Hollywood Video is running a sale on both NEW and USED movies.. but it's better than the usual one that you see.

NEW titles: $7.99 and under are all $4.99

USED titles:

$5.99 and under = 3/$10
$9.99 and under = 5/$20
$12.99 and under = 4/$20
$14.99 and under = 4/$30

Not fantastic prices, but not bad either (even the $5.99 section had some very decent titles such as the CGI resident evil movie). The $12.99 and $14.99 had very recent titles (dragonball, street fighter, miss march, obsessed, etc..)

HOWEVER, what makes this deal better is that if you meet the minimums (posted above), all titles ring up at their "sale" prices. This means that if you buy 3/$10, they ring up as $3.33.. You can buy 4 titles and they're still $3.33, you can buy 10 and they're all $3.33 (this is much better than the usual "must purchase in groups of 3 for the sale price" rules).

To make it even better, you can match any combination of the above and still get the sale prices. I purchased 3 $14.99 movies and a $12.99 movie and they rang up as $7.50 (x3) + $5.00 - they said I could go back and buy any more as singles at the discounted price.. you just need to hit the minimum for the offer (the 4 I bought qualified as "4/$30" because they were under $14.99, but when the prices broke down, it came out to be even less since one was a $12.99 movie).

Sale runs through the end of the week!

Used BLU RAY movies are $16.99, no discount for multiple (but they did have hard-to-find-cheap movies like the 2-disc sleeping beauty.

Those $5 titles all qualify for the 3 for $10? If so, I'm going to have to tell my sister about the sale. She'll want a few of those.

Sorry - I didn't clarify that part.

Those $5 titles (the ones with the titles listed) are $14.99 each, but on "sale" as a promotion for $5.00.

The 3/$10 are for titles that are marked $5.99 or less (meaning that's their normal price), so these won't quality for that special.

EDIT: One other thing - Hollywood video movies are "guaranteed for life" unlike Blockbuster (guaranteed 30 days from date of purchase). This is important for people like me who buy movies but don't get around to watching them until months later sometimes. With that said, the 10 titles I purchased tonight looked fantastic!

Yep. I don't know why they changed the name of the promotion. I think buy 2 get 2 free sounds better. This also applies to Movie Gallery too since it's the same company. I went by MG this weekend and all the good stuff for in the $14.99 section. I only saw one thing that I wanted for $4. (Lakeview Terrace). I guess I'll be waiting a bit longer to get the stuff that I really want at a cheaper price.

I work at Hollywood Video and I didn't even know about this sale I guess I'll have to take a look when I go into work tomorrow. We don't have a used Blu Ray section yet

Hey everyone,

Sorry if your store isn't doing the same deal - I asked last night and was told that it was national, but today heard that there are 2 types of Hollywood Videos and that you can tell by the prices they use.

One set uses $5.99, $9.99, $12.99, $14.99 titles (and is doing the sale), the other set uses $3.99, $4.99, $7.99, $9.99, $14.99 (and isn't doing the sale). I'd say its best to call before heading down there if you're not sure.

I went back tonight to grab a few more and noticed that theres another deal for Powerplay subscribers (I don't know what that is though - maybe something like the Blockbuster Rewards program?)

Basically it allows you to purchase the deals above but at an even lower cost (and with no minimums)

For example:


$3 each (no limit) for powerplay customers.

I went to two separate stores. Both had no idea of what I was talking about. They had to look it up in some weekly print out they get. Sure enough it was in there. So if you do not see it ask. Both times I had to speak to a manager because the zit faced 18 year old behind the counter insisted there was no sale. I just love when i prove incompetent & lazy people wrong. Thus making them look stupid in font of their boss. LOL!

This sale is at Movie Gallery stores as well. I talked to the store manager at the hollywood next to me and they said watch out for some increases in PV titles they are transfering out of stores in the boonies to the main cities. could be cool.

I picked up my fair share of "bad" movies during the sale (Street Fighter, Dragonball, Obsessed, House Bunny, Spring Breakdown, Brothers Solomon, ...Still Waiting, Vacancy 2, What happens in vegas, My bloody valentine 3D), but have enjoyed them so far (of the ones I've gotten through - in total I've picked up probably 30 titles during this sale).

A special note - the sale was supposed to end yesterday but has been extended "for at least a few more weeks" according to 2 stores in the area if you were still planning to check it out. I've even seen some new movies (security labels and all) in the used section with a Pre-Viewed sticker slapped on the case.

In addition, the manager I talked to tonight said they would match any combination of movies as long as you purchase 4. That means you can buy a $14.99 movie, $12.99 movie and 2 $5.99 movies and they would ring it up as $7.50, $4.99, $3.33, $3.33.. (you can even do a $14.99 and 3 3/$10 movies and get the deal).
