Huge Opening Weekend; Nearly Empty Theater

This thread is inspired by the one about private screenings. However, instead of being about private screenings, this is about times when you have gone to a movie that did huge opening weekend numbers but for some reason the theater where you attended a screening had a small audience. I will say that I do not mean a movie that opened huge and then three weeks later you went to see it after the crowds died down, I mean one that you went to on its opening day/weekend but had a small audience in attendance.

Daytona Beach has a smaller 10 screen theater on the beach where I have always been able to get tickets to a blockbuster on opening weekend, and I mean about ten to fifteen minutes before it starts.

Some that spring to mind:

Iron Man-maybe 26 people max, opened close to $100 million

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince- saw it the first Friday, theater was probably half full.

Quantum of Solace- half full theater at a 5:00 PM showing opening day.

I will say that I don't think this has as much to do with a movie's popularity as much as the fact that blockbusters seem to get a minimum of two screens no matter how small the theater, so if you want to go, you can.

You love telling that BJ story in these threads.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Sunday night, my friend and I were the only two in the theater.

When my buddy and I went to see Terminator 4 opening night the theater was about 45% full, maybe less. And this was at the Irvine Spectrum, a veritable magnet for every man/woman/child looking to see a movie on the weekend.

The theater I go to will usually put a big blockbuster on at least 4 screens so yeah, they're never full when you have a new show starting every 30 minutes.
