Should I read Pride and Prejudice before I read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies?

Told you it was simple!

According to my wife (who has read both), yes.

If I like the Pride and Prejudice series, that will be next on my list.

I didn't read the original, but I know most of the story, so I think that was enough to suffice. And as an aside, I really didn't care for P&P&Z. I found it to be a gimmick book without the goods to back it up.

I really hated P&P&Zombies, but I was very familiar with the original Austen text thanks to my wife. I've read it twice and seen the 6 hour miniseries many more times than that.

If you have any real interest in the book, you may ruin the whole thing by reading the original text first. I still think I would have not like P&P&Zombies very much, but all I could hear were the original lines - the zombies book does not carry over the Austen humor and the author fails miserably at mixing the new text and dialogue with Austen's.

FWIW, I enjoyed P&P&Zombies and I had never read, nor really knew much of anything about P&P.
