Was in a FYE earlier tonight. On the TV show table were all the usual sets. One caught my eye, however. Fraggle Rock: The Complete Series with a sale sticker on it for $49.99. I didn't think too much of it since they had seasons 1-3 on that same table for $9.99 (after rebate I think). Checked just now and it appears the complete series is well over $100 at most online retailers. DD has it cheapest at $96.xx.
Might head that way tomorrow and snag it. With the backstage pass, it would come out even cheaper.

This received the DVD Talk Collector Series (http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/35420/fraggle-rock-the-complete-series-collection/) rating here. No mention of the problems with the packaging.
However, as you mentioned, if you look at the reviews posted on Amazon.com, they aren't very flattering. One because of the design of the set and also because of the frustration with the individual season sets not being continued (though I believe that's changed).

It was just announced that the series is getting re-released in a different package. Might be safer to go with this once it's released but that could also depend on what retail proce it goes for.
Thanks for the link/article, ericmylad. That may convince me to hold off. I'd love to revisit this show since I recall watching it many years ago, but I'm in no hurry. With the article mentioning a lower MSRP, I bet it wouldn't be too long before we'd see it reach a sale price of below $50.

Ditto. I am SOOOO glad I didn't buy the complete set. I've had the first 3 seasons for ages, and was about to give up hope that they would release the 4th season by itself. Now I can finally wait and get my 4th season. I don't need to re-buy what I already own. YAY!!!

as an FYI I was able to contact customer serivce at Lions Gate back in March and able to get all the scratched discs replaced without any trouble for those on the fence.

Yep. All you need to do if keep your receipt and Lions Gate will send you replacement discs. So $49.95 sounds worth it to me! I'll just do what I do with other poorly designed sets... Put the discs in thin cases next to the original packaging.

I ordered it last night on the website for 49.99 with the 10 dollar off code. Came to 39.99 with free shipping! BUT! Now they claim it suddenly went out of stock!
