Post your favorite non-'R', < 2hr. movies.

let's celebrate the lesser revered movies that can never make it into critics' and fans' top tens because they don't have that 'R' rating and aren't over 2 hours long in order to guarantee blockbuster status.

show the naysayers and our favorite special friend what HE or she maybe missing in fine cinema

two recent favs:

couple all-time favs:

First of all I'd like to say all of the above would be SOOOOOOOOOO much better if they were R-rated and/or 2 hours long. ...

I watched The Man Without a Face today, it wasn't R, and it was only 116 minutes, though looking at my collection I only have a handful a films that meet this requirement.

Well he acts like he's in High School. So...the vibe is there. Honestly though...I totally thought some of my films that I posted were 2 hours...it's just the norm really. Ghostbusters feels like a longer movie, in a good way, cuz so much happens in it. Ditto for Jeremiah Johnson...

Citizen Kane, Sunset Boulevard, The Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, On the Waterfront, and many others.

Sigh. You know the old saying: they just don't make under-2-hours-and-not-rated-R movies like they used to.

well, you attacked him again after he (and I) decently replied, then deleted your post, so I don't feel out of line at all, sorry for spoiling your F-U-N.

On topic: I fondly remember and enjoyed the Popeye...when I was 7. Haven't seen it since...I really liked the end of it though..just like the cartoons. Especially with Shelly Duvall yelling for Popeye's help.

Re: Post your favorite non-'R', < 2hr. movies.

The true cut of Taken would be rated R.

Night of the Comet, UHF, Freaked, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Innerspace, Chicken Run, Top Secret!, Monkeybone, Dumb and Dumber, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Edward Scissorhands, Raising Arizona, Tron, The Thing From Another World, Spaceballs, Silent Movie, and The Graduate are a few random movies that should fit both criteria that I spied on my shelf, although I didn't look any of them up. I know none of them are rated R but some of them might be 2 hours or longer.

Re: Post your favorite non-'R', < 2hr. movies.

I've always had my doubts about the unrated cut of Taken scoring an R. It always looked very PG-13 to me. Heck, the only reason I knew I saw the unrated cut in theaters was because of all the talk about the spikes through the legs (which they never actually show since they cut away before they even make contact). Yes, there were a lot of little cuts throughout the whole movie (a guy gets shot once in the PG-13 and five or six times in the unrated cut, etc.) to secure a PG-13 but the unrated cut never felt R-worthy.

I'd have to disagree.
Spoiler:
Once Neeson is on the boat, he shoots at least a couple of guys in the face.

I really enjoy it because of the music numbers by Harry Nilsson and for the witty script. Things like "I'm looking for me Olive Oyl and Sweet Pea! Olive Oyl and Sweet Pea? What, are you making a salad?" or the scene in the gambling parlor with the "ladies of the evening" where Popeye keeps his kid away from them or else he'll catch a "venerable disease."
