Psych takes on The Mentalist

Didn't see a weekly thread of Psych, but not sure enough people watch it to warrant it...

anyway, in tonight's episode, they took a jab at The Mentalist. Pretty funny.

They've been doing it in the previews of the new season as well.

Re: Psych takes on The Mentalist

What kind of ratings does Psych get? My wife and I both love this show and I just kind of thought it would be a fairly popular one. But weekly threads would only last 7 or 8 at a time due to the shortened season and split up to summer and winter.

Haven't seen the premier yet but I've been jonesing for a fix - been rewatching the first 3 seasons the last couple weeks.

Man, I thought Val Kilmer turned into a balloon...

but I could'nt believe that was Cary Elwes in this. I know he's older and all but c'mon.

Oh, and I loved the way they shook up the formula for the premiere. It really kept it fresh for the new season and having Sean & Julia face their "intimacy" issue to try to get it out of the way felt right for this episode.

Re: Psych takes on The Mentalist

Psych is my favorite USA show. I'm already a bit tired of the girlfriend angle because it may start to interfere with the Shawn/Gus relationship (which is hilarious to me). They got in a fight about it before this episode ended. A clever way to work around it (which they've already gotten off to a great start doing) is to always make her absent, and there's always some kind of reason why she can't be there. I'm just not a fan of starting a show one way and then out of the blue they tack on some love interest because producers feel the need to freshen up the show.

They have to have Sean with a gf now that Juliet is interested. Once she finds someone something will happen and Sean will be free again.

Psych's a good show. I enjoy it. But I'm sick of Lasseter alway's thinking Shawn is wrong even after 4 years of a perfect record. It just irks me.

I love Psych but this premiere was kind of lackluster IMO. I appreciated the Vancouver love but it didn't have the same feel to it... not as much awesome dialogue and something just felt kind of off... I'm sure the rest of the season will be up to par but I just wasn't feeling last nights episode.

Yeah, they've definitely got to change that. Lighten him up and find other ways to add some "conflict".

I felt that way about the Season 3 premier.

Have you seen Val Kilmer over the past few years? He has gotten really heavy.

I really like the way they changed the date of the "young shawn" sequence. They don't have to worry to much about the kid aging.

Good point about Lassiter too. I hadn't actually thought of that before.

Re: Psych takes on The Mentalist

I've always perceived Lassiter's attitude towards Shawn and Gus to be pure jealousy because they sweep in and solve many of his cases.

I could have sworn I noticed a slight change about a year ago, and thought that he was about to lighten up and work with the guys instead of against them. But then he pretty much got written to be a jerk again.

Re: Psych takes on The Mentalist

They made a Mentalist reference before, didn't they? Not quite as "Yeah, they ripped us off, hard." but in the same realm.

The episode was okay, I agree it felt a little "off" - but the series is littered with such episodes.

Yea I did too actually. It bugs me too that Lassie keeps doubting him, I mean I can understand hating him, but if hes solving shit believe him a bit. It was great seeing Elwes. As long as he NEVER acts like he did in Liar Liar again I dig him.

I think the captain (who has been overdone the last 2 seasons) annoys me the most.

Ive never seen the Mentalist, but thats because I hate the main actor and think hes shit

Re: Psych takes on The Mentalist

I liked it but I hope that there is better to come. I wasn't sure whether or not that was Elwes, but I guess that it was. I figured the insurance fraud thing out early though (basically once the first guy said that he had sold the missing painting two weeks prior).

Does anyone know if Roday and Lawson are still together in real life?

I thought he was the most annoying part of the short-lived show Smith, and in every Mentalist promo I've seen I feel he comes off as a pompous know-it-all ass.

I noticed that he didn't grow much either, and I wonder if young Gus has outgrown him? I didn't see him in the flashback, but it could've been due to the situation taking place at the start. I also noticed that they've added him to the guest star credits at the start of the show instead of at the end. He's as much a part of the show as the others IMO.
