Nevermind. It came in today. It took a while to get here, but it was a great price. Inetvideo has a lot of great prices, it is the shipping that seems to hurt everything. $3 shipping for one item seems okay, but when you tack on $2.50 for each additional item (or $5 for each boxset) the price gets ridiculous. If I bought 10 boxsets, I would pay nearly $50 in shipping alone. There is no way it would cost near that to ship them (even if they come from Canada). I'm not going to argue that they need to do free shipping, either though. There are some great prices on inetvideo and if free shipping were to be offered, those prices would necessarily go up. I would love to see something like a reduction on the per item shipping charges. Something like $3 for one dvd, and $1 for each additional.

Hi chris_sc77,

The only option on the website right now is "Standard Shipping". Based on the size of your order, it will surely be shipped USPS express mail. Delivery is normally within 2 to 6 business days. Ask our customer service for the tracking number; support@inetvideo.com.

Right now, when you purchase items from us this is the shipping cost breakdown for U.S. buyers:

1st item $2.95
2nd item $2.50
3rd item $2.50

The "SHIP15" promo for 15% off the shipping runs whenever we are not running any other site wide promotion (such as free shipping).

As it stands for boxsets or packs right now, the cost is $4.95 per item.

The complete breakdown can be found in the "contact us" section on the website.

I often see prices from inetvideo on amazon.com that are cheaper than they are on intevideo's own site. I also noticed quite a few prices being raised right before this recent 25% off sale.

The members of dvdtalk -- especially the ones who regularly frequent the bargain threads -- have a keen eye for this sort of thing. They notice, and they share with others here.

You have your work cut out for you, to gain trust here.

A much more reasonable and true shipping cost would go like:

1st item $2.95
2nd item $2.50
3rd item and so on: 1$ ea.

I would love to spend more money on your site (and have put in quite a few orders when shipping is reasonable), but your day-to-day shipping price is outrageous and an absolute scam.

Happy Labor Day weekend!

Good selection of Blu's, but what I would like to see implemented is a mention of whether a particular Blu is the Canadian or US release. Even if you just listed the distributor where available, for instance, we would know that if it's Alliance, it is not the US.

Also, and I know this is probably an arduous task, but a little uniformity in titling would be great. I was looking for Veggie Tales DVDs for my little girl, and searching "Veggie Tales" vs. "VeggieTales" brought up completely different lists.

So my order came in today, and instead of the dragon dynasty Above the Law, they sent me the Steven Seagal version. I checked the email sent and the receipt that came with the order and they both say "Special Collector's Edition" and had Cory Yuen's name on it. I think that is going to be my last order with these guys. They have no attention to detail.

Thank you nick1091.

You are absolutely right. A lot of the times the titles derive directly from the Amazon.com listing of the movie, game, or music CD. This does bring up a lot of inconsistencies.

We will definitely address this matter in the weeks to come.

As for the studio or distributor of the our movies, I will have to look into this a bit more with our sales team to add this in the product info. on each item's listing page.

Reading about the contest on the homepage just caused me to do a double take as well. I'd be embarrassed if I had to promote that giveaway. Actually, I wouldn't do it. Might this be the "jump the shark" moment in the history of DVDTalk.

We run contests/promotions with a budget in mind.

This is the first of many we hope with DVD Talk.

We won't get everything right the first time (we wish we could), but your feedback and opinions will help us make future promotions much better.

What can we work on for next time?

Hmm...well next month is October which means it'll be time for the annual horror movie challenge here at DVDTalk. If you look in the main DVD Talk forum somewhere on page 1 or page 2 will be a thread with the title as follows:

100 Movies. 31 Days. The 5th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

The folks participating in that discussion are still nominating films and such, perhaps a future promotion can tie in with the discussion in that particular thread.

inetvideo, hopefully both you and the membership here benefit from your recently upgraded relationship with this site. My criticism was simply a result of feeling that somewhere along the line - you-INTERNETBRANDS-DVDTALK - it might have struck someone that a non-OAR DVD release as a giveaway might come across as sour to a significant portion of the membership at a movie-related website such as this.

Well I already own both versions of Dark City. As for Moreau, haha, I don't feel indebted to Frankenheimer's intended aspect ratio (who knows what he intended, period). The pan-and-scan makes it even more bizarre in a way. And now I'm in the midst of watching it with Rifftrax.
At least it's not a snap case.

Good selection of Blu's, but what I would like to see implemented is a mention of whether a particular Blu is the Canadian or US release. Even if you just listed the distributor where available, for instance, we would know that if it's Alliance, it is not the US.

Just casting my vote for this feature. I've seen quite a few BDs on iNetVideo that I wanted to pick up, but didn't because I was wary of receiving Canadian versions. Sometimes I can tell from the tiny French titling on the covers, but sometimes I can't. ;) Would be nice to know for sure what I was getting. Thanks for being open to feedback!

Oh great. I didn't even notice this thread until just today. I ordered some stuff, including a few Blu Rays, on the Labor Day free shipping sale. I had no idea that the Blu Rays I ordered could end up being Canadian versions which I assume have a different UPC and therefore I would be unable to trade it into FYE or resell it to anybody in the US for any worthwhile price. Did I miss this "Canadian versions may be substituted" in their fine print somewhere? I assumed everything would be Region 1 US. If not and they end up being Canadian ones, I hope that Inetvideo will pay for my return shipping costs and give me a refund on those, and I guess in the future I won't be able to buy Blu Rays from them any more until they accurately note everything.

BTW, since an Inetvideo employee is watching this thread, I'll also add my opinion that while I like some of Inetvideo's cheaper prices I refuse to order from any site that charges so much shipping per title... just as I refuse to order from Columbia House when I have to pay shipping. So I always wait for free shipping sales, and it often takes months before I have enough to meet the free shipping minimum.

I also make notes during non-free-shipping times of the prices of stuff I'm interested in, and if I notice the price goes up on any of those during the rare free shipping times (as Inetvideo has done many times) then I won't buy those ones just on principle. That's easy to do because I have plenty of other stuff to watch.

Hmm...well next month is October which means it'll be time for the annual horror movie challenge here at DVDTalk. If you look in the main DVD Talk forum somewhere on page 1 or page 2 will be a thread with the title as follows:

100 Movies. 31 Days. The 5th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)
...

non-OAR DVD release as a giveaway might come across as sour to a significant portion of the membership at a movie-related website such as this.

Hello Flixtime,

Thanks for the info. I will check out the 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 5th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge"

And if possible regarding OAR, we will try our best to offer rather than full screen.

Good day!

We've decided to drop the price on
The Forbidden Kingdom (2-Disc Special Edition) (Blu-ray)

I bought this from Inetvideo for $9.99 in May 2009 (during free shipping). Several times before and after I looked and again saw it for $9.99. I don't remember a single time this last year when I didn't see it for $9.99 (+ shipping), but then I don't look daily. The reason I'm posting is it's funny for me to read that you decided to drop the price to $9.99 on an item that AFAIK has been $9.99 this last year which means that you must've raised the price somewhere in between the times I looked. That again gets back to my whole issue with how Inetvideo plays games such as bumping up prices on some items before free shipping sales so that it ends up almost a wash. The only things I order during free shipping sales are the items that Inetvideo does not raise in price. Sometimes I'll tolerate a $1 increase in price, but not more. However, I can't get too upset about it because Amazon and DeepDiscount plays games with their prices too (though less so). It just means that I have to do a little more work keeping track of prices to avoid becoming a victim of the price game. Any store that thinks consumers don't notice or remember price games is very wrong. I don't expect any store to change as I've accepted that this is the way it is.

By the way, could someone please clarify under which circumstances a person could receive a Canadian DVD or Blu-Ray from Inetvideo? Could anything you order from their site end up being a Canadian version or is it only certain Blu-Rays or certain studios?

I need region 1 versions with valid US UPCs in case I ever want to trade it in. I don't believe any stores will accept trade-ins from foreign countries. The reason I ask is someone mentioned the possibility of Canadian versions in this thread but no details were provided.

I have indeed ordered Blu-Rays from Inet which were the Canadian versions. The Brave One & Awake both had French & English titling on the spine and dual language synopsis on the back.

plus s&h.

can you tell me why your shipping and handling is so ridiculous. I understand why on eBay, but on your site?

All your deals are tainted w/ ridiculous shipping and handling. It would be better to charge a bit more and do reasonable s&h charges so people don't feel they are being raped. It's almost impossible to assemble a decent order b/c of excessive s&h. On Amazon or other sites, people are a lot more likely to add an extra DVD or so to an order b/c the bulk of shipping has already been paid for, but on your site each additional DVD is 2.50 (or 1.00 after 5).

I appreciate your good prices on some stuff, but, like most here on DVD Talk, will wait for free shipping promos or just buy the really good deal w/o even considering anything else.

Regarding the Canadian Blu-Rays that Inetvideo sells without mentioning, all I can say is "no way, eh!" Seriously, though, since The Forbidden Kingdom Blu-Ray was just mentioned, I checked mine and sure enough there was French on the cover which I hadn't noticed before. I then searched on Wherehouse.com to find the US region 1 UPC which is definitely different than mine which says 057373201961.

I assume this means if I were ever to take this or any other Canadian Blu-Ray received from Inetvideo to trade in at FYE, they'd refuse to take it. Nice to know I'm buying stuff I can't trade in anywhere. And I have a thing against eBay so they aren't a possibility. I just double-checked Inetvideo's page and there's absolutely no mention of this being a Canadian release with a non-US UPC.

So, Inetvideo, until you properly label Canadian and US versions on your web site, I will no longer buy any more Blu-Rays from you unless the price is super low or I'm 100% sure I'll never want to trade it in for the rest of my life. Having a US version which is resellable in case I don't want it is worth something to me. Strange how I've never had to worry about Amazon or Buy.com sending me Canadian versions.

If Inetvideo starts sending Canadian SD DVDs, please post here so I'll know to avoid those too. Now I don't worry about Canadian versions for HD-DVDs because they are already so cheap and nobody will accept HD-DVDs for trade anyway, but the rest do matter. Inetvideo should really label their product's source properly.

^Yeah I have recieved about half of the DVD being Canadian DVDs. Most are no different than the US versions but some are. For Example I ordered Delitious from them thinking it would be the US release and it was the canadian version with ONLY a music video and trailer as fetures. This pisses me off cause the Regular US version has all these extras:

- Stalking Delirious Featurette
- Promotional Shorts
- Director Commentary
- Music Video "Shove It"
- Theatrical Trailer

SO i am pretty ticked but I dont know what else I can do.

I appreciate your good prices on some stuff, but, like most here on DVD Talk, will wait for free shipping promos or just buy the really good deal w/o even considering anything else.

Just be sure you make a note of the prices on stuff you want to buy well before the free shipping promo starts because what I've sometimes noticed is the price will jump up $1-$3 when free shipping begins. Since shipping is $2.50 each up to the first 5, there's not much savings during free shipping unless you buy titles that didn't jump up in price (not all of them do). Then the price goes back down (but not always to the same previous price) after free shipping. At least that's what I remember observing.

One can only speculate as to why, but I've always held the opinion that the places that do this type of gimmick are hoping that people don't have a memory of previous prices and will roughly pay the same net price during free shipping (i.e. $5.99) as they would without free shipping ($2.99 + $2.50) because "free shipping" makes them think they're getting an extra special deal. I think that Inetvideo should make a compromise... permanently raise their base prices slightly (perhaps $1 on everything) and reduce their shipping per item to $1. I'd rather be able to buy from them at any time than have to wait for free shipping and only buy certain items that didn't jump up in price.

So SD DVDs can be Canadian versions too? OK. Good to know. From now on I'm basically going to keep it in my mind when I order from Inetvideo I will be getting Canadian versions which as I said before is OK if they are super cheap or I know I will NEVER want to trade them in, but usually I don't know if I want to keep something forever, so knowing this will definitely reduce what I buy from them.

I don't mind the French on the cover, and as long as the content is the same (as it usually but not always is) on the discs that's not a problem, but Canadian versions are not tradable to FYE or any of your normal US retailers, so you're stuck with eBay (which I hate) or Craigslist. I'd much rather have a normal US release I could trade into FYE for a few bucks if I want to someday. If anyone knows of any local retailers who will accept trade-ins of Canadian, please let me know.

The few times I bought with them (w/ free shipping), the price did go up, but the price was still cheaper than if I had bought them w/ shipping.

The last couple of "free shipping deals" have rasied the min. to 65 instead of 50. Though the times I have bought from them I have bought way over 65, I passed b/c quite frankly I got most of what I wanted.

I actually can't see why they do this game w/ shipping. I bet it scares away a lot more customers than it attracts. Not many outside these bargain forums are going to hassle w/ trying to figure out the best deal. A normal customer that sees 13.00 shipping for 3 DVDs is going to run for the hills.

Yes... free shipping is USUALLY cheaper than not during free shipping, but if the price goes up the typical $1-$2 you're usually only saving $.50-$1.50 rather than $2.50 each.

The raised minimum for free shipping also presented a problem to me. I just barely made it to $55, and if it goes any higher in the future it's going to be even longer before I order. Frankly the only really good deals are the HD-DVDs, but I already bought the ones I want long ago so there's not enough left there to be filler material. There were 2 HD-DVDs that I wanted this time, but SURPRISE SURPRISE they were out of stock on those. Knowing I may get Canadian versions means that I probably won't buy $9.99 Blu-Rays from them any more, and they rarely have enough of the $1 or $3 specials to reach $55.

The reason I wasted my time posting so much in this thread is that (1) I'm stupid :-) and (2) I'm hoping since Inetvideo posts in here that they will read people's comments and reconsider their shipping/price strategy a bit. Like I said, how about raising prices slightly and implementing a more reasonable shipping fee structure?

I'm beginning to use the reputable third party resellers on Amazon more and more (especially those fulfilled by Amazon) who often have prices comparable to Inetvideo's specials and I have yet to get Canadian versions from them.

Anyway, I've blabbed enough here and I'll try to stop now. Hopefully Inetvideo will do the right thing and label their Canadian product and fix their shipping prices, but until that happens it looks like I'm not going to be using them very often.

Inetvideo.ca would help point out that they are a Canadian dealer (I thought they had locations in both countries... not exclusively Canada, so I considered them a US retailer too). It's not the fact they sell Canadian discs but that they don't label specific product as being from Canada or the US since you never know which version you'll get (without asking other purchasers first). And the second reason is the high shipping costs.

Sorry to hijack the thread. It seemed like the best place at the time. Yes, let's get back to the Inetvideo deals...

One was a List in Time set, the other were two volumes of the new Who. Not the season box sets, just individual discs. The other 23 things that came up had nothing to do with this search. Somebody, please tell me what Little House on the Prairie, Crash, and Creepshow have to do with "Doctor Who"?

The other thing I searched for was Torchwood. Nothing came up.

I then tried a third search, for Star Trek. Everybody carries it, right? Nope. Not these yahoos. There is exactly one match - Star Trek Nemesis.

Combine the insanely high shipping charges, with a complete lack of product, and I have to wonder, how do they stay in business?

Thank you to you and everyone for the feedback.

Thank you OmahaStar,

The search is very key-word sensitive. I have on many occasion searched for product knowing we do not have in stock to test what my results are.

The results you received, however not accurate they were to your search, it was based on the key words.

Torchwood - we do not carry unfortunately for the time being.

Star Trek - we only have Star Trek Nemesis

Our motto at iNetVideo.com is simply we want and love selling entertainment for LESS! Sometimes if the right price is not out there for us or we know we can't offer the lowest price then we may not carry the item right away.

Hello hindolio,

You hit the nail on the head. We are liquidators of entertainment. Our warehouse consists of over 50 000 unique titles. Don't even get me started on the actual quantity. :)

iNetVideo.com was once upon a time only known for rare hard to find or out of print movies.

Wow, so much bashing of inetvideo in here. Certain things certainly should be scrutinized but some of you are ruthless.

I have personally ordered from inetvideo twice and have no quarrels whatsoever with them. Why do you all act like they should be the next amazon? I thought it was pretty apparent that they are more of a closeout entertainment seller. The bottom line is just like MOST stores you have to wait for a good sale to really get any good prices. I don't just assume that every store I go into is automatically going to have the lowest price on the title I want and then bitch about it when they are too expensive. No, I go elsewhere or wait for a sale.

One disc came sealed but there was no disc inside; I emailed them and they sent me a new one, I didn't even have to send back the empty case, so that was pretty cool of them.

I don't know how much more unsold HD-DVD stock is out there, but I'll buy almost anything for under 5 bucks.

Hopefully you have plans to restock on some of those Warner HD-DVDs too. In your last "free shipping" sale, I had high hopes of putting in another order only to find nothing left. I always leave off a few titles so I have enough to buy in my next order not thinking these would ever go out of stock.

If you are going to have another "free shipping" sale, please make the purchase requirement be $50 because $65 is just way too high for most of us.

Dear iNetVideo, I received an e-mail today stating my order # and saying my order has shipped. It did not list any of the items I ordered. I received another e-mail tonight saying I did not pay for several of the items I ordered even though I did, and I can confirm as much through Paypal. What's going on? Is this just from my cart having them in it earlier or what? It seems like an odd e-mail to receive... almost like it just wants me to check-out with those items but I can't be sure...

Hi GenPion,

Sounds like a duplicate order was made in our checkout system. This happens if you go far enough into the checkout and then close the page.

Simply contact support@inetvideo.com to disable the payment reminders.

If you received a shipping confirmation e-mail then you order has surely been shipped out. You can ask for your order status at the same time.

Good day!

What the hell? Why does the checkout refuse to list anything but standard shipping? I'm so goddamn tired of media mail. It's one thing when I need a bunch of shit and there's a free shipping offer going, but I'm damn well not paying for it. First Class, Priority or GTFO.

What I mean is, when customers go through our checkout and for whatever reason close their browser and then restart their placing of an order at a later date our checkout believes that, that customer still intends on completing the open order.

We use the same checkout that caters to our eBay store (http://stores.shop.ebay.com/iNetVideo-com__W0QQ_armrsZ1), which also explains this, winning bidders or buy it now purchasers are given a specific amount of time to submit payment.

I took advantage of that free shipping deal and made a $100 order. I'm still trying to knock off the rest of my VHS collection. Thought I'd grab a bunch of out of print titles before the holiday deals everywhere else start. There are a ton of BDs I need, but I'm holding off in hopes of scoring some at DD's 25% sale and others on Amazon. I hate these titles that never seem to come down in price though. Jingle All the Way isn't worth $20 on DVD or BD. That's something I'll be checking the price on at DD come November.

because with your shipping cost no one wants to buy from you....

True. It's also a matter of speed though. Nobody likes media mail. There's no excuse for that insanely slow shit anymore. What is it, an extra few cents for first class? Media mail needs to go. I wish stores would stop supporting it. It's the cheapest, slowest shipping possible, people know it, and it pisses us off. OKAY?

Well, I sent them an e-mail over a week ago asking for the status on my order and never got a reply e-mail (and the site says it can take up to 48 hours)... where's good customer service when you need it? If iNetVideo doesn't like to hear DVDTalk readers give constructive criticism then that's their own company issue to deal with. My guess though is that Deep Discount is sponsoring right now because it's probably going to be a different sponsor every once in a while - most likely to coincide with different promotions each company is running. So I definitely wouldn't take it to mean iNetVideo has ditched this forum.

It's hard to imagine any company justifying those ridiculous shipping prices. The liason here probably is not in charge and is getting the bashing, but c'mon this is a bargain forum and any fool can see that those shipping prices are ridiculous for any website (outside of ebay).

Almost everyone here knows how much it is to ship media mail and to make money on the postage doesn't even make sense for a website, esp. when it pisses so many people off. They're not trying to circumvate fees, so why do they do this?

BTW, if I order more than one box set, I place TWO orders to make them pay for shpping twice. If they're gong to be unreasonable, so am I.

You misquoted their shipping prices, so he corrected you. Now you jump all over him because you don't like the prices. You already made that point.

Like any other retailer, you figure out the cost of what you want, including shipping. If it's not to your liking, you're free to buy it somewhere else.

Even with the high shipping prices, I've still found some great deals there.

What's not nice is the fact that the prices are now ridiculous when compared to the inetvideo.com site.

I guess this is the compromise to come up with a better shipping cost?

I'll agree that the shipping cost is much better, but when you're charging double and more for a lot of items, it's just redistributing the costs, which really doesn't help.

I'll agree that the shipping cost is much better, but when you're charging double and more for a lot of items, it's just redistributing the costs, which really doesn't help.

Hi andicus,

The way it works is not compared site to site. We have formulas in place for the different markets we are working around.

iNetVideo.com vs. competing American marketplaces
iNetVideo.ca vs. competing Canadian marketplaces

We realize the prices are not accurate .com vs. .ca but this is what we're working with.

Feel free to contact supportcanada@inetvideo.com in regards to pricing issues and they will surely accommodate you if the opportunity is there.
