So Amazon's got The Office Season 5 @ 37% off, Lost Season 5 @ 35% off, and 30 Rock Season 3 @ 35% off. I was wondering if discounts on these drop even more before release or even at or right after release? Or is it better to pre-order now? (Deep Discount seems to be around the same % off, fyi...)

It's been awhile since I've actually ordered stuff, so I wasn't sure...

Thanks for the help!

If you pre-order and the item drops more between now and when it ships you will get the lower price.

I know "The Office" is usually released at a $29.99 price point. Amazon has a pre-order price guarantee, but if they ship before the price drops on their site or something, you're screwed. I would hold off if I were you.

I would wait to see what BB or Target offer with the new seasons...I got all three (or two?) boxes from BB...and I'm hoping they continue doing them for this season; I would even buy the special edition if it didn't come in blu-ray, since I don't think it would be a big deal.

Again, wait for release date, and if you are not a sucker for 'exclusives' like me, wait one or two more weeks.

If you can wait a really long time, the office is almost surely going to be some store's Black Friday deal.

Thanks for the replies, everyone!

Right, I saw that on their site. But what I don't know is if prices tend to drop more when it's actually released as compared to when it's a pre-order. Logic would dictate that it would be cheaper to pre-order, but I *think* that's no always the case...?

The Office "sale" price point is $10 more I think because there are more episodes on this season, so the full retail cost is actually $10 more than past years (look at the full retail prices of past seasons). So does Amazon usually have an even higher discount at release (or shortly after) as compared to pre-order?

What do you mean by "boxes" and that you hope they continue them for this season? (And, nope, I've never been one to care about exclusives. :) )

I don't think I can wait that long! :)

There's no details yet, but from what I can make out in the picture, it looks like a Schrute Beet Farms themed gift set.

If it drops any time up to and including release day, Amazon will refund you the diffrence, even if they've already charged you. You're only screwed if it drops after release day.

See the link I posted previously. Last years Best Buy Box set included a Michael Scott "Fun Run" T-shirt, wristband, and water bottle. The year before there was a Dundie award, and a mini Dwight Bobble head.

Hope they do a BD set otherwise I'll have to buy the DVD Giftset, sell the DVD, and buy the BD. I really love the little sets BB carries.

Do dvds usually drop in price even more after the release day on Amazon?

And do you think that cool BB set for The Office Season 5 will be the same price as Amazon's regular version (at the discounted price, 37% off approx.)? Have they been in years past?

Thanks!

Not usually but anything is possible. The point of my post was just to say that if you pre-order, you're covered for any price drops up to and including release day, but nothing after that is guaranteed.

I don't think the set will be the same price as the regular version, and it hasn't been in the past. You can buy just the DVD's at Best Buy, but the Gift Set is a little extra. The regular version (just the DVD's, without the extra stuff) will likely be comparable (currently listed at 39.99 on Best Buy's site). I wouldn't be shocked if the prices at both stores dropped before release day, and I would expect the price on release day to be pretty close, for just the DVD's. The gift set will be 5-10 bucks more than that though. I usually get the gift set though, because so far, the items included have been cool enough that I thought it was worth a little extra.

I usually buy stock at 40% off... It's a gamble, for sure. But I'm holding out for a better price...

I just checked 30 rock and it is still at $33 with retail price of $50, where does amazon get the retail price from? No one will be selling 30 rock for more than $40 let alone $50

The retail price (MSRP) is set by the studios.

All this prognostication is giving me a headache. Prices ALWAYS fluctuate, but nobody can predict when or how much. Just buy at whatever price you are comfortable with.

In my experience the "Pre-Release" price at amazon typically will be the best price they'll have for ~6 months. After that time frame it all depends on studio promotions and/or how slowly the product is selling. It's a crap shoot. Even if DD has a similar/identical price pre-release there's no guarantee it'll stay the same after release. It *usually* does and will almost always be less expensive there during one of the bi-annual % off sales, but again, no real guarantee. With the recent DD 25% off sale amazon matched quite a few DD prices and was actually a bit less expensive (usually $1 or less) than the DD price with the % off on a few titles I checked.

Short version... Probably, but I've gotten to where I wait 6 months to a year and always get a better price than the pre-order price.

As far as BB... from what I've seen their price is typically higher, especially for the BB exclusive stuff, but I don't really track it very well as there is no store close enough for me to drive to and shipping almost always kills the deal.

Thanks for the posts. I think I'll just pre-order! :)

Speaking of Lost... Is the only Bonus deal going to be the one with the VHS thing for 7x.xx?

Yeah, I'm looking for those on Blu-Ray. Hopefully there will be some decent deals. I don't like the way the MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Ridiculous Pricing) is going lately on BD.. It seems to be creeping up!
