Smallville Help - Cheapest place to buy, etc.

Hey guys~

I just found seasons 1 thru 4 of Smallville on DVD - at a nearby Garage Sale for $2.50 a season!!!!!

I've never watched an episode in my life - but my Girlfriend and I may start to now.

What I would like to know, is if any of you have seen the show - do you truly recommend it?

And also, where would be the cheapest place to buy the other seasons , 5-8?

Thanks As Always

Smallville is a guilty pleasure. 50% of its fanbase love it, and the other 50% pretend they hate it, reckon it should have finished years ago-but still secretly watch every episode.
These days the dvd sets when discounted go for around $17-19.99 a season online. $14.99 on the odd occassion. Maybe cheaper at BM stores when discounted.
Ebay maybe the best place to buy them ultra cheap.
Season 8 should be discounted within a month or so of release and be $20-30.

I jumped in late and watched 1-5 on DVD and everyone here offered one single piece of advice I wish I had taken, skip season 4. Watch the premier and the finale and pretend that was the entire season.

I'm part of the 50% that love the show, but season 4 was just too much to take. Some of the worst television to grace the small screen.

^ I've never watched the show. I picked up season 4 as a blind buy (because it was from Big Lots). Guess I should look to unload it, eh?

My family happens to be in the 50% that really like the show... Even season 4...

Another fan of the show here, I'm up to Season 6. I don't remember anything bad about Season 4.

The show has had it's hiccups{Season 8 finale anyone?}, but I love it. And for 2.50 a season, you're getting a bargin.

Season 8, I thought was relatively good, but the finale was just awful. How the wheels so completely fell off still has me rather baffled.

All the seasons routinely show up for $5-15 per season, even the blu-ray versions.

Re: Smallville Help - Cheapest place to buy, etc.

I wouldn't have offered that advice. Season 4 is where the show visibly declines, but it's still leagues better than 5, 6, 7, or 8.

Season 5 is where everything went to shit.

I wouldn't recommend this show to anyone who would be in "critic mode" while watching; the show won't hold up against any scrutiny. We're talking about some of the laziest writing to ever grace the small-screen.

There's a lot of "gracing the small screen" in this thread.

As for the OP's question, I have picked up all the seasons for $15 or less, delivered, from Black Friday deals online over the past few years. Check the Amazon Marketplace for other deals. I got a Blu-ray season 7 from there not too long ago from a deal posted in this forum (they later showed up at Big Lots for less, I think).

Re: Smallville Help - Cheapest place to buy, etc.

I caught the first couple of seasons on DVD, then watched the rest as they aired. I enjoy the show, even though it has some issues. But every show has issues. It is tough because they are telling a story that has already been told, plus they are trying to lead up to a story that the vast majority of watchers already know. Kinda ties their hands at times, and makes them take some liberties.

I'd watch the ads, they usually go for 15-20 a few times a year at Bestbuy or Target.

MINOR SEASON 4 SPOILERS

Spoiler:
I just finished Season 4, I liked the Chloe subplot without clark knowing. The stones bugged me, but i really hated them when they spent whole episodes dealing with them, specifically the China one

Some reason you didn't use the spoiler tag?

Double Amen. I'd also go as far to say use the tag, AND type the word spoiler in front of the spoiler as well, since spoiler tags don't work in email notifications.

But I know most people won't remember/trouble themselves that much.

Re: Smallville Help - Cheapest place to buy, etc.

They have a pre-release of Season 6 sale going on right now at amazon.com...all of the Smallville seasons are on sale!

If you're truly adventurous you could try eBay...sometimes you can get a great deal, but make sure it's the right format for your region and it's not a knockoff...

Maybe it's because people were just coming off season 5, but it seemed that most agreed about 4 and that 5 was solid until the 100th episode.

And yes, the season 8 finale was horse shit compared to other finales/premiers. Worst fucking cock-tease this side of Heroes.

I actually don't mind Season 4, and I think Season 5 is one of the better ones{except for the episode Lana becomes a vampire. Worse episode of the entire series}.

Re: Smallville Help - Cheapest place to buy, etc.

I enjoy the show but am glad I got caught up by renting instead of buying the season sets. Truly they have no replay value as far as I'm concerned.

And no one is lying about S4 onward. The first 3 seasons were really decent, but then it just got silly/stupid. By far the worst is Pete and Stride gum "episode" that was more of a commercial for the gum than an episode (S17, Ep 13).
