is the SteelBook for Standard or just Blu? and what does DVD Combo pack mean?

Kory

It definitely looks like it's DVD dimensions, but I guess we won't know until Sunday for sure. As far as the combo pack, the initial release of the film will be in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, which comes in Blu-ray packaging, and a DVD/Blu-ray pack, which comes in DVD packaging and is designed to appeal to DVD buyers. As far as I know, the content is the same --- 2-disc Blu-ray set and 1 DVD. 7 or 8 weeks later, the 2-disc DVD-only version will be released.

so if i want the SteelBook (which is for standard DVD) and the movie in just standard DVD, i have to pre-order the DVD/Blu-ray combo in DVD package? and thus only want this...

wow thats an awful price for Brothers & sisters season 3 considering its on sale for $38.99 on best buys website...

Looks like I'll be picking up Desperate Housewives S5. I wonder what's up with the cover art.. It's a completely different image than the one on bb.com or any other retailer. I wonder if their getting an exclusive cover or that is old artwork or what.

You can pre-order it in either the DVD package or the Blu-ray package, but it looks like there is only one SteelBook. Personally, I prefer the Blu-ray art which is slightly different, and since I'm starting to build my Blu-ray collection, I'll probably choose that one.

However, the standard DVD set with no Blu-ray, which comes out November 24th instead of October 6th, has my favorite cover of them all.

Although honestly that huge gift set is AWESOME looking and I'd love to buy that if it was a much more reasonable price.

Looks like HEROES: SEASON 3 SD for me (I might want to crack SEASON 2 over the weekend!) and TWO & A HALF MEN: SEASON 6 for my Pops. Debating whether or not to get STATE OF PLAY on SD, I like Washington Conspiracy/Newspaper Thrillers. I try to reserve my BD purchases for effects heavy movies or TV shows; I don't think HEROES warrants a bump up to BD even though I really enjoy the show. (BTW-Saw Leonard Nimoy at the CON in San Diego and got a good snapshot. And then when I got back to my hotel, my brother and I were on the escalator w/ Zachary Quinto, drunk w/ two hot chicks. Two Spocks in one day!)

Updated with better quality scans, I notice on the new scans at the bottom it says:

Minimum $7.50 deposit required. DVD and Blu-ray discs not included with Steelbook case. So I wonder if you get this right with your pre-order?

The steelbook is cool, but the completist in me will probably avoid it because the other Disney films are in standard cases. Exactly why I sold off my first six Bond steelbooks. Still, it's nice to see, and the Gladiator/Braveheart deal is solid.

Looks like I'll be doing the pre-order on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Blu-Ray/DVD Combo pack to get the Steelbook, and Desperate Housewives: The Complete 5th Season. I don't know why Brothers and Sisters: The Complete Third Season is so expensive at Best Buy? I guess I'll just order it at Amazon.com for $38.49, along with Here's Lucy: The Complete First Season, since I can't find it in any stores around here, and get free shipping.

Holy smokes! It's getting a bit crazy with all these different versions/packages of movies being released. Personally I don't feel the need for steelbooks, but I'm usually a sucker for the most special/extra features. However, now the manufacturers have started catching on big time to all us suckers out there and if you include the steelbook version of Snow White then Disney will release 6!!! different packages come Oct. 6th. I know someone is crazy enough to want them all, but they better have deep pockets :)

If, for whatever reason they are not willing to give you the difference, then you could just repurchase both games on Sunday (for $30 less), and turn around and return them with your first receipt and get a full refund like that....

hmmm...same delema as last week but this time it's for season 6 of Two and a Half Men. if I buy it at least I'll be caught up in time for the seventh season in Sept. and I can re-sell it close to the same price after,...but if I rent it from Netflix than I woulden't be spending an extra $30 to see it b/c I already subscribe to Netflix.

It has been posted on other places that the Snow White SteelBook is free with the pre-order, and it is the size of a blu-ray steelbook. It comes with a slipcover, and it has slots for 3 discs. There is supposed to be a limit of 3 per customer, but we all know how that goes.

I'm sure the steelbook has UPC's for either the dvd or blu-ray releases, and you just take it up to the register to pre-order which ever one you want for $7.50, and then you walk out with the steelbook in hand. Some people have already picked it up. Hopefully, there will be plenty to go around since this is going to be up for pre-order up until the day before it is released.

Picked them up easily at my nearest store. I didn't find them in the blu ray section though, they were in the DVD section with the other Disney DVDs. I thought it was odd and wondered if people would pick this up thinking they were buying the DVD and going home only to find an empty steelbook. The checkout guy was on top of it though because he made sure a few times that 1) This was to preorder the movie and 2)if I was positive that I wanted the blu ray.

It's a very cool case and it is the same height as a standard blu case.

This is confusing to me. Are people saying that in order to get the Snow White BR steelbook that you have to buy an empty one now for $7.50 and that these are so scarce that they may already be gone a month before its release? Then you get a $7.50 credit off your preorder to compensate for the steelbook and pick up the actual DVD set and transfer it into the new case on release date?

The current BR preorder price is $25.99, correct? So how does one use the $10 off Disney Snow White upgrade coupon for the preorder under this scenario? Not only do I expect Best Buy will be unable to handle the $10 off coupon NOW, but even on release date if they were to re-ring the sale they probably couldn't handle the coupon. I say this because I remember last time I tried to use a Disney coupon on Bolt BR, and I had to go to a different store because the manager at the 1st store refused to take it. At the 2nd store the less snotty manager had to override it manually to make it work. Why should this time be any different? Thanks.

Then assuming once has to do a return/rebuy and use the $10 off coupon on release date, let me take a wild guess... the $7.50 steelbook credit will no longer apply (because of the never-ending "offers can't be combined" or "markdowns taken from regular prices" excuse Best Buy always uses on me) and to get that $7.50 credit back I'll have to forego the $10 off coupon or have an argument with a manager that I probably won't win.

Sadly I've been through this all before, and I know how Best Buy plays the game. It's very YMMV. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions how to get the BR steelbook for $15.99 after coupon with the least grief possible?

The pre-order card is actually on the back of the SteelBook.

For those of you that are having problems even finding these at the store, ask for a manager and have them check the SKU against their in-store stock on the computer. If their store shows # on-hand as more than a few copies, then chances are it may be somewhere in the backroom and haven't been put out yet. YMMV.

I went at lunch today and saw approximately 30 SW steelbooks in the new release section. You pay $7.50 now, take the SB home and bring the receipt to the Customer Service desk after the release date to pick up the actual release. You will then have $7.50 credited to your purchase and pay the balance. Hopefully, we'll be able to use the $10 off coupon at that time.

The BR/DVD combo has 2 BR 1DVD (which is first disc of 2D regular version)
The DVD/BR combo has 2 BR 1DVD (which is first disc of 2D regular version)

Is this officially the way it is -- or is the DVD/BR combo 2 DVD / 1BR (which makes more sense to me)

I really like the DVD/BR combo cover art the best, but for consistency sake, I got the BR/DVD. Probably won't even buy the Disc there since I'm sure there will be grief trying to use that $10 coupon. But at least I got the Steelbook.

I went and got Heroes at Best Buy today...not too impressed by the book. I didn't really want it in the first place (I just wanted to get the Supernatural lenticular cover), but I'm keeping it on a shelf, you know, just in case. Honestly though, it seemed kind of pointless to me.

On the other hand, Best Buy's other exclusives are well worth it. The Supernatural lenticular cover looks really neat to be honest; I'm glad I got that one. And BB does indeed have exclusive packaging for Desperate Housewives - and it is MUCH better than the actual packaging. I got a review copy of DHW's fifth season from ABC, and while the inside packaging and back cover are actually really beautiful (the best of the sets to date), the cover and spine are too similar to season one's art - I've actually gotten them confused when I put them on the shelf because they are both plain white. BB's exclusive, however, has a black spine and much better cover art (the one seen in the ad), so it works much better all around.

Since the Snow White steelbook supply was rapidly dwindling (single digits at both nearby stores today), I picked one up. As I expected, nobody there had the slightest clue how the Disney coupon would come into play. All I know is that it didn't scan now... probably because the UPC is for the steelbook rather than the not-yet-released BR set. So I was told when it came out that I *SHOULD* be able to do a return/rebuy and apply the $10 off coupon then while still getting the steelbook for free. I wrote down the employees' names... not that that would make much difference if I have problems with the coupon when the time comes.

I asked where it says I locked in the $25.99 BR preorder price since it only shows $7.50 on the receipt (they said I couldn't pay the full amount now), and as before the 2 employees didn't know. Too bad BBY doesn't inform their employees via memo about the details of promos like this.

My BR Combo Pack preorder shows SKU 9425721 and says "DVD - Pre Sell Snow White". No mention of Blu-Ray on the receipt.

Could anyone verify that 9425721 is the correct SKU for the Blu-Ray?

Since the Snow White steelbook supply was rapidly dwindling (single digits at both nearby stores today), I picked one up. As I expected, nobody there had the slightest clue how the Disney coupon would come into play. All I know is that it didn't scan now... probably because the UPC is for the steelbook rather than the not-yet-released BR set. So I was told when it came out that I *SHOULD* be able to do a return/rebuy and apply the $10 off coupon then while still getting the steelbook for free. I wrote down the employees' names... not that that would make much difference if I have problems with the coupon when the time comes.

Unless your BB employees are complete assholes, at pick up the BR should be 25.99 and the 7.50 deposit will be subtracted for a balance of 18.49 + tax. From that total amount the $10 coupon should be deducted (coupon is supposed to be taken off after the tax on the whole amount.

That is IF they will take the coupon. I had that whole horrible experience with the $10.00 Off Bolt Blu-Ray, and was told they wouldn't accept a copy (which it wasn't a copy). Because the coupon wouldn't scan, Best Buy was adamant that they would not take it. I ended up going across the street to Super Target, where the coupon scanned with no problem. I really hope Best Buy will have their act together when this release rolls around.

If not, just get your $7.50 back and go buy it somewhere else when it releases. You didn't pay $7.50 for the steelbook - the steelbook is free. You put money down on a pre-order. You can take your receipt and get that refunded right now. You'd be cancelling the pre-order, not returning the steelbook. I suppose they could use some discretion and give you a hard time - I've cancelled a couple of pre-orders that came with pre-order bonuses and they've never said anything, though.

I guess Disney has done a poor job explaining this release to the general public, as I keep seeing people confused about them....

The ONLY differences between the two releases on 10/6 is the size of the case and the corresponding cover art....both releases on 10/6 will contain TWO Blu-ray Discs (one for the movie, one for special features) and ONE DVD (for the movie)....the content and included type of discs are the same, you can just choose if you'd rather have a Blu-ray style/size case, or a DVD style/size case....

IF you want the special features (aka the second disc) on DVD, then you have to wait SEVEN weeks later when they will be releasing a two-disc DVD edition that does not contain any Blu-ray Discs....

Yeah I agree. I'm glad BB had a different cover. Much better than the white one. IMO
This is the first set that doesn't have an insert though. Instead the episodes were printed on the box. Kinda funny how it has a flap but it's just used for the ads.. Unless you put the exclusive disc in there. Guess they're getting cheap. :p

Yes, I like the Best Buy Exclusive cover much better than the regular edition! I noticed that they actually had both versions, but, only the the Exclusive version was packaged with the Bonus Disc on the back of the set. By the way, I was able to just tell them that Target had Brothers and Sisters: The Complete Third Season for $37.99, and they price matched it, without an ad! Of course, I get home to find that there is a coupon for $10.00 Off all of these new TV on DVD releases. Oh, well. I will use one of them for the upcoming release of Grey's Anatomy: The Complete Fifth Season.

Score! I just came back from Brooklyn, NY Best Buy and I found LAST 3 Steel Books. I confess, I grabbed them all. They were on the wall with a giant poster, explaining the whole pre-order thing.

Funny thing is that the cashier had to explain me that there are no movies in steel book cases. :P

Also, nobody mentioned 9.99 Blu Ray Sale. They had tons of Lionsgate titles. I bought

The Ninth Gate, Replicant, See No Evil, SAW and SAW II. First 3 titles were never that low before.

One thing I found a bit weird about the steelbook is that there is no title on the spine of the steelbook (only on the slipcase). Not a big deal I guess, but still seemed a bit strange. I'm just hoping that the Blu Ray includes a slipcover that fits around the steelbook (it looks like it does) as I prefer that artwork to the steelbook slipcover.

Disney has a history of no titles on SteelBook spines.

Uhh...no, why the heck would BB return your $7.50 and not want the steelbook back. Your receiving the steelbook is contingent on agreeing to put down a deposit to pre-order the Snow White Blu Ray, so if they give you your deposit back, you are no longer pre-ordering the blu...so no steelbook for you.

Just think it through, in your world I could pick up 10 steelbooks, get my money back, and still be allowed to flip them on eBay for an unholy fortune...in essence getting something for nothing. There is no way that BB is not aware that folks would try to get away with the above scenario if they were dumb enough to let them.

Perhaps, but I'm not counting on it. I expect a lot of horror stories and pissed off people trying to apply that coupon w/ this offer.

Yes, unless.

I was told that the 30-day return limit would start from the day you purchased the pre-order and not the day that the pre-order was released.

Thank you. I have asked this question a couple of times and got different answers from different people on this forum.
