View Full Version : (DEAD) 30% off Used DVD's at gohastings.com

brkhrt7 posted this deal in the Blu-Ray forum a couple days ago (and I greatly appreciate it!) but I just realized that as far as I can tell it never got posted here for SD-only users to see:

www.gohastings.com
additional 30% off used movies (and games and music)
use code 321321

SUPER Low prices! We've been picking up tons of blu's for under $10, and I've gotten dvd's for even cheaper (example: I picked up the practically brand-new release "Push" on SD for $3.32!)

Yes, I have been ordering both used DVDs & Blu-rays for great prices.

I just hope the condition of these aren't as bad as Family video's (which I will never order from again) as both companies ship their product from specific stores and not a central warehouse.

If you order "used" from Hastings you're getting one that was sold to them from a single owner, as opposed to their "previously viewed" ones which are ex-rentals that have been handled by many careless people.

p.s. - also, personally I've gotten several from FamilyVideo, and all mine were just fine.

Yeah, I found the same thing. Didn't work on sets. But I still picked up the Die Hard Collection (Blu) with my order - even without discount came to less than $10 a movie.

It may also be only on certain titles... so best is to search out what you want.. add them to the cart... see what is discounted... make decision to buy or not... enjoy...

...all for $119.90 shipped. Shipping itself was over $30. This seems like a very good deal. Hope I get everything and they are the correct editions of the DVD's I ordered.

I placed an order as well...$21 with approx. $12 shipping. From what I read in the blu-ray bargain thread, it appears that these DVDs can sometimes be shipped from different stores, so I can understand the extra shipping costs. I picked up 8 DVDs along with 2 books (all 30% off).

Went ahead and placed and order. Buncha cheap titles, and one somehow counted as a set, so the discount didn't even cover the shipping. Still, I picked up some items I've been wanting for a while.
The Legend of Fong Sai Yuk $7.94 $5.56
Jet Li's Fearless [Director's Cut 2 Discs] $5.22 $3.66
Land Time Forgot/People Time Forgot $4.10 $4.10
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm $2.38 $1.67
Batman and Mr. Freeze: SubZero $3.76 $2.64
Phantasm is listed as the flipper with both the WS and FS versions; I understand that the FS is an open matte of the WS, so if I get the wrong one I don't mind that much. But I'll be pretty peeved if I don't get the Dragon Dynasty and Director's Cut versions of the Jet Li films. All of the right pictures are in my completed order, so we'll see what turns up.

A lot of the titles I wanted either weren't available used, or the discounted price still wouldn't have been that great a deal. Ultimately, I ordered:

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (3-disc)
Cool Hand Luke (deluxe)

$17.77 with shipping.

Kind of pales in comparison to some of the lists above, but much better than I've found elsewhere on these editions until now. Thanks to the OP for posting the code!

I've never order from GoHastings before but was looking to get some cds. I see on their site that they only guarantee playability not that the item will come with artwork and inserts.
Does any one have any experience with this? Have you ordered dvds or cds and had them come without the booklets or cover art?
There are some decent deals, but they wouldn't be worth it to me to get cds with out the insert book.

It seems unlikely that all 31 CDS would go out of stock.

Is this the first time you ordered from them?

They had to call me to confirm my address info for my first order as it was large & and I never ordered from them before. They would not process the order until it was confirmed.

Why don't you call them to find out what happened?

Im not sure I like how they do things. Its kinda confusng me.
I received about 15 or 16 e-mails informing me individual items had shipped. But the price next to the item that shipped shows the price before the 30% discount.
I ordered like 30 items all together so does this mean im gonna get like 30 different shipping charges?

fronk777

I've ordered alot of blu-rays from this sale and the overall condition of the Used ones are excellent. Also, they ship each movie separately.

Cheato
09-05-09, 11:34 AM
Shipping emails always show the original list price on the site, but the discount will be in effect for the charge to your card.
You will get charged the correct price for everything, probably all at once, not a bunch of separate charges.
Temporary charges are just that--they are from the original authorization and will drop off, and then be replaced by the real charges, so if something's been canceled, don't worry.

If you're not happy with the quality (scratched disc or whatever), contact them and arrange for a return, and they will give you a full refund including shipping charges, and pay shipping to get the item back. They're pretty friendly.

I've ordered about 100 things from them in the last month or so, starting with a recent B2, G1 for $1 sale (with a stackable $5-off coupon), which was then repeated a week or so after it ended, which was then replaced with the 30%-off sale a day after that one ended. I'd been following this sale at CAG, so didn't realize it hadn't been posted over here. No problems with them so far, other than some cases/inserts (and manuals for games) being missing or ruined (on the last page of one manual, someone had written "This game sucks!!! Ha-ha-ha! You're a loser for getting it!" :) ). But I don't care about any of that stuff--only the condition of the discs (all acceptable(*), many near mint) and whether they're the versions I ordered (so far, so good).

(*) Some of them were VERY scratched, but I polished them with toothpaste, and they played fine. A couple of the badly scratched ones played fine to begin with, and didn't need the toothpaste.

There are a couple threads about fixing scratches on discs. Toothpaste has worked for me. Some people say boiling them in water works, and some people use car polish. Search the forum for more info.
CAG is CheapAssGamer, where you can find a deals forum like this one, but for games. As I said, I hadn't realized the deal wasn't posted here.

I ordered from these guys maybe 18 months ago and my whole order was shipped at once, in one package. Since when did they start shipping everything seperately? I don't want thirteen indivdual shipments. In the immortal words of the mayor of imaginationland, "That's fucking stupid".

n.phelge
09-06-09, 11:06 AM
I'm guessing shipments depend on which store/warehouse has the used item, so the shipping charges go with the worst-case approach of each item being located at a different place.

Something happened between Friday and Saturday on the pricing - a couple of the used CDs I had in my cart went up by $15 each, so I guess I will pass on those.

Thanks for posting OP - I don't check the blu-ray forum.

Yeah, I got it to work on some others I tried. I was trying it on WWE SummerSlam Anthology sets, which have 5 DVDs or so. I guess it doesn't work on box sets?

It worked on other DVD releases though.

cardsfan111
09-06-09, 01:53 PM
^ Yep, doesn't work on sets. In fact, I tried to include a double feature DVD that as far as I know is a flipper-type situation so it should have been considered a single disc, yet it wouldn't give the discount.

Cheato
09-06-09, 02:53 PM
There are some movies that aren't included, too.

To get the discount, they have to be part of the promotion (the vast majority of things are). You can follow a link to the sale from the banner ad on one of the main pages (for example, at the top of the "Trends" page). The banner ad clearly says "Click to see qualifying titles." Clicking on that takes you to a specific category/promotion called "Used DVD Favorites."

For example, in the Action category, for all DVDs on the site, it currently says there are 2962 titles. However, choosing the filter to show only Used titles gives 2018 possibilities. On the other hand, choosing the "Used DVD Favorites" under the Promotions filter category gives only 1887 titles.

If you enter a code, and it is not a valid code, the site might still accept it (and not give any kind of discount). I have seen that happen; I don't know if the site always works like that. You then have to use the link to remove the coupon code, and then enter another one. It might be designed that way to keep people from searching and looking for other codes by trial and error.

If the "321321" code isn't working for you, try just using "321." Some CAG members also claimed the code wouldn't work, and customer service apparently told them that worked, too. I haven't tried it.

Cheato
09-06-09, 03:32 PM
Just remembered:

With the coupon that was available before the current sale started (a simple "$5 off your order" coupon), it only worked if you were signed up for the email newsletter. There's a link at the bottom of just about every page called "E-mail sign-up." If you're having a problem with coupon codes, it could be because your account hasn't had the code enabled for it. And if you're not logged in, it might not be accepting the code, either. I don't know for sure--I haven't played with the site just to see what works and what doesn't.

Thanks for the heads-up on this. Hastings has gotten plenty of my $$$ in the past, but this was the 1st time I've ordered online from 'em.

Here's my haul ( kinda off-topic cuz there's only 1 DVD in there, but what the hey ) :

The Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder: Punk and New Wave ( DVD )

"Looking Back with Scott Walker" - Scott Walker

"Cosmic Peekaboo" - The Free Design

"Mid-Fi Field Recordings Vol. 1: Live at the Tractor Tavern, Seattle, Washington" - Supersuckers

"Live at Bart's CD Cellar and Record Shop" - Supersuckers

"Black and White" - Greyhound

"Black and White: Best of Greyhound" - Greyhound

"The Birth of Trojan" - Various Artists

"Trojan Box Set: Jamaican Hits" - Various Artists

"So Divided" - ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead

9 CD's + 1 DVD = $38.25. Not bad.

I'm browsing used DVD's sorted "price low-to-high", and so far I've looked at over 100 pages of titles under $2.00, and that's BEFORE the discount!! Lots of crap, for sure, but also stuff like ALIEN, ALIENS, TOP GUN, DIE HARD, THE ABYSS, HARRY POTTER/CHAMBER, HARRY POTTER/AZKABAN, AIRPLANE, THE SIMPSONS MOVIE, I ROBOT, BASIC INSTINCT, NEAR DARK, GHOST: SE, MI3, THE RUNDOWN, YOUNG GUNS,CLOVERFIELD, FANTASTIC 4, LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD, TRUE LIES, BATMAN RETURNS, BEOWULF, KING KONG (both the 1976 and the recent remake), HELLBOY, SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN, ...

you're basically getting these titles for just shipping costs! I can only imagine how much I'd find if I had time to keep browsing up to $5.00!

My 3rd (and final?) order:
Open Range $2.66
The Mexican $1.40
It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown $1.08
The Easter Bunny Is Coming to Town $1.10
King Kong $1.26
Airplane $1.32
King Kong $1.33
Near Dark $1.33
The Breakfast Club $3.83

9 movies shipped for $26 total!

^^ I know the feeling cinemaphile. I spent some time browsing a couple of days ago and put together a 2nd order. Something I discovered is it can be worth your while to click on a title if there are different versions. For instance, the original Friday the 13th film has used under it for $3.60. Click on it individually and you realize that's for the more recent uncut deluxe edition. I was thrilled to pick up...

Part 1 Deluxe Edition for $2.52
Part 2 Deluxe Edition for $1.71
Part 3 Deluxe Edition for $1.58

(before shipping)

These were titles I never wanted to spend much on since it would be a double-dip, but at these prices I couldn't pass it up. Now hopefully I'll receive the correct versions. :fc:

Slates/A Part of America Therein, 1981 - The Fall $2.76
A Brief History of the Twentieth Century - Gang of Four $2.09
Pig Lib - Stephen Malkmus $1.82
Torso $5.25

Boy, I don't get this "ship the discs separately" thing. I've gotten 7 or 8 emails now. Seems like it's not very cost efficient for them.

My understanding is that it is because they dont keep their used product in a warehouse somewhere. This is used product that is out amongst their stores. So when an order comes in, they find stores with those particular titles in stock, and have them ship those items, so they often come from multiple locations, hence the separate shipments. (Family Video does the same thing)

Well, you can consider me a new fan of Hastings. I just received 6 of 8 dvds, all in perfect condition (discs and case).

My order (all used, not PV...price after discount):

The X-Files: I Want to Believe (3 Disc SE) - $4.58
Beetlejuice (Deluxe Ed.) - 2.01
Scanners - 1.52
RocknRolla (SE) - 5.99
Pineapple Express (2 Disc Unrated Ed.)- 4.65

...still waiting on:
Friday the 13th (Deluxe Ed.) - 2.52
Friday the 13th: Part 3 3D (Deluxe Ed.) - 1.61

Like others, I've been impressed with this site/sale. For some reason I can't seem to access my order history to verify, but today I got the 2-disc version of Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and I sure think I ordered the 1 disc version. Got 4 of my DVDs today...all in different packages, of course. The version of Hancock I received seems to be in more of a rental case which makes it appear like it's a previously viewed copy as opposed to a used one. As of now though, I'm pleased with the prices and speed of delivery.

Thanks, OP. I saw this post earlier and forgot about it. I'm a bit tight on money, right now, so I was a little hesitant in looking. I ended up getting an e-mail on it and decided to, at least, check out a couple of titles I've been wanting. I ended up buying Curious Button (BD) and Marley & Me (BD) for $20 after shipping & tax. I was debating on making the order, but I remembered I had a gift card that still had over $8 on it, so I only needed about $12. I figured I could splurge that much, especially since I've been wanting both of those titles for a while, and knew I couldn't find a better deal on them. I'm just hoping they come in the original cases. I know it's iffy, but for that price, I went ahead and took a chance. After all, Marley & Me was only $5+ before shipping & tax. I'm hoping that it has the DVD copy included, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. I like having the extra DVD copy for my son. He's not quite old enough to sit and watch movies, yet, but he will be before I know it. I know this wasn't quite the kid's movie that they promoted it to be, but my son loves dogs, and every time he sees the movie at the store, he points to it and says "dog!" (he's only 16 months old), and one day at Blockbuster he started pulling all the copies off the shelf. So eventually he'll just enjoy watching it for the dog. But it not being a kid's movie meant it was a surprisingly good movie when my wife and broke down and saw it when all of our Valentine's Day plans got busted. It ended up being the best Valentine's Day ever, as everything was spontaneous, and included a surprisingly good movie about family...one that really touched us at the time as it was a rough day leading up to that and a lot of things that we were facing starting a new family. My wife definitely wanted the movie.

Anyway, I'm rambling about stuff most people probably don't care about. Just wanted to say thanks, and I got carried away. I'm so surprised to finally get a good deal at Hasting's website (BTW, I'm finally glad they got a new look for their site, which used to be so bland), and to finally use that gift card I've had since Christmas (so long old friend...it was nice having you comfortably sit in my wallet for months in case I needed you).

So now I gotta go and fuss with the return.
But overall not a bad deal and some great stuff for great prices. .

Yea I had the same problem with Marley & Me 3-disc blu-ray and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull 2-disc blu-ray. Ugh...

Lots of good deals here.

Mona Lisa (Criterion) is $6.65 after discount. I have the R2, which is a better version, so I didn't bother, but Criterion collectors may be interested.

Dick Cavett: Ray Charles is $3.15. Discount doesn't apply but already a good price.

Good deals on Fox Film noir titles too.

Here's the DVD / Blu-Ray part of my order (I also ordered a bunch of CDs):

got the first two in yesterday. very fast considering it was a holiday weekend and I only put in the order on friday. fist of legend (2 disc) came with the slipcover and the discs were in good shape. Great American Bash 2008 had marks on the disc, but I watched it all the way through with no hiccups or freezes. So far, so good. 11 more to go.

So, what's the general concensus on the site? I've added a few DVDs to my cart, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I see that many of you have said that shipping was quick and the discs were in good shape, but what about the cases/cover art? Were those included with all your DVDs?

Definitley I have even gotten slipcovers with many titles like Soul Men, Hancock 2-disk, What Doesnt Kill You, My Bloody Valentine (3D lenticular slipcover) , Indie Sex, Notorious (3-disk) etc.,
I have only received to wrong dvd's = Punisher War Zone 1 disk when I paid for and ordered the 2-disk and today I got the 1-disk edition of the 2009 My Bloody Valentine when I ordered and paid for the SE of the 80's version of the film.

Oh and MOst of the DVDs and CD's are in fantastic shape. Only 1 I have received taht I wanted that was bad was my copy of We Own the Night.
ALso shipping is surprisingly fast.

Friday the 13th (Deluxe Ed.)...perfect condition w/slipcover
Friday the 13th: Part 3 3D (Deluxe Ed.)...perfect condition, 2 pairs 3D glasses, no slipcover

I thought it was funny that the one Friday the 13th I received w/o a lenticular slipcover was Friday the 13th Part 3 3D

I'm thinking of placing another order today.

It's the opposite for me. My dvds came with slipcovers, cases, and internal booklets all in very good condition.... but the discs themselves look really bad. Major scratches and scuffing all over... one even has heat bubbles on the front side of the disc!. And I specifically ordered "used" rather than "previously viewed" as one of the posts above implied that "used" should generally be in better condition as it means from someone's collection rather than ex-rental.... but the ones I received must have been rentals, there is no way they could look this bad otherwise.

I haven't tried playing them yet, but I am tempted to return them anyway. I don't think I will be ordering from Hastings again.

It's pretty much been determined that the discount does not apply to any sets, whether its a season set of a tv show, a box set of movies, whatever...

You know, I GET the idea of price fluctuations when you're talking about used items - stock is constantly changing. I just don't get the point when it's sometimes so negligible. Example: I've kept Mr & Mrs Smith blu-ray on my watch list, and it keeps changing between $19.92, $19.94, and $19.90. Crazy.

Similarly, I was contemplating getting a PS2 game: Atari Anthology. Same thing. EVERY DAY, it changed by a few cents in one direction or the other. I was wondering if there was some kind of currency exchange rate causing it. It was nuts. $7.90, $7.88, $7.91, $7.90, $7.93,... Then it went out of stock and dropped to $3.99.

I just missed Sanjuro (Criterion) in the Previously Viewed category for $9.99. I just added it to my wishlist last night (earlier, had it in there under the Used category, but that was OOS, and then I noticed the PV one was in stock last night, so added it to my wishlist), but it was the only think I wanted at the time, so I didn't pull the trigger. I copied my wishlist into my spreadsheet to compare prices today, found a few that had dropped below my maximums since yesterday, and decided to put in another order. Within 2 minutes of my copying the list into Excel and sorting it, Sanjuro went OOS. Grr.

I hope at least someone here got it. And I hope you choke on it! (sob)

Received some items today (only 2 DVDs so far). Condition:

DVDs

There Will Be Blood (2-disc) - second disc is scratched; case is in very good condition.

Lucia Lucia - disc is pristine but the case is a Blockbuster case with Blockbuster stickers, and the art is ripped to shreds. Fortunately I only need the disc as I am replacing one that was lost (or, more specifically, never returned by an ex).

CDs

Stereo Total - S/T (perfect)
Stereo Total - Musique Automatique (perfect)
Comsat Angels - My Mind's Eye (slight scratch on disc)
The Notwist - The Devil, You, and Me Deluxe (perfect)
Love of Diagrams - Mosaic (perfect)
Subtle - Exiting Arm (perfect)

Overall, for these prices I am happy so far. Let's see how the other 20 items I ordered look when they arrive.

Got my copy of Curious Button and Marley & Me BDs, today. Quick shipping. I was concerned whether or not Marley & Me would have the DVD with it. I took it out of the bubble envelope and found that it hadn't even been opened! The shrink wrap was missing, but the sticker label across the top hadn't been broken. So it looks like I got a brand new copy! Yay! I looked inside and everything was there. Curious Button was opened, but looked in good condition with inserts included. I was thinking that it originally came with a slipcover (if so, it was missing), but I'm not worried about slipcovers. They look nice, but make it more difficult to get the movie out, and isn't a big loss to me.

What you have to realize in asking whether or not the cases are in good condition or if the inserts are included are that the used movies are copies they bought from customers, so it depends on if the seller included everything, just like any other place you would buy used from. Most people probably do just include everything, as they don't bother with them, but it's not guaranteed. I think I got extremely lucky to get a brand new copy of Marley & Me :) I believe previously viewed are the rental copies, so it's more likely that everything would be included, but may be watched more than a used movie (which may have only been watched once or twice). But with BDs, that shouldn't be an issue.

Went ahead and placed my first order with GoHastings this evening. Thanks to cinemaphile for mentioning the difference with Hastings' site between "Used" and "P/V" discs. I went ahead and bought only discs that were marked "Used".

First Order: (Prices After Discount)

The Deaths Of Ian Stone: $1.31
Sex and Death 101: $2.16
Hell Comes To Frogtown: $2.85
Flavia The Heretic: $6.12
Entrails Of A Virgin: $6.65
Entrails Of A Beautiful Woman: $5.31
Alone In The Dark (1982): $2.82

Shipping: $8.99
Total: $36.21

Not bad seeing as each DVD comes out to a little over $5.10 a piece.

I've received about 40 DVDs so far and I notice that even though I ordered used, I am getting some Hasting's rental copies (around 8 of my DVDs). I also ordered 2 "PV" titles and one was a rental and one was like New and not a rental...very strange.

One DVD I need to return as it is in bad shape. Aound 6 or 7 came in Blockbuster cases. A couple had their cases in bad shape but the discs were fine. I received 2 New DVDs, although the shrinkwrap was not on, the security sticker was.

Overall, I am happy with my purchases. I just wish they had a better refund policy where they will send you another copy in exchange for the defective one you send back.

Yeah, not so fast with the gratitude - that's the way used vs. pv was explained to me, and I'm sure that's the way it is supposed to be, but like Jaymole, a few of my used have shown up with rental labels on them - maybe 3 out of my 15. Still played perfectly (and mine were still in original cases), but just wanted to let you know they occasionally seem to screw up and send an ex-rental instead.

Well I guess I was just very unlucky, but my first experience buying from hastings.com will be my last. I only ordered three dvds, the POTC trilogy. Made sure I ordered "used" to avoid getting heavily worn rental copies.... but to no avail. First problem: I received two copies of Curse of the Black Pearl and no disc of At World's End. So I will need to call their customer service on Monday (how nice that they aren't there on weekends....) and try to get this straightened out. Even more bothersome is that *both* copies of Black Pearl and my copy of Dead Man's Chest look like somebody rubbed the discs with sandpaper. I'm not joking.... they look that bad. I'm not talking a minor scratch here or there... these discs look like pieces are going to start flaking off at any moment, that's how bad they look. And no way am I going to eat the cost of shipping to send something back... bottom line, I will probably just toss these and buy them again from somewhere else and just accept my $12 loss... but I won't be ordering anything from them again, no matter how good their prices look.

Oops, my bad.

I'm fine with rental copies, as long as there are no stickers on the actual artwork or disc. Getting those off are a pain sometimes and you end up ruining the artwork/disc.

Kind of wonder if rental copies even exist at Hastings for many of the Exploitation/Horror flicks I picked up :)

As for me, I've ordered 22 DVDs with this code and 15 have already arrived.

11 were perfect apart from very minor shelfwear to the cases. 2 were resurfaced (some buffing residue, which I was able to wipe off). 1 had a few scracthes, but it was on the fullscreen side of a flipper disc, so no biggie. That brings us to the the lone dud so far - this one was poorly resurfaced and then scratched up again anyway. The disc was so worn it was cracked all around the hub of the disc and plastic pieces were flaking off. The artwork was tattered and wrinkled - just pitiful condition all around. Go figure it was the disc I wanted the most. :hairpull:

The website still has it for sale, but I doubt they'll send me another copy before I get this one back to them (I'm sure it will be gone by that time anyway). On the plus side, shipping was ridiculously fast (for $24, it should be). It's hard to beat a 2-3 day turnaround. Everything seemed to ship from the same location (Amarillo, TX) and were delivered together in separate bubble mailers. Certainly impractical, they've got to be losing money shipping this way.

I had one today where the sticker was obviously removed from around the hub, leaving some residue. Course, it could be that someone bought a previously viewed from Hastings, took off the Hastings sticker after watching it and turned around and traded it back to them.

LOL.... alright, Cheato my friend... point taken..... I was under the (apparently wrong) impression from reading their FAQ that I would be responsible for the return shipping costs involved in an exchange of used titles.....so my logic was, rather than incurring any additional cost with them and taking a chance that the replacement discs would be in just as poor condition as the first used ones I received, I would stop the bleeding at only $12 and file this under lessons learned in terms of who I order from. But others have stated that they will provide a free return shipping label, so I will proceed down that route and try an exchange.

The new deal is okay, but it takes the CHEAPEST titles for the $1 title. So, if you have 12 titles, it will take cheapest 4 titles and not the cheapest of each group of 3.

This really hurts the deal for me, combined with the shipping costs.

^ It works just like every other BxGx deal in the history of the universe (excluding glitches like the WB store).

not necessarily. there are plenty of BxGx where it groups them according to price. for example if you buy 3 $20 discs, 3 $15 discs and 3 $10 discs, hastings is charging you 20x3, 15x3 and giving you the 3 $10 discs free. there are plenty of places (including blockbuster) that in that same scenario would give you a $20, $15 and $10 disc for free. just sayin'

I have received 11 of my 13 so far and they all look good. Have a list ready for the next 30% off sale.

Point to one website that does that. I know from experience that Blockbuster's doesn't do it. Gamestop's doesn't do it. Wal-Mart's doesn't do it. Target's doesn't do it. Amazon's doesn't do it. DeepDiscount's doesn't do it. Columbia House's doesn't do it. Nobody's does it. Nobody has programmed their website to discount things in groups like that. As I said, basically only when a glitch occurs, like the recent one at the WB Store online shop, where people were ordering very high-priced items as the freebie. The fine print ALWAYS says something like "the least expensive items will qualify as the free items."

IF items are somehow sequestered into categories, like a $5 category, and a $10 category, and the sale says something like "Buy 2 from one category, and get another one from the same category for free" then yeah, I could see it working like that online.

But the scenario you proposed initially absolutely does not happen.

I do ALL of my shopping online, since I don't live in the U.S. anymore. So I don't get to take advantage of fact that cashiers will do a common sense arrangement of items to give you the best discount when you're standing in the store. I always have to place separate orders to maximize my discounts.

Addendum about Columbia House: Their website actually is very glitchy, sometimes allowing things that should not be allowed. So, depending on that, yeah, sometimes you do get a higher-priced item for free. It seems to be based on the fact that some items have higher "regular prices" than CH prices, and some things are available as enrollments and some aren't, and some 2-disc items count as "sets," and some don't, etc..

Just got my first shipment from gohastings, and all three are messed up. I ordered the Criterion Collection of "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and received the single-disc paramount version. I ordered the 2-disc version of Coraline and received the 1-disc (without 3D classes). And my "Fast and Furious" (which explicity said "digital copy") did not include the digital copy (which I actually care about because I go on a lot of trips).

Got my final 7 in today. 3 were perfect, 1 was resurfaced and the other 3 had some light scratches (no worse than any used catalog title I've picked up at Blockbuster).

I guess one cracked disc out of 22 ordered isn't that terrible. Still waiting to hear back from their customer service about the return. Entire order delivered within five days, so that was nice.

For the Buy 2 get 1 for a $1 does it have to be all the same type- like lets say you buy two movies does the third have to be a movie? Or can you mix it up?

I haven't tried it this time, but the details of the sale do say they all have to be from the same category. It didn't work to mix movies/games/CDs during the last B2G1 sale.

I do apologize that you had that issue as this is not commonplace for our orders. You can call customer service at (877)-HASTINGS (427-8464) and they will help you out.

I've gotten 2 of the 7 items I ordered already.

Problem is the 2nd one that came today is the wrong DVD. Serves me right for ordering "Alone In The Dark". I was sent the Christian Slater flick as opposed to the 80's Slasher.

Just sent an email to Customer Service about it.

I was wondering why angelgaberiella has the same Hastings IP as you do, but was acting as a customer and not a company representative?

I called customer service about that and they said that PV is previously rented items. They said that all items are guarenteed though. So thats cool!

And I was also curious why Hastings doesn't offer to replace a damaged used item if another copy is available. From what I've read on here, your company only offers refunds and the customer has to place an entirely new order (and I assume full shipping fees) if we still want to order the item.

I agree, a replacement option would be preferential when another copy is available for order. Or a discount to cover the shipping fees when placing a new order would be good too. Glad to see goHastings.com interested in our forum feedback.

Well, the first of my two items ordered arrived today: "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" 3-disc. I chose "used", as many advised: excellent condition, all materials included, and I'm assuming that was the original seal wrapped around it. Very impressed! Can't wait to receive my other item.

hmm id like to know myself. mistakes, errors, even negligence i can work with. intentional deceit though is never necessary imho.

and ive received my order of 7 dvds. i have problems with 3:

1) human nature - snapper is warped from water-damage with brown stains and there is transparent tape on the back. disk is not bad with only light scratches.

2) dark waters (noshame) - received dark water, but the original hong kong release in region 3 (dunno if it actually plays r1 or r0 though, as some do i think?)

3) the order cremaster 3 - received the order, starring heath ledger. cremaster is oop, so im just guessing gohastings never had it? but they tried to fulfill my order anyway maybe?

kinda disappointed but meh, ill return the three above and in the future just order from them through amazon if i find the opportunity.

I finally heard back concerning my damaged item:

"Unfortunately we do not have a way to send out replacements at this time."

Yet the item in question is still available on their site. It shouldn't be hard to find a way to dispatch another copy if it's on hand. Ah, well - hopefully they refund the per item shipping charge.

Lame. Probably means I can't get a replacement for the wrong title being shipped to me. For a problem that is said to be uncommon, getting the wrong edition even the wrong title (such as myself) is feeling very common. Still waiting for CS to respond to my email as well.

So far 3 of my 7 items have come and I hope the next 4 come without a hitch.

I was going to order more from the Hasting current Sale, but many of titles have different editions and remakes. I just don't have the time to deal with getting the wrong item for an entire order.

According to what I was told, they will refund the price of item + shipping charge per item + partial cost of the shipping charge per order.

Zonks! Alot of hit or miss with these people I guess. All of the more obscure titles I received were pristine and good as new. My copy of the saint looked like someone was shooting it with a BB gun though.

The case has a bunch of tiny dents and puncture marks. Who would shoot poor Val?

Got the last 4 DVD's in my order.

Hell Comes To Frogtown was not the Anchor Bay version that was pictured but one released by a company I never heard of.

Everything else was in decent condition, though most of them have a musty/smoke odor to them.

Definitely will be the last time I order from Hastings.

got the seemingly standard email reply about returning the three dvds above. what i want to know is... why would they even consider doing this again in the future lol?

7 dvds shipped separately at about $1.80 each for usps shipping. bubble envelopes for each too. then, all these potential returns and the refund of shipping costs as well? im guessing they more or less paid money to get rid of a lot of dvds with this promotion.
