to see a pattern here with the Warner "giftset/collector's edition" titles....first Woodstock, then OZ, now GWTW.....I hope it continues and Walmart will get a plain case version of GWTW for an exclusive there too....

I figured Goonies as well. Shame those are not DigiBook titles. I alrwady have a UK edition of Goonies...so I'll think about the conversion.
